Leonard Woronowicz, 63, had such a terrible headache that he was forced to go the hospital to check it out. The doctors pulled out a 12 cm long blade from his head.

The construction worker Isidro Meija, 39, from California accidentally slipped and shot himself with a nail gun in 2004.

Shafique El-Fahkri, 19, got a chair leg straight through his eye during a bar fight last year. He recovered 95 % of his eyesight.

Without noticing it Patrick Lawler shot himself with a nail gun in the head.

The construction worker Ron Hunt fell from a ladder onto the drill in California

Morgan Andersson, 34, from Sweden accidentally swallowed a nail.

Led by Walter the Penniless and Peter the Hermit, the army was destroyed by the Seljuk forces of Kilij Arslan.

The People's Crusade of 1096 had been a well-meaning bust, so it was time for the real army to swing into action. And even though it was really the "second" crusade, it's called the "first."

Knights and princes - experienced, battle-hardened warriors - led a series of campaigns against the infidel Turks to conquer the Holy Land for the Christian cause. The first of these 'official' campaigns was named, not surprisingly, the First Crusade (1096-1099).

It is well established that the brain uses more energy than any other human organ, accounting for up to 20 percent of the body's total haul. Until now, most scientists believed that it used the bulk of that energy to fuel electrical impulses that neurons employ to communicate with one another. Turns out, though, that is only part of the story.

A new study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA indicates that two thirds of the brain's energy budget is used to help neurons or nerve cells "fire'' or send signals. The remaining third, however, is used for what study co-author Wei Chen, a radiologist at the University of Minnesota Medical School, refers to as "housekeeping," or cell-health maintenance.

Their goal: to determine whether ATP production is linked to brain activity by measuring the energy expended during different levels of consciousness.
