Two Nova Scotia students are being praised across North America for the unique way they turned the tide against a fellow student bullied for wearing pink.

The victim — a Grade 9 boy at Central Kings Rural High School in the small community of Cambridge — wore a pink polo shirt on his first day of school.

Bullies harassed the boy, called him a homosexual for wearing pink and threatened to beat him up, students said.

They went to a nearby discount store and bought 50 pink shirts, including tank tops, to wear to school the next day.

Then the two went online to e-mail classmates to get them on board with their anti-bullying cause that they dubbed a "sea of pink."

But a tsunami of support poured in the next day.

Not only were dozens of students outfitted with the discount tees, but hundreds of students showed up wearing their own pink clothes, some head-to-toe.

And there's been nary a peep from the bullies since, which Shepherd says just goes to show what a little activism will do.

Normal Vision

Protanomaly – reds appear weak (1% men)

Deuteranomaly – greens appear weak (5% men, 0.4% women)

Tritanomaly – blues appear weak (0% population)

Protanopia – reds are greatly reduced (1% men)

Deuteranopia – greens are greatly reduced (1% men)

Tritanopia – blues are greatly reduced (0.003% population)

Achromatopsia

The most severe type, Monochromacy, is very rare: all (Achromatopsia aka Rod Monochromacy), or most (Achromatomaly), color vision is lacking.

Color blindness is usually passed on at birth, but can come about through illnesses or accidents. Causes are generally related to the eye’s retinal cones being defective or absent.

We can better provide for those with color vision deficiencies by taking it into consideration as we design our websites, ads, illustrations, logos, typography or any visual communications.

A U.S. Justice Department official has been arrested on suspicion of traveling to Detroit over the weekend to have sex with a minor.

John David R. Atchison, 53, an assistant U.S. attorney from the northern district of Florida, was arraigned in U.S. District Court in Detroit Monday afternoon.

An undercover officer posed as a mother offering her child to Atchison for sex, according to police.

Prosecutors said Atchison flew from Pensacola, Fla., to Detroit on Sunday intending to have sex with the 5-year-old girl.

He is charged with enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity.

The detective, acting as the child's mother, allegedly arranged a sexual encounter between Atchison and her 5-year-old daughter, police said.

The undercover detective expressed concern about physical injury to the 5-year-old girl as a result of the sexual activity. Detectives said Atchison responded, " I am always gentle and loving; not to worry, no damage ever, no rough stuff ever. I only like it soft and nice."

A man's testes could one day provide a plentiful and accessible supply of adult stems cells to help him fight off disease or regenerate damaged organs, scientists suggest.

Sperm-making cells could one day be re-programmed to grow repair tissue for a range of diseased organs. But first scientists have to perfect the technique in mice

They say they've found a way of teaching mice stem cells that normally make sperm to make other tissues as well and to grow those cells into batches big enough to use medically.

This provides a new source of stem cells, the body's master cells, which experts hope can be used to treat injuries, replace diseased tissue and perhaps even regenerate organs.

They are hoping to find the same potential source of adult stem cells in humans.

"Some hurdles remain, of course. We have to replicate these findings in humans, and we haven't discovered the exact 'switch' that would allow us to control [their] development on demand," Rafii says.
