You have read the press release already.

It certainly looks like the real deal, and with a surprising variety of features.

The hominoid (please note, not hominid) body, found in the Georgia woods, is now in a secure location, under armed guard, and set to be examined by a battery of academic scholars, skeptical scientists, Bigfoot researchers, and debunking writers.

Will further tests and the proposed live capture of others prove beyond a doubt that Bigfoot is a new species? Stay tuned.

Here are some enhancements and other views of the amazing photograph:

Researchers believe replacing muscle, bone, skin; even neurons, teeth, eyes, and other organs could be in beginning stages by 2018.

Augmentation: Procedures expected to be in place by as early as 2015 include improved memory recall, simultaneous language translation, long range and microscopic vision on demand, wide spectrum hearing, distinctive voice projection, and stronger muscles. And by mid-to-late-2020s, “nanobots” monitoring each of our cells could keep us ageless and forever healthy.

Designed Evolution: These could include memory, intelligence, speed, agility, and other behavioral and physical attributes. Eliminating undesired genes that might pre-dispose a child to cancer, heart disease or alcoholism could be possible by about 2015.

Clip Source: aftermathnews.wordpress.com

Clip Source: www.positivefuturist.com

In just ten short years, you may be looking into the mirror and wondering, “Who is that gorgeous creature?” Your reflection would reveal a much younger and healthier you; Bangkok - Thai provincial officials have allowed a new "human zoo" featuring "long-necked" or "giraffe" women to open in Sattahip near Bangkok despite mounting international criticism of the exploitative tourism practice, media reports said Monday. The residents are part of an ethnic group whose women wear brass rings around their necks as status symbols and beauty enhancements. They are called the Padung or long-necked Karen in Thailand, but they consider those terms denigrating and call themselves Kayan

Sattahip district chief Narong Thirachantarangkoon brushed off accusations that he had allowed the establishment of a "human zoo" in his district.

"I don't think so because the Karen are willingly living here," he said. "This is better than staying in their home region and starving.

<clipSource>http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/206294,new-human-zoo-opens-on-thailands-eastern-seaboard.html</clipSource>

Make It Work-Work, Make It Work!

clipped by: Perkalicious11
clipper's remarks: Hidden functionality on your Canon Point-and-Shoot Digital Camera

Clip Source: lifehacker.com

If you're using a consumer grade point-and-shoot Canon digital camera, you've got hardware in hand that can support advanced features way beyond what shipped in the box. With the help of a free, open source project called CHDK, you can get features like RAW shooting mode, live RGB histograms, motion-detection, time-lapse, and even games on your existing camera. Let's transform your point-and-shoot into a super camera just by adding a little special sauce to its firmware.

Enhanced Image Capture:

Additional Information On-Screen:

Additional Photographic Settings:

Support for Small Programs/Scripts:

What You'll Need

Automatically Running CHDK

We've written extensively about Firefox's memory problems in the past and while Firefox 3 will address some of the issues, it won't solve the problem for everyone.

Part of Firefox’s memory overhead is by design. Whenever you visit a page in Firefox, the browser caches it for some time. If you frequently go back and forth between pages this cuts down on load time, but the trade off is increased memory usage.

RAMback simply adds a menu item to the tools menu (pictured above) that allows you to quickly dump your caches. If you assign a keyboard shortcut to it, you’ve got a quick, simple way to dump caches whenever you need to.

Tags: firefox 3, add-on, memory, ramback, stuart parmenter

<clipSource>http://blog.wired.com/monkeybites/2007/11/firefox-3-add-o.html</clipSource>

Homo Superior

clipped by: wildcat
clipper's remarks: The risks may be great, but so too are the rewards.

Clip Source: www.scienceagogo.com

Genetic engineering is getting serious. Recently researchers have shown that otherwise "hardwired" or innate responses, such as fear, can be manipulated and even reversed, that extreme muscle growth is possible, and that sexual preference can be changed. Genetic manipulations like these go well beyond the promised cosmetic enhancements – such as changing skin and eye color – and may in fact allow us to become the drivers of our species' evolution.

But are we capable of handling our newfound god status? The growing likelihood that, within the next decade, the fastest humans alive will be "disabled" holds the potential for profound "future shock." As I wrote about last year (in "The Accidental Cyborg"), young athletes facing the choice between rehabilitation and amputation for leg injuries are starting to pick amputation, knowing that the prosthetics could be an improvement, not an impairment.

Clip Source: www.openthefuture.com

Oscar Pistorius, AKA "Blade Runner" -- the South African sprinter who uses carbon fiber prosthetics in place of the lower legs amputated as a child -- has officially lost his bid to run in the 2008 Olympics. He's going to give one last appeal to the International Association of Athletics Federations, but his chances of success are slim. The official reason, according to the BBC:

"...his prosthetic limbs give him an advantage over able-bodied opponents..."

For now, Pistorius' artificial legs make him fast, but still human-fast (he came in second at a recent meet); although his prosthetics reduce his energy requirements by 25%, he has yet to hit the qualifying speed for the 400m race. It's entirely possible that, even had the IAAF accepted his bid, he wouldn't have made it to this Olympics.

But it's also entirely possible that, in 2012, he'd be breaking records right and left. And shortly thereafter, he wouldn't be alone in doing so.

Tags: science, sports, technology, olympics

<clipSource>http://www.openthefuture.com/2008/01/technodoping_and_the_new_olymp.html</clipSource>

GekoTip, a Tablet PC Tool for Firefox

clipped by: DarrenTooCool
clipper's remarks: I know not many will find this useful, as it is only for the Tablet PC. Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird, and Flock. It is a fork of the TPCTIP
project intended to patch outstanding bugs, create a stable extension
offering context-sensitive pen input in Firefox, and add useful extra
enhancements for Tablet PC and UMPC users in Firefox.
