An 85-year-old man was requested by his doctor to give a sperm count as part of his physical exam. The doctor gave the man a jar and said, "Take this jar home and bring back a semen sample tomorrow."

The next day the 85-year-old man reappeared at the doctor's office and gave him the jar, which was as clean and empty as on the previous day. The doctor asked what happened and the man explained,

"Well, doc, it's like this - first I tried with my right hand, but nothing. Then I tried with my left hand, but still nothing. Then I asked my wife for help. She tried with her right hand, then with her left, still nothing. She tried with her mouth,first with the teeth in, then with her teeth out, still nothing. We even called up Arleen, the lady next door and she tried too, first with both hands, then an armpit, and she even tried squeezin' it between her knees, but still nothing"

The doctor was shocked! "You asked your neighbour?"

With a name like T. rex, you'd expect to be safe from even the fiercest paleo-bullies. Turns out, ancient, flying reptiles could have snacked on Tyrannosaurus Rex babies and other landlubbing runts of the dinosaur world.

A new study reveals a group of flying reptiles that lived during the Age of Dinosaurs some 230 million to 65 million years ago did not catch prey in flight, but rather stalked them on land.

Until now, paleontologists pictured the so-called "winged lizards" or pterosaurs as skim-feeders. In this vision, the creatures would have flown over lakes and oceans grabbing fish from the water's surface, much as gulls do today.

"In our hypothesis, flight is primarily a locomotive method," said co-researcher Mark Witton of the University of Portsmouth in England. "They're just using it to get from point A to point B. We think the majority of their lives, when they're feeding and reproducing, that's all being done on the ground rather than in the air."

Archaeologists have discovered a portico, or covered entryway, of an ancient Egyptian temple beneath the surface of the Nile River.

The entryway once led to the temple of the ram-headed fertility god Khnum, experts say.

A team of Egyptian archaeologist-divers found the portico in Aswan while conducting the first-ever underwater surveys of the Nile, which began earlier this year.

Today's Nile obscures many objects from ancient times, and archaeologists believe the underwater excavations will reveal other significant artifacts.

Japan has said sorry for planting cannabis on an incoming Hong Kong passenger to test out one of its sniffer dogs, a news report said today.

Embarrassed officials had to issue a public appeal to the passenger to return the 142 grams of cannabis after the sniffer dog failed to detect it and the customs officer forgot which bag he planted the drugs in.

The incident on Sunday, in which a passenger on a Cathay Pacific flight into Tokyo was targeted collecting a suitcase from the airport carousel, brought an outcry from the Hong Kong government and tourism officials.

The drugs - worth almost $US10,000 ($A10,436.23) - were eventually recovered on Monday evening from the passenger in a Tokyo hotel, but it is not known if the passenger was traced or whether he or she alerted officials.

In a statement in today South China Morning Post, a spokesperson for Japan's customs authorities said the department felt "great regret and we offer our deepest apologies."

Incredible pictures of one of Earth's last uncontacted tribes firing bows and arrows

Skin painted bright red, heads partially shaved, arrows drawn back in the longbows and aimed square at the aircraft buzzing overhead. The gesture is unmistakable: Stay Away.

The apparent aggression shown by these people is quite understandable. For they are members of one of Earth's last uncontacted tribes, who live in the Envira region in the thick rainforest along the Brazilian-Peruvian frontier.

An abrupt release of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, about 635 million years ago from ice sheets that then extended to Earth’s low latitudes caused a dramatic shift in climate, triggering a series of events that resulted in global warming and effectively ended the last “snowball” ice age, a UC Riverside-led study reports.

The researchers posit that the methane was released gradually at first and then in abundance from clathrates – methane ice that forms and stabilizes beneath ice sheets under specific temperatures and pressures.

“Our findings document an abrupt and catastrophic means of global warming that abruptly led from a very cold, seemingly stable climate state to a very warm also stable climate state with no pause in between,” said Martin Kennedy, a professor of geology in the Department of Earth Sciences, who led the research team.

I came across another interesting chapter in the book "The Private Life of the Brain" written by Susan Greenfield (2005) where she depicts the interesting cognitive states. One of these cognitive states is the meditation process. Greenfield (2005) mentions that meditators impose back on the outside world a complete understanding rather than being a passive recipient. Th term "unconditional compassion" may also be used here.

This idea of "unconditional compassion" asserts that our selfish self-interest usually requires feedback from the outside world. Yet, in meditation, one's ego may cease to exist and not require praise and reassurance as we usually do throughout our daily life.

According to Greenfield, emotions are the most basic form of consciousness whereas the greater the emotions the more one looses the self

this type of consciousness makes us apply our wisdom and intelligence to the outside world very extensively due to our developed inner resources
