ApE is an all-in-one plasmid and sequence workbench. Sequences can be uploaded to ApE manually, direct from the NCBI database or from ABI chromatogram traces. ApE can be used for sequence annotation, restriction mapping, primer design and sequence alignment. A great all round tool.

9. Cn3D
Cn3D… say it out loud… “see in 3D”. This great piece of software from NCBI is a sequence viewer with a difference. Not only does it perform 2D alignments, it also allows the user to see the position residues in the 3D protein sequence. Great for mutagenesis studies.

10. BioToolKit
This is one packed toolkit! Primer design, antibody design, microarray analysis, calculators for molecular weight, molar concentration and OD, centrifguation speed converter, label printing templates… and much more! Phew!

Mp3tag軟體可支援ID3v1, ID3v2.3, ID3v2.4, iTunes MP4, WMA, Vorbis Comments與APE等格式的Tag編輯工作，除了一般MP3格式之外，還可支援aac, flac, ape, mp4, m4a, mpc, ogg, ofr, ofs, spx, tak, tta, wma與wv等格式的音樂檔。使用時，可一次選取多個檔案進行批次作業，另外也可支援從Freedb、Amazon...等資料庫下載音樂檔或音樂CD的歌曲資料。

第1步 安裝好Mp3tag軟體並開啟之後，請依序按下「Tools」→ 「Options...」，開啟設定視窗。

二、在MP3音樂檔中嵌入封面、圖片

第2步 開啟Mp3tag軟體，將你要修改的檔案拉到Mp3tag視窗中，並用滑鼠左鍵選取你要修改的檔案。

我們可以一次選取全部MP3檔並嵌入同一張圖檔，也可以一次只選取一個MP3檔，幫每個MP3音樂檔設定不同的封面圖片。

第3步 選取好要修改的檔案之後，請在視窗左下角的封面圖示上按一下滑鼠右鍵，再點選「加入封面...」，並選取你要設定為封面的照片或圖片。

一個MP3檔可以同時嵌入多張照片來當做封面，不過並不是每個播放器都可以顯示全部圖片，大部分都會顯示最後一張圖片而已。

第4步 設定好MP3音樂檔的封面照片後，請按一下左上角的「儲存」按鈕，將目前的設定儲存到MP3音樂檔中。

第5步 設定好之後，原本只能用系統預設圖示顯示的MP3音樂檔，現在都變成剛剛我們所選取的照片囉。

第6步 將這些音樂檔傳到我的Hero手機中播放，播放歌曲時可以看到每首歌的封面照片，讓我們可以很直覺的依照MP3音樂檔中內嵌的圖片來快速選歌、播歌。

The skeleton of an early human who lived 4.4 million years ago shows that humans did not evolve from chimpanzee-like ancestors, researchers said.

Instead, the missing link - the common ancestor of both humans and modern apes - was different from both, and apes have evolved just as much as humans have from that common ancestor, they said.

The researchers stressed that "Ardi" may now be the oldest known hominid, but she was not the missing link.

"At 4.4 million years ago we found something pretty close to it," said Tim White of the University of California Berkeley, who helped lead the research team.

They described the partial skeleton of a female representative of Ardipithecus ramidus. The hominid species lived 4.4 million years ago in what is now Ethiopia.

The 1.2 metre-tall creature is a million years older than "Lucy" - the skeleton of another species called Australopithecus afarensis that is one of the best-known pre-humans.

Ardi: Oldest Human Skeleton Discovered, Bipedalism Origin May Be Revealed

The big news in the journal Science tomorrow is the discovery of the oldest human skeleton -- a small-brained, 110-pound female of the species Ardipithecus ramidus, nicknamed "Ardi." She lived in what is now Ethiopia 4.4 million years ago, which makes her over a million years older than the famous "Lucy" fossil, found in the same region thirty-five years ago.

One of the defining attributes of Lucy and all other hominids--members of our evolutionary lineage, including ourselves--is that they walk upright on two legs. While Ardi also walked on two legs on the ground, the species also clambered about on four legs in the trees. Ardi thus offers a fascinating glimpse of an ape caught in the act of becoming human.

RIGHT from the start of modern evolutionary science, why humans are hairless has been controversial. "No one supposes," wrote Charles Darwin in The Descent of Man, "that the nakedness of the skin is any direct advantage to man: his body, therefore, cannot have been divested of hair through natural selection."

If not natural selection, then what? Despite his book's title, Darwin had little to say about human origins. He intimated that his strongest supporter, Thomas Huxley, had already dealt extensively with that question, and contented himself with a couple of pages about how we came to differ from our nearest relatives, the African apes. He concluded that the loss of body hair was due to sexual selection: that men (or more specifically, he implies, women) became hairless to attract a mate.

If it was all about attitude, I would've made the grade, given that I was able to ape my sister's Californian accent after spending just a few days with her. But by my own admission in my Facebook status, I knew that I made more grammatical mistakes in the month I was in the States than the whole of 2008 altogether.

This was embarrassing, given that I already won three awards for plays I wrote in English. But apparently, make me speak solely in that language and after a short while, I'd be a gonner. Same thing goes for me and speaking in straight Filipino because yes, I am one of those horrid, horrid creatures who use Taglish as a crutch in everyday life. But hey, I spend most of my professional life writing in Filipino, and I do exert extra effort to push aside my collegiala-speak and bring out the beauty of the language to my audience.

The ancient ancestors of humans were tree dwellers, rather than the often depicted knuckle-dragging apes who slowly raised themselves up and evolved into walking humans, claim North American scientists.

Researchers believe that early human ancestors never used their knuckles to walk like gorillas but evolved from other apes that spent most of their time in trees.

They found that although our wrists were capable of 'knuckle walking', our predecessors were more likely to be hanging in trees.

The debate over the origins of human walking upright began during Charles Darwin's lifetime and scientists often depict man in a series of images ranging from knuckle-dragging ape into human walking straight and tall.

But a new study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, argues that we were more likely to dwell in trees and came down on two feet.

A holiday maker in Poland has filmed what could be the Polish Yeti.

27 year old Piotr Kowalski from Warsaw was on a walking holiday in the Polish Tatra mountains when he saw a large ape-like creature standing in the rocks ahead of him.

“I saw this huge ape-like form hiding behind the rocks. When I saw it it was like being struck by a thunderbolt,” he told the Superexpress.

“Coming from Warsaw, I never really believed the local stories of a wild mountain ape-man roaming the slopes. But, now I do.”

The video has been handed over to the Nautilus Foundation, a Polish organisation which specialises in the paranormal and cryptozoology.

“The film clearly shows ’something’ that moves on two legs and is bigger than a normal man,” says Robert Bernatowicz, president of the Nautilus Foundation.

“But because the camera shakes so much it is difficult to say what it is exactly. We need to go to the site and see what traces, if any, were left.”

You don't want to monkey around on a blind date, especially if your friends are also taking an interest in the same dark, handsome stranger.

So when three female gorillas at London Zoo heard that they would soon be visited by a brooding French hunk -- well, they went a bit bananas.

The latest development in Anglo-French relations sees Yeboah, a 20-stone 12-year-old, leave his current home at La Boissiere Du Dore Zoo, Pays de la Loire, northwest France and head for the British capital by the end of the year.

There he will be greeted by gorilla trio Zaire, Effie and Mjukuu, who were given posters of their prospective boyfriend for the first time Thursday.

One female gorilla shrieked in delight, while another wedged the poster in a tree to stare at it.

A third, clearly overcome by emotion, held the photo close to her chest -- then ate it.
