What do you think about when you pet a dog or cat? There are three typical categories:

1. You imagine how it feels for the animal so you can maximize its pleasure.

2. You think about how it feels to you and your hand.

3. You think about whatever you were going to think about anyway.

If you imagine what it’s like to be the animal, you are probably a generous and giving person who gets shit upon by everyone who has your cell phone number.

If you think about how you and your hand feel, you are probably a selfish, egotistical douche bag.

If you think about whatever you were going to think about anyway, you’re either a sociopath or too busy to enjoy life.

It’s important to have goals when you pet. Otherwise you’re just rubbing another mammal for no reason.

Man in wheelchair becomes temporary hood ornament

A man was taken on a wild ride when his wheelchair became lodged in the grille of a semitrailer and was accidentally pushed down a highway for four miles at about 50 mph, authorities said.

The 21-year-old man, whose name was not released, was unharmed but was taken to a hospital as a precaution. He had been secured to his wheelchair by a seat belt.

"The man spilled his soda pop, but he wasn't upset," said Sgt. Kathy Morton of the Michigan State Police.

Officers stopped the truck — wheelchair still attached — at a trucking company. The driver didn't believe officers until he stepped from his cab and saw for himself.

A new study found that people who thought they were treated unfairly were more likely to suffer a heart attack or chest pain. Those who thought they had experienced the worst injustice were 55% more likely to experience a coronary event than people who thought life was fair

The subjects were tracked for an average of 10.9 years. In that time, 387 either died of a heart attack, were treated for a nonfatal attack or diagnosed with angina

the subjects were questioned before they showed any signs of cardiovascular disease. That way, the results weren't skewed by people who thought life was unfair because they were already sick.

People who think they are victims of discrimination often respond by drinking, smoking or overeating.

They do things that take the edge off," Krieger said. "If you do those things, those will have health consequences

Frequent experiences of unfair treatment can produce psychological distress that, in the long term, may influence health," said lead author Roberto De Vogli

Report: Hilton Released Early From Jail

(CBS) NEW YORK After three days of silence regarding Paris Hilton’s stay at a Los Angeles County jail, sheriff’s deputies were ready to talk. TMZ.com is reporting that Paris Hilton was released from jail after only serving three days of her sentence.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department called a hastily scheduled news conference early Thursday morning outside the Century Regional Detention Facility to answer reporters’ questions about the famous inmate.

Hilton checked into the facility Sunday night to begin serving a more than three-week sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

She was held in a special unit where she was spending 23 hours a day in a solitary cell, her lawyer said.

After she checked in, sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said Hilton’s demeanor was helpful.

Not fair: Ten years for consensual oral sex

Prosecutors are obligated to protect defendants from unfair sentences

Ten years in prison for receiving oral sex. That is Genarlow Wilson’s sentence.

When he was 17 years old and a high school senior, he received consensual oral sex from a 15-year-old, 10th-grade girl.

Everyone agreed, including the prosecutor and the girl herself, that she initiated the act.

On the tape, police saw a 15-year-old perform oral sex on one partygoer, and after finishing with him, she turned and did the same to Wilson.

The D.A. offered Wilson — a football standout who was being recruited by some of nation’s top colleges, including Columbia and Brown — a plea deal: five years in prison and register as a sex offender. He turned it down.

The other students at the party took that deal and some of them are out of prison by now. Because Wilson thought he would be acquitted and did not want to be branded a child molester, he went to trial.
