The moment an elephant crushes a couple's car roof

This couple had a holiday moment they'll never forget when a huge elephant took an disconcertingly close interest in their car.

The Swiss tourists were driving through South Africa's Hluhluwe game park when the gigantic animal strolled into the dirt road.

Dwarfing their car, the African elephant lifted its trunk and fearsome tusks – then brought them down squarely on the vehicle's roof.

It's unclear whether the elephant was attempting to lift the car or merely investigate it, but the couple may count themselves lucky their encounter was not with one of the park's other wild beasts.

Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, 175 miles north of eastern port Durban, is also home to rhinos, lions, leopards, crocodiles and cheetah – any of which might have been more interested in a snack than a peek.

Every now and then we post amazing set of 3D sidewalk paintings done usually by chalk artist Julian Beever. These things never get old, and always manage to fascinate. I collected dozen of photos never before seen on this site, and integrated them in this article. All look amazing to me, but I liked the "World" one the best. Is it your favorite too? Another thing I noticed, is that this particular artist always poses next to his creations (when finished) in a very original way! NEW YORK: A new particle-smashing experiment has uncovered surprising evidence that nature treats matter and antimatter differently.

The findings, detailed today in the U.K. journal Nature, suggests that a complete solution to the mystery of why the observable universe is dominated by matter, and not antimatter, may have to await the discovery of novel particles or the invention of new physics.

According to the standard model of physics, matter and antimatter were created in equal quantities shortly after the Big Bang. The two types of particles should have thus cancelled each other out and the universe should be permeated by energy.

But as our existence attests, that did not happen. Experiments suggests the universe today is composed of about 75 per cent dark energy, 20 per cent dark matter, and five per cent matter/antimatter, with the overwhelming bulk of the latter consisting of normal matter.

The village’s forty houses and the school all have large solar panels covering their roofs. A typical roof will have a two kilowatt solar installation. In 2004, the government subsidized the solar systems in Donggwang, paying 70% of the installation fees.

Malachite is a famous and very popular semi-precious stone. It is named for the Greek word for "mallow", a green herb. Its banded light and dark green designs are one-of-a-kind, and give it a unique ornamental quality unlike that of any other stone. The light and dark green bands are so distinctive that malachite maybe one of the most easily recognized minerals by the general public. A popular design of ceramic ware which imitates this banding is named after the mineral malachite. It forms the banding from subtle changes in the oxidation states of the surrounding pore waters, but the exact mechanism is still not well understood.

Imagine running up to the bakery around the corner and coming across bread shaped like body parts. Sound yummy? Artist Kittiwat Unarrom creates just that; gruesome works of art out of bread.

He started using his skills and made sculptures out of bread. This came naturally to him because his family runs a bakery. The bread is made out of dough, raisins, cashews and chocolate. He just adds his own touch to the finished product.
