British researchers have unearthed evidence that proves Helen was much more than a chattel

Women in Ancient Greece were major power brokers in their own right, researchers have discovered, and often played key roles in running affairs of state. Until now it was thought they were treated little better than servants.

The discovery is part of an investigation by Manchester researchers into the founders of Mycenae, Europe's first great city-state and capital of King Agamemnon's domains.

'It was thought that in those days women were rated as little more than chattels in Ancient Greece,' said Professor Terry Brown, of the faculty of life sciences at Manchester University. 'Our work now suggests that notion is wrong.'

Mycenae is one of the most important and evocative archaeological sites in Europe. According to legend, Agamemnon led his armies from Mycenae to Troy to bring back Helen - the wife of his ally, Menelaus - who had run off with the Trojan prince Paris.

Hints of the singularity's approach can be found in the arguments of its critics

I think it's likely that with technology we can in the fairly near future create or become creatures of more than human intelligence. Such a technological singularity would revolutionize our world, ushering in a posthuman epoch. If it were to happen a million years from now, no big deal. So what do I mean by “fairly near” future? In my 1993 essay, “The Coming Technological Singularity,” I said I'd be surprised if the singularity had not happened by 2030. I'll stand by that claim, assuming we avoid the showstopping catastrophes—things like nuclear war, superplagues, climate crash—that we properly spend our anxiety upon.

The AI Scenario: We create superhuman artificial intelligence (AI) in computers.

The IA Scenario: We enhance human intelligence through human-to-computer interfaces—that is, we achieve intelligence amplification (IA).

Now you know why the singularity has also been called the rapture of the geeks.

The singularity is supposed to begin shortly after engineers build the first computer with greater-than-human intelligence.

clipper's remarks: This type of fear based mentality on the side of parents and school administrators is a large part of the reason teens struggle with sexual issues. Parents don't want to talk about it...prosecute teachers who try to answer the students questions...and yet we ask "Oh my! What has happened to our youth? Where have we gone wrong?"

These parents need to be sued for utter stupidity. Don't attack a Sex-Ed teacher for trying to answer legitimate questions!

If they want to control the minds of their children...HOME SCHOOL them in a church basement somewhere and mind the shackles please, they tend to come loose with time and age.

A group of Herriman parents who claim a middle school health teacher gave students information about sex that isn't allowed under state law are working with a lawmaker to seek criminal penalties for such behavior.

According to Reuters-India, every year dozens of Indian women are killed for being witches or practicing "black magic." A woman in Bhubaneswar, India, was beaten, gagged and burned to death last week when accused of witchcraft

CNN reports that another Indian woman was tied to a tree and beaten by a mob on Friday. The woman had been hired by a man "to use magic and prayer to improve his wife's health," but was accused of being a witch when his wife’s health deteriorated

In Kenya last week, eight women and three men were killed when a mob dragged them from their houses and burned them individually, according to the BBC. Villagers reported finding evidence that the eight were witches in an exercise book found at a local school with minutes of a "witches meeting."

Feminist News Wire has recently noticed an increase in news stories about the killing of women accused of witchcraft in Asia and Africa. While many consider 'witch hunts' a historical matter, they continue to affect women today

Riding a motorcycle is really cool and the adrenaline is a really nice feeling. Well, somebody thought to change the way that the motorcycle will transport you. Jake Loniak, a student at the Art Center College of Design, has came up with a system that will act as an extension of your body.

His idea came from Biomechatronics and he dubbed his concept as the Deux Ex Machina and will consist of an vertically parking motorcycle that will be managed by 36 pneumatic muscles with 2 linear actuators. The Deus Ex Machina is Yamaha-branded and it will be worn as an exo-skeleton and the helmet will be pneumatically attached.

The in-wheel motor will be able to power the motorcycle from 0 to 60mph in 3 seconds and it will have a maximum speed of 75mph. The Deus Ex Machina is electric and it can cycle one hour with a recharge time of 15 minutes.

My Youngest Son Graduates HS Today

This is going to be hectic.

Next year my daughter garaduates HS. Then It will just be me and the wife. We had children early into our marriage because we wanted to be young enough to enjoy our lives afterward. Too bad the economy won't let us do much.

My boy is going into the Navy Seabees like his brother and his dad
My daughter wants to do military service too.

May 29, 2008 -- A technology normally used in reconstructive surgery to create prosthetic limbs is now being applied to create reproductions of Iraq's precious and fragile cuneiform clay tablets, according to an Italian team of researchers.

Thousands and thousands of artifacts were stolen and broken at Bagdad's museums following the invasion of Iraq in 2003, in what has been called the most catastrophic theft of antiquities since World War II.

Called "Duplication and Rebirth," the project consist of an electronic catalogue with bibliographical references, photographs, and when possible, 3D images of the tablets. These three-dimensional models can then produce exact replicas of the original relics.

While scholars estimate that roughly five million of the tablets are still buried in the mounds of Iraq, some 500,000 are kept in museum and private collections worldwide.
