It all changed when I defected to the dark side of institutional employment and discovered email overload.

I’m only there for part of my week, but now, I hate email. I hate nearly everything about institutional email. But naturally, email overload is not the technology’s fault: it’s the users.

People in institutions (what a nice general term for those not flying solo!) think email equals communication and lots of communication makes them efficient and well understood.

Not true.

We posted it because its very interesting and we feel that the Iranian people have been misrepresented in the media. Historically, before every war politicians and the media paint the enemy as very differenent from ourselves. Its easier to hate or fear when you dont understand or relate to your enemy.

Why is DRM so contentious? Surely it's designed to protect the rights of artists

The problem is DRM doesn't affect the pirates, who upload and download DRM-free files often ripped directly from CD. Instead, it affects legitimate buyers

I think most people who know anything about DRM hate it. They hate dealing with the limitations of the technology, both intentionally built-in or as a direct result of poor technical planning/implementation. Unlike a good protection scheme which is invisible to the end user, DRM is too limiting to the average customer, and does nothing to stop hardcore music pirates. Plus, when a store goes down and its licenses stop renewing, the customer is the real loser. Sure you can burn your songs to a CD and re-rip them (or do it virtually), but the process is time-consuming and you lose audio fidelity. Another option is to free your purchased music using tools like FairUse4WM (above) or Hymn, or just buy DRM-free in the first place.

Prayer rally for victims

ILORIN, Nigeria, August 14 (Compass Direct News) – Blaming the death of their leader on Christian prayers, an Islamist group that launched a hate campaign in response to an evangelistic event in 2004 is reportedly attacking Christians in this Kwara state capital with renewed virulence, area Christians said.

At least three Christians have died and several others have been injured in attacks with machetes and other weapons since June, clergymen said. They said the attacks began after the death in May of Dr. Ali Olukade, head of a local group of Islamists called Tibliq, possibly patterned after the worldwide Tablighi Jamaat missionary movement.

Perhaps one of the most interesting words in the English language today is the word "fuck." Out of all the English words that begin with the letter "F", fuck is the only word that is referred to as the "F" word. It's the one magical word that just by its sound can describe pain, pleasure, hate and love.

Fuck, as most words in the English language, is derived from German, the word 'flicken' which means "to strike." In English, fuck falls into many grammatical categories. As a transital verb for instance, "John fucked Shirley." As an intransitive verb, "Shirley fucks."

Its meaning's not always sexual, it can be used as an adjective such as "John's doing all the fucking work." As part of an adverb, "Shirley talks too fucking much." As an adverb enhancing an adjective, "Shirley is fucking beautiful." As a noun, "I don't give a fuck." As part of a word, "Abso-fucking-lutely" or "In-fucking-credible." Why We Want Our Kids Back Too

I grew up in the inner cities of Chicago—places where buses hate to stop, and cabs hate to come. My parents worked hard. Most of our neighbors worked hard. Some people tried. Some people just gave up. Others gave up while they tried and vice versa.
When there was violence, we cried and tried to stop it. When there was death we cried, wondered why and tried to deal with it. But we had to do these things alone.
There were no crush of grief counselors when our 11 year olds got shot by strays or on purpose. There were no pundits filling column space and air time when our girls got raped or became pregnant too soon. And when our children came up missing… when our children came up missing…
When our children came up missing there was silence. Silence and indifference. There still is.
I saw enough missing and dead black kids coming up that it taught me something about black folks, or at least the way black folks are perceived:
Black children are disposable expectations.

Buchenwald liberator, American hero dies at 83

James Hoyt delivered mail in rural Iowa for more than 30 years. Yet Hoyt had long kept a secret from most of those who knew him best: He was one of the four U.S. soldiers to first see Germany's Buchenwald concentration camp.

Honestly, after years of hearing that if you don't support the Bush military policy, you don't support the troops, you have to wonder what the neo-cons will do now. Today, a study by the Center for Responsive Politics reported that members of the military are giving more donations to Senator Obama than Senator McCain, and when you just examine those troops who are deployed, Obama attracts more donations by a 6 to 1 factor.

Troops, of course, aren't much different than most Americans, who overwhelmingly oppose the Bush military policy that John McCain would continue (the latest AP-Ipsos poll had 62 percent disapproving of the Bush policy). It's just that troops have a lot more personal experience on this particular issue. We know that those who served believe Iraq has overstreched the military, and for years that those who have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan are solidly against the current policy.

OCALA – A 50-year-old woman was found guilty of attempted second-degree murder and other charges Tuesday for trying to run over her ex-husband with her car as he sat on the porch of a mobile home, drinking beer with a friend.

Debra R. Rowley was convicted of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief for ramming her 1998 Nissan C-39 across the porch of a mobile home on Memorial Day 2007 at Silver Springs RV Park.

“I tried to kill him,” she told sheriff’s Deputy Joshua O’Carroll. When asked why, she replied, “Because I hate him,” the deputy testified Tuesday.

David Rowley testified in Circuit judge David Eddy’s courtroom that his ex-wife was “mad and upset” about seeing him sing a karaoke duet with another woman at a party in the park earlier in the day.

“She’s always been a little bit jealous,” he told the six jurors. “She just flipped out when I was singing with the other lady.”

Zondervan says that even if Fowler's claim is credible, he's suing the wrong party. A company spokesman told WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids that Zondervan doesn't translate the Bible or own the copyright for any of the translations but relies, instead, on the "scholarly judgment of credible translation committees."

U.S. District Judge Julian Abele Cook Jr. refused Monday to appoint an attorney to represent Fowler in the Thomas Nelson case, saying the court "has some very genuine concerns about the nature and efficacy of these claims."

Fowler, who is representing himself in both lawsuits, says in his complaint against Zondervan that the publisher intended to design a religious, sacred document to reflect an individual opinion or a group's conclusion to cause "me or anyone who is a homosexual to endure verbal abuse, discrimination, episodes of hate, and physical violence ... including murder."

Racist organizations are backing Obama. Why? Because some prominent white supremacists feel a Barack Obama presidency could spring board dormant racist groups back into action.

It is estimated that some 200,000 people are currently active in white supremacy groups, a relatively minimal number. And a number that's not satisfactory among hate groups.

Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke is among those who feel Obama, if elected president, could act as a "visual aid" for hate groups. He said he would be proof that whites have lost control of America.
