clipper's remarks: Alanocu did a great clip on the Kinsey Report which got me thinking about Shere Hite and how controversial her report was. Here is one reaction way back in 1977 to it.

"Most men approve of premarital intercourse for women—but not too much. Say the authors: "There exists in their minds a vague point where the woman crosses the line from respectability into whoredom."

I wonder if that particular attitude has changed since 1977? hmmmmm . . .

As Indiana Jones races against time to find an ancient crystal skull in his new movie adventure, he should perhaps take a moment to check its authenticity.

New research suggests that two well-known crystal skulls, in the British Museum and the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC, did not, after all, come from ancient Mexico. Academics now believe the British skull was made in 19th century Europe and the American one even more recently.

Electron microscope analysis for tool marks found both skulls were carved with rotary disc-shaped tool -- a technology which the Ancient Mexicans did not have.

"It is always disappointing when an intriguing artefact like a crystal skull turns out not to be genuine.

an international team has used the latest scientific techniques to examine the British Museum skull and a larger white quartz skull donated to the Smithsonian Institution in 1992.

Orchid House, an eco-house in a Cotswold nature reserve, will take three years to build

An innovative eco-friendly home in a Cotswold nature reserve has been sold for a world record £7.2 million for a country house.

The 'thoroughly modern manor house', modelled on a bee orchid found on the reserve, was sold off-plan last week to an anonymous buyer.

The size of an average semi, the cost works out at £3,000 per square foot.

Over the next few hundred years, origami became familiar in many aspects of Japanese culture. By the Heian period of Japanese history, origami was a significant aspect of Japanese ceremony. Samurai warriors would exchange gifts adorned with noshi, a sort of good luck token made of folded strips of paper. Origami butterflies were used during the celebration of Shinto weddings to represent the bride and groom.

In the 1960's the art of origami began to spread out, first with modular origami and then with various movements developing, including the kirikomi.

Equine entrepreneurs and brothers Robert and Herbert Thompson are just a couple of good ole boys and their pony, doing what comes natural.

“Every time we’d start to go anywhere, he would act like he wanted to go with us.” says Herbert.

“So I said why don’t we fix the car so he can get in and out. We fixed the car, and sure enough …”

Ahh, bacon! That crispy, chewy, salty and sinful cut of pork we all love.

Bacon has disciples far and wide, some of whom devote entire blogs to it.

For those who’ve spent more time eating it than studying it, bacon is cut from the sides, belly, or back of a pig, near the ribs. It’s the fattiness of the meat that makes it so yummy. After the skin is cut away, the meat is cured, smoked, and sliced. It can be cooked in a pan on the stovetop, in the oven, or in the microwave, until it’s perfectly crisp.
