Religious artist Jon McNaughton painted the piece "One Nation Under God" as a statement on the presumed religious foundation of our country:

He's got many basic facts wrong. For starters "under God" wasn't a part of the Pledge until it was added by the Knights of Columbus in 1951. The founding fathers were "were passionately religious and saw the hand of God all around them" in that many were science-friendly Deists whose minimalist view of a Creator accepted "God did it" as a stopgap explanation science filled in the gaps with more credible explanations. clipper's remarks: It’s a gentle, non-punitive way of dealing with a very serious problem.

My father-in-law had a condition that deteriorated his brain. Doctors refused to say it was Alzheimer’s, at first they thought it was Parkinson’s but later ruled that out. Anyway, we cared for him at our home until his death. He would wander freely so we had to block stairways and lock outside doors for fear of him wandering off.

We took him to a nursing home for a week once to give us a vacation but when we learned they actually strapped him to a chair, we raised hell and vowed never to put him through that again.

I was blown away when they told me that it is common practice.

It sounds as though Germany has a little more respect for their elderly, or at least this one center does.

How does a German senior center stop alzheimer’s patients from wandering off?

It builds a phony bus stop outside its entrance.

The nursing home was continuously relying on police to find wayward patients who left the site in search of old homes and families (that sometimes did not exist).

“It sounds funny,” said Old Lions Chairman Franz-Josef Goebel, “but (the fake bus stop) helps. Our members are 84 years-old on average. Their short-term memory hardly works at all, but the long-term memory is still active. They know the green and yellow bus sign and remember that waiting there means they will go home.” The result is that errant patients now wait for their trip home at the bus stop, before quickly forgetting why they were there in the first place.

Nursing home staff members then approach them and invite them inside for coffee.

Jack duly arrived at Paddington Station in London the following Tuesday armed with the information he had been give .... London WC5.

As he strode purposefully across the concourse he noticed a sign to the right - "WC". He immediately made his way through the door and down the stairs where he encountered a row of small doors with numbers on.

Consulting his notes quickly, he made his way to WC number 5 and banged fiercely on the door.

"Are you Neally Dunne?", he demanded.

"Yes, but there's no paper", came a small voice from inside.

"Dats no excuse for not writing to your Mother!!".

Some years ago, in the hills above Killarney, there lived Seamus and Isobel Dunne and their family of 6 boys.

It was a happy but isolated existence, so it came as a bit of a shock when eldest son Niel announced that he was off to seek his fortune amongst the bright lights of London. His parents tried to dissuade him but he was focussed on this particular dream and one day in early May he duly set off after a tearful farewell to his family. All they knew was that he would be heading for London WC5 and would be writing back with news and details.

The Summer came and went in that idyllic but changeable area of Kerry. As Autumn approached there had still been no word from young Niel and his parents were worried sick. When the local Publican, Jack, announced that he would be visiting London next week to see his brother, the Dunnes quickly persuaded him to help find out how their boy was getting on in the big City.

Sienna Miller certainly risked a lot when she took on a butt-kicking villainous role in "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" and it turns out that during filming she nearly lost her something very close to her heart. Literally.

"I burned my boobs," Miller admitted to Tarts at Thursday's Hollywood premiere. "I slipped on a rubber bullet and I was covered in bruises. But it was all funny, that's what you sign up for."

According to director Stephen Sommers, the British beauty (thankfully) hasn't suffered any long-term consequences.
