You get to see things that you don’t notice as you drive by in a car. You may have run the same route 50 times but you find yourself seeing something different each time. I ran by a tree than had grown over a fence and it got me to thinking, there are probably some cool picture of things “swallowed” by trees.

Clip Source: elitefeet.com

Seen While Running: Eaten By Trees

Most policeman keep track of how long you’ve been parked in a spot by marking the tires with white chalk.

This may be the only instance ever where they can measure the time by counting rings in a tree.

These are the results of a research made by the Medical Research Council and published in the "American Journal of Public Health," which points that women are particularly prone to drink heavily in their thirties, if they have an over-the-average intelligence.

It seems that being smart enough to know the bad effects

of alcohol is not enough and the stressful jobs of high-skilled professionals push them to the alcohol relief. This is especially true if women attempt to ascend in male-dominated professions.

It appeared that the men and women who scored higher for childhood mental ability tests displayed higher rates of problem drinking in adulthood, and the likelihood of drink issue was increased for intelligent women compared to men.

Overall 47% of men and 22% of women had drinking issues, consuming over the recommended upper limits of 21 units weekly for men and 14 units weekly for women,

Tags: behavior, drinking, alcohol, intelligence

<clipSource>http://news.softpedia.com/news/Intelligent-People-Are-Prone-to-Alcoholism-78596.shtml</clipSource>

Mary Seacole: Black British Heroine

clipped by: mickfinn
clipper's remarks: Mary Jane Grant was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1805. Her father was a Scottish soldier, and her mother a Jamaican. Mary learned her nursing skills from her mother, who kept a boarding house for invalid soldiers. Although technically 'free', being of mixed race, Mary and her family had few civil rights - they could not vote, hold public office or enter the professions. In 1836, Mary married Edwin Seacole but the marriage was short-lived as he died in 1844.

Men may bemoan women's uncanny ability to remember every word and nuance of an argument weeks later, but there's a scientific basis for the gender gap.

Men and women are different in every system of the higher rate of blood flow to certain parts of the brain (including those that control language) as well as higher concentrations of estrogen, women's memories have been shown to be superior to men's in a couple of key areas:

The spoken women's memories, are better "packaged" and can be recalled more easily later, again thanks to enhanced blood flow to the brain.

Unpleasant, frightening or stressful experiences.

<hr size="2" color="#666666" The entire particle physics community is counting down to May like it was their birthday, Christmas and the Second Coming of the Lord all wrapped up in a clutch of Superbowls. It's when the Large Hadron Collider comes online, but while most are hoping for data and praying for the bashful Higgs boson to finally show it's tiny little face, some Russian mathematicians are warning that we might get more than we bargained for. Specifically, time-travellers: futurenauts using our ultra-duper atomsmasher to punch a hole in causality and hop back from the future.

The idea dates back to Einstein's explanation that spacetime can be
deformed by large energies or masses. Since the Large Hadron Collider
is a twenty-six kilometer ring of superconducting magnets designed to
do nothing but give a particle as large an energy as possible, that
sounds like it could be an issue

<div style="margin-bottom: by: CrazyRedHead
clipper's remarks: See? They hate it, too.

Clip Source: women.timesonline.co.uk

11 It makes you hate your fellow man. You can guarantee all the decent
restaurants will be booked up by smug w***ers

12 It makes men do stupid things, like light candles and stuff.

13 It gets men into trouble when they don’t do stupid things like light
candles and stuff.

14 It’s such a rip-off. With flowers, dinner and cabs, you’re looking
at a hundred quid minimum. Wouldn’t she just prefer the cash instead?

15 In new relationships, whether or not you take her out or buy her a
gift speaks volumes about “where you’re at”, way before you’re ready for the
“are we having a relationship?” chat. (Like you were ever ready for it
anyway.)

18 Isn’t one compulsory annual shopping event enough? Christmas is just
about excusable, as it’s okay to drink Baileys at 11am without anyone
questioning your sexuality. No such luck on the 14th.

20 There is nothing more disappointing than a woman you’d previously
earmarked as wife material not even laughing at the sheep card.

This diversity results from an evolutionary 'battle of the sexes'

Pacific oysters have an extraordinarily diverse range of proteins on the surfaces of their sperm and eggs and "these proteins take the place of the behavioural mechanisms that act in other organisms

Instead of simply accepting the first sperm to arrive, oyster eggs constantly evolve to all be slightly different, which cuts the proportion of sperm that are compatible with a given egg

<clipSource>http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?view=DETAILS&grid=&xml=/earth/2008/02/11/scioyster111.xml</clipSource>
