TOKYO (AFP) -
The human race will find life elsewhere in the universe as it pushes ahead with space exploration, astronauts back from the latest US space mission said Monday.

"If we push back boundaries far enough, I'm sure eventually we'll find something out there," said Mike Foreman, a mission specialist on the Endeavour, which returned to Earth in March.

"Maybe not as evolved as we are, but it's hard to believe that there is not life somewhere else in this great universe," he told a news conference in Tokyo.

Tags: space, universe, life, science

<clipSource>http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080512/sc_afp/japanusspace_080512063617</clipSource>

Made Where..?

clipped by: Vikings in York were eating cod caught off the Norwegian coast.

The research, reported in this month's Journal of Archaeological Science, also shows the 1,000-year-old origins of the modern problem of declining fish stocks, as fishing grounds had to supply far more than a local market. The emergence of commercial fishing "may represent the point at which people started to have an impact on marine ecoystems," said James Barrett, of Cambridge University's archaeology department.

Tags: archaeology, vikings, europe, fish, trade, history

<clipSource>http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2008/may/05/archaeology.heritage</clipSource>

Golden Rules For Living

clipped by: skwirlinator
clipper's remarks: Clipped this before but I can't find it and neither can clipsearch

Clip Source: www.appleseeds.org

Recently the 9FF engineers tried to beat that with their modified GT9 but couldn’t do it. They only managed to make it run at 409 km/h at a track in Papenburg on 10th April.

9FF’s GT9 was based on the Porsche 911 GT3, but lower and longer. The interesting part is that the car has the engine in the middle (not the rear) for better weight distribution. Now that I mentioned the engine, the beast outputs 987 bhp from a 4L flax six twin turbo and a six-speed transmission.
Though they couldn’t beat the world record, 9FF guys can stand proud because they managed to take on the Bugatti Veyron which topped at 407 km/h. The GT9 however, is not as fast as the Veyron : 0 - 60 mph in 4.2 seconds.

<clipSource>http://www.carblog.co.za/2008/05/09/9ff-gt9-almost-breask-world-speed-record-409-kmh/</clipSource>

Jim Caviezel really walks his talk.....

clipped by: Antara
clipper's remarks: I found this to be a really interesting story...

Clip Source: www.catholic.org

TORONTO (LifeSiteNews) - Jim Caviezel, the star of the blockbuster film The Passion of the Christ, told an interviewer that he had been challenged by a friend who was not pro-life to live up to his professed pro-life convictions and adopt a disabled child.

The friend told Caviezel that if he did that, then he would change to the pro-life position. When Caviezel and his wife, Kerri, went to China to adopt not one, but eventually two orphans suffering from brain tumours, the friend reneged on the deal. Caviezel, however, said, "It didn't matter to me because the joy that we had from (Bo) - he's like our own."

The Caviezels nursed Bo through his surgeries and he remains today at the centre of the family.

Streams dissecting the upland cannot cut below the level created where deposition of alluvium begins as runoff dissipates.
