She said: "I'd like people to consider what it means to let the government control our daily lives.

"When we are controlled we hand over our individual responsibilities to the state. I wanted to make a suit for the non-criminal citizen whose house is being watched 24 hours by street surveillance cameras. I'm also responding to a wish to disappear."

Spot the 'invisible' men and women in artist's amazing photographs

In the natural world, the chameleon blends in perfectly with its background.

In the urban jungle, Desiree Palmen decided to attempt the same visual deception.

Miss Palmen, a 44-year-old Dutch artist, uses a method that requires a huge amount of effort and attention to detail.

She makes cotton suits and paints the camouflage on by hand, painstakingly matching it to the chosen background. Either she or a model then poses in the suit in the chosen place.

The scenes are photographed and filmed and then put on display.

"People always react strongly when they see my work," she said.

Last week the Court of Appeal handed down two trenchant verdicts in an attempt to inject common sense into nonsensical terror laws.

One implicitly demanded an apology and compensation from the government for a wholly innocent airline pilot imprisoned in 2001 after the police and Crown Prosecution Service lied to a court that he was the “lead instructor” of the 9/11 hijackers.

Every shred of evidence appeared to have been fabricated by police in America – possibly obtained under torture

The appeal court castigated the police and Home Office and told the pilot, in effect, to sue them for all he could get.

The second High Court judgment was, in effect, against the 2000 Terrorism Act itself, notably its section 57 which criminalises the possession of literature (or a download) that “creates a serious risk to the health and safety of the public . . . for the purpose of advancing a political cause”.

it was like sending someone to prison for reading Mein Kampf.

Electron filmed for first time ever

Now it is possible to see a movie of an electron. The movie shows how an electron rides on a light wave after just having been pulled away from an atom. This is the first time an electron has ever been filmed, and the results are presented in the latest issue of Physical Review Letters.

Previously it has been impossible to photograph electrons since their extremely high velocities have produced blurry pictures. In order to capture these rapid events, extremely short flashes of light are necessary, but such flashes were not previously available. With the use of a newly developed technology for generating short pulses from intense laser light, so-called attosecond pulses, scientists at the Lund University Faculty of Engineering in Sweden have managed to capture the electron motion for the first time.
