There has to be something wrong with this equation. Put those three factors together - loads of children, broken homes, absent mothers - and what you have, surely, is a recipe for misery and social chaos. But no.

It is a largely pagan country, as the natives like to see it, unburdened by the taboos that generate so much distress elsewhere. That means they are practical people. Which, in turn, means lots of divorces.

'Patchwork families are a tradition here,'

'It is common for women to have kids with more than one man. They just leave.' And the reason they can do so is that society, starting with the parents and grandparents, does not stigmatise them for making that choice. Tired of the United States and the other 190-odd nations on Earth?

If a small team of Silicon Valley millionaires get their way, in a few years, you could have a new option for global citizenship: A permanent, quasi-sovereign nation floating in international waters.

With a $500,000 donation from PayPal founder Peter Thiel, a Google engineer and a former Sun Microsystems programmer have launched The Seasteading Institute, an organization dedicated to creating experimental ocean communities "with diverse social, political, and legal systems."

"Decades from now, those looking back at the start of the century will understand that Seasteading was an obvious step towards encouraging the development of more efficient, practical public-sector models around the world," Thiel said in a statement.

day generate billions of watts of power, entirely replacing 19th century coal and 20th century gas, oil and nuclear fission, and all without producing any carbon dioxide or long-lived radioactive waste.

It’s the ultimate power panacea for a warming Biomimicry is a new science that studies nature’s best ideas and then imitates these designs and processes to solve human problems. Studying a leaf to invent a better solar cell is an example of this “innovation inspired by nature.”

Being that the supply of crude oil is finite, the very foundation of our economy will one day run dry. Nature, on the other hand, runs on the unlimited bounty of sunlight and creates no waste. Unlimited clean energy is just one example of the genius of nature which author Janine Benyus points out in her landmark work, Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature.

One example a next-generation power source mimicking the genius of
nature is the Australian firm BioPower
Systems, which has developed Biowave: an ocean power system that
harnesses energy by mimicking the motion of underwater plants in the
ocean currents to generate electricity.

Tags: biomimicry, nature, energy

<clipSource>http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2008/05/planets-energy.html</clipSource>

The Golden Rule

clipped by: Socratoad
clipper's remarks: Time to repost this methinks

Clip Source: www.jcu.edu

<clipSource>http://www.jcu.edu/philosophy/gensler/poster.gif</clipSource>

Growth chart - adorable

clipped by: bignosemousie
clipper's remarks: Awww. Remove from chocolate, turn upside down and wiggle so that the excess starts to slide down slightly. Then lay on the wax paper upside down. If you want them to be lollipops, then go ahead and insert the lollipop sticks while the chocolate is still wet. Continue with rest of the cupcakes. You can also leave some without the sticks.
