Hells Angels to the Bitter End

Check out this YouTube video of a Hells Angels funeral in Daly City, California. What a thunderous sendoff!

Mark “Papa” Guardado, president of the Hells Angels' San Francisco chapter, was murdered in a bar called the Dirty Thieves. The assassin was apparently a member of the Mongols Motorcycle Club. Can you think of a better way for an Angel to die? (By the way, if you make your living designing websites, check out the sites of both motorcycle clubs. Each site, in its own way, is brilliantly conceived and executed.)

I just wanted to let you know that I made it home. The journey wasn't an easy one, but it didn't take too long.

Everything is so pretty here, so white, so fresh and new I wish that you could close your eyes and that you could see it too. Please try not to be sad for me. Try to understand God is taking care of me...I'm in the shelter of His hands.

Here there is no sadness, no sorrow, and no pain. Here there is no crying and I'll never hurt again. Here it is so peaceful when all the angels sing. I really have to go for now... I've just got to try my wings.

Yet when I see such senior Democrats as Barney Frank, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, and Christopher Dodd, Chairman of the Senate's Banking Committee, play the part of avenging angels – well, I can only stand in silent awe at the sheer tight-bottomed nerve of it. These are men with sphincters of steel.

Which organisations were on their own responsible for guaranteeing half of this $12 trillion market? Now, who do you think were among the leading figures blocking all the earlier attempts by President Bush – and other Republicans – to bring these lending behemoths under greater regulatory control? More than half of Americans believe they are protected by a guardian angel and two in three are certain that heaven exists, according to a study of US religious beliefs released Thursday.

The survey, conducted by researchers at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, asked 350 questions about religion to 1,648 adults across the country.

Fifty-five percent said they believed they were protected from harm by a guardian angel, a figure that researcher Christopher Bader said came as a surprise.

"To find out that more than half of the American public believes this was shocking to me. I did not expect that," he said.

Sixty-seven percent said they were "absolutely sure" heaven exists and 17 percent believed it "probably" does. Seventy-three percent of Americans believe in hell, it found.

Women are more likely than men to believe in heaven (68 percent to 56 percent), blacks more than whites (86 percent to 60 percent), southerners more than easterners (76 percent to 50 percent).

clipper's remarks: What defines "respectable" religion from a cult. I suspect it's either number of followers or going against the favorite wedge issue of the day. In reality, the differences are very small and often hinge on the number of angels on a pin.

An experience of the supernatural is just a misinterpretation of the natural.

The idea that there is an angel protecting these people is really absurd, and it actually annoys me because its so arrogant.

It presupposes that this one person is more important than another based on some divine double standard which condemns one person to die, or at least suffer, while saving the other.
