I had Encephalitis, swelling of the entire brain due to any virus or bacteria. It can lead to everything from death, coma, severe on going brain damage, mostly neurological in nature. I was told by so many doctors and specialists of every kind that my damage was permanent. I was told I would never recover, never read , never write again, etc. etc. But one doctor told me not to listen. My largest problem was short term memory loss and epilepsy. It made it impossibles to read, hold a conversation, etc. He said the brain was misunderstood and capable of repairing itself. He told me to give it three good years. I did and although not every problem went away, he was right. 80% of it did get better. The brain can repair itself to a great degree and when neurologists tell people they can't with 100% assurance, they are destroying their hope and possibly their lives.

Deadly blasts hit Istanbul street

At least 15 people have been killed and 154 wounded in two explosions in the Turkish city of Istanbul, in what officials say was a terrorist attack.

The first blast occurred in a rubbish bin in the busy Gungoren residential area. The second, larger explosion occurred as crowds gathered.

So far there has been no indication of who was responsible for the blasts.

Two penguins native to Antarctica met one spring day in 1998 in a tank at the Central Park Zoo in midtown Manhattan. They perched atop stones and took turns diving in and out of the clear water below.

They entwined necks, called to each other and mated. They then built a nest together to prepare for an egg.

But no egg was forthcoming: Roy and Silo were both male.

Like most animal species, penguins tend to pair with the opposite sex, for the obvious reason.

But researchers are finding that same-sex couplings are surprisingly widespread in the animal kingdom.

Unlike most humans, however, individual animals generally cannot be classified as gay or straight: an animal that engages in a same-sex flirtation or partnership does not necessarily shun heterosexual encounters.

Meanwhile, exercise is a useful remedy for many types of chronic pain.

In an Italian study detailed in the May issue of the journal Cephalalgia, office workers did relaxation and posture exercises every two to three hours. Over an eight-month period, they kept diaries, which were then compared to those of a control group that did not change habits. In the end, the group that exercised reported that headaches and neck and shoulder pain decreased by more than 40 per cent, and their use of painkillers was cut in half.

"Physical activity is actually a natural pain reliever for most people suffering from arthritis," concludes another study published in the Arthritis Care and Research journal in April. "Even minor lifestyle changes like taking a 10-minute walk three times a day can reduce the impact of arthritis on a person's daily activities and help to prevent developing more painful arthritis

Physical activity can actually reduce pain naturally and decrease dependence on pain medications."
