said the CIA not only relied on confessions gleaned through extreme torture, it sent terror war suspects to Uzbekistan as part of its extraordinary rendition program.

"I'm talking of people having their children tortured in front of them until they sign a confession. I'm talking of people being boiled alive. And the intelligence from these torture sessions was being received by the CIA, and was being passed on."

Basically there are two types of propane heaters: ventless propane heaters and vented propane heaters. The ventless propane heaters are small heaters that do not require an external system. On the other hand, unvented propane heaters draw air from the outside to the sealed combustion chamber and vents the exhaust gas to the outside; hence the need for an external system. Unvented heaters should not be used in areas that are confined such as bedrooms and bathrooms. Unvented heaters perform at low capacity and there is a danger of flue gasses building up and with this, the danger of fire. Unvented heaters are much more effective in large vented room.

GM grass trial aims to cut cows' gas

A plan to grow paddocks of genetically modified grass created to cut the greenhouse gases produced by cows is in the pipeline at Crown-owned company AgResearch.

The proposal has already provoked criticism from anti-GM groups, who say outdoor trials could jeopardise New Zealand's reputation as a GM-free dairy exporter.

If successful, the grass could take a slice off New Zealand's methane and nitrous oxide emissions, which make up about half the country's emissions under internationally agreed standards.

GM-free campaigner Claire Bleakley said the trials would divert money from work being done using non-GM legumes and grasses to cut greenhouse gases and increase productivity in animals.

She said the Government should keep funding that research to give farmers the option of staying GM-free.

Methane and nitrous oxide are both waste products produced by grazing animals.

Giant galaxy graveyard grows

Galaxies that group together tend to switch off each others’ star formation, “bringing a flourishing galaxy into a dead one,”

Astronomers think that grouped galaxies speed up, stripping away their neighbors’ hot gas, the raw material for forming stars. When galaxies cluster, “there is always a threshold when groups go from an encouraging environment to a suffocating environment,” Finoguenov says.

Tanaka’s team identified tens of clumps of galaxies surrounding CL0016+16, some of which are up to a thousand times more massive than the Milky Way.

And most of those galaxies are either dead or dying, meaning they’re not making new stars. The tremendous gravitational pull of the central cluster is drawing in other galaxies, which will eventually cease star formation in the growing galactic graveyard.
