Clipmarks¹, a site for both personal and social clipping of text and photos found on web sites, is adding video support today. Why is this interesting? Basically, the company is taking the work out of saving and sharing video.

HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, this article seemed in order.) Without help the person whose heart stops beating properly and who begins to feel Faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.

The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a phone and, between breaths, call for help.

Tell as many other people as possible about this, it could save their lives!

I confess that a year ago I really looked at the site initially for the free clipping tool and storage, but soon found myself seduced, amazed, and captivated with what everyone else was clipping. Then I discovered that I could subscribe to people whose clips I found interesting, as well as being able to lend my voice by "popping" things I thought were interesting---in essence rating them---and bringing them to more people's attention. The site really epitomizes the sort of utopian vision I'd have for the Web were I one of its architects. Really though you've just got to go and check out/try out Clipmarks for yourself, words here don't do it justice.

The NY-based team at Clipmarks just launched 2.0 of their product, a unique web clipping system that allows you to take just the paragraphs, sentences, or multimedia you want from a page while maintaining a link to the original document.

Clipmarks: Tiny nibbles of Web content

Clipmarks, a Web bookmarking service, launches its 2.0 version today. Previously, the service made it possible to snip paragraphs and pictures from Web pages and save them. Today, the service launches its new, supergranular version, which lets you clip out sentences or phrases--or, if you want to be silly about it, single words or letters.

Clipmarks could be very useful for anyone researching a topic. Bookmarking a collection of passages and pictures from a variety of Web pages, as opposed the pages themselves, could be just what you need when you're working on a report or trying to collect information before making a big purchase. Clipmarks gives you a nice Web page where it saves your clippings.

My thoughts
Clipmarks has been around awhile but didn’t capture my attention until the 2.0 release. In fact when I went to register I forgot I already registered. Is 2.0 more memorable? It’s not that it wasn’t a good product out of the gate, in fact they got favorable reviews. It just takes a lot to make me change my web habits. I usually give something a while if it seems promising. I follow a similar routine to Jeff Sanquist’s 7 day rule.

I was on some news program a few weeks ago talking about Barack Obama's YouTube videos and Hillary's online live chats, and at the end of the segment I said that the Internet empowers Regular-Joe candidates by giving them free access to a huge chunk of potential voters. The thing is, Obama and Hillary have tons of cash to run "real" political campaigns with slick TV spots and so on. They're taking the free route not to save cash but to reach YOU instead of the oldsters who watch the nightly news. If you're online, you're engaged, and politicians dig that.

Step 2: Keep a blog, but make it good. Link-baity lists like "17 Reasons to Enforce Anti-Spam Legislation" are good; "10 Reasons Mac Users Should Vote for Me" is better. Make sure you have a credible (yet hip) blogroll. And use ClipMarks to post snippets and ideas from around the Web and other blogs, to show that you can both talk and listen.

Speed up Firefox with these tweaks

Does Firefox seem way slower than Internet Explorer to you? Well it certainly is out of the box. I’m not sure why they don’t make the following settings default but check these out. They may change your opinion of the browser.

Type “about:config” in your firefox address bar.

Search for the following settings:

1. network.http.pipelining
Set to true
2. network.http.pipelining.firstrequest
Set to true
3. network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Set to 32
4. network.http.proxy.pipelining
Set to true
5. nglayout.initialpaint.delay
Set to 0

Its very likely that you won’t have an entry for network.http.pipelining.firstrequest. Thats ok. Just add one.

Right-click on the preferences list, select ‘New’ then select ‘Boolean’

On the first prompt, type:
network.http.pipelining.firstrequest

On the second prompt, set it to ‘true’

Its also likely that you won’t have an entry for nglayout.initialpaint.delay

Right-click on the preferences list, select ‘New’ then select ‘Integer’

On the first prompt, type:
nglayout.initialpaint.delay

On the second prompt, set it to ‘0′

Enabling the pipelining features allows the browser to make multiple requests to the server at the same time. The “maxrequests” is the maximum number of requests it will send at once. I’ve heard that 8 is the most it will send at once, but setting it higher won’t hurt, just in case. The initialpaint.delay is the length of time (in milliseconds) after the server response before the browser begins to paint the page.
