A study by Norwich's University of East Anglia (UEA) into leadership styles found the use of "taboo language" boosted team spirit.

Professor Yehuda Baruch, professor of management, warned that attempts to prevent workers from swearing could have a negative impact.

But Professor Baruch discouraged swearing in front of customers.

'Maintaining solidarity'

He said: "In most scenarios, in particular in the presence of customers or senior staff, profanity must be seriously discouraged or banned.

"However, our study suggested that, in many cases, taboo language serves the needs of people for developing and maintaining solidarity, and as a mechanism to cope with stress. Banning it could backfire.

Tags: swearing, stress

<clipSource>http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/7047536.stm</clipSource>

The New Nostradamus

clipped by: syncopath
clipper's remarks: worth read the whole article.

as they say: there is nothing new under the sun, but there is a lot of unknown there still 2be discovered .... -))

Clip Source: www.goodmagazine.com

If you listen to Bruce Bueno de Mesquita, and a lot of people don’t, he’ll claim that mathematics can tell you the future. In fact, the professor says that a computer model he built and has perfected over the last 25 years can predict the outcome of virtually any international conflict

His fans include at least one current presidential hopeful, a gaggle of Fortune 500 companies, the CIA, and the Department of Defense.

He is wildly controversial, though. As one of the foremost scholars of game theory—or “rational choice,” as its political-science practitioners prefer to call it—Bueno de Mesquita is at the center of a raging hullabaloo that has taken over some of the most prestigious halls of learning in this country

His only concern is with what the political actors want, what they say they want (often two very different things), and how each of their various options will affect their career advancement. He feeds this data into his computer model and out pop the answers.

Tags: bruce bueno de mesquita, political science, mathematical predictions, game theory

<clipSource>http://www.goodmagazine.com/section/Features/the_new_nostradamus</clipSource>

Meet Tetley, the little piggy the size of a cup of tea

clipped by: michellezm
clipper's remarks: Isn't this just the cutest little 'slice of ham'?

Clip Source: www.dailymail.co.uk

With his paws spread wide and taking a step up on to a cup of tea, this little piggy tries desperately hard to make himself big and strong.

But there's no getting away from the fact that he is still no bigger than a tea cup.

Tetley the miniature pig is the smallest of a litter of eight piglets born to his mum, Poppy Two Socks.

After several false pregnancies the miniature pig gave birth to her brood at Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh, Devon.

And Tetley, clearly keen on a cuppa himself, has grown no taller than three inches high and five inches long.

Pennywell miniature pigs are bred from a range of old English strains and grow no bigger than the size of a cocker spaniel.

Most of the litter will be sold as pets with the others kept at the farm for future breeding.

Pennywell owner Chris Murray said "Tetley is the star of the farmyard."

syncopath
clipper's remarks: a dead sea under ONE god ....

from the articles:
The unusually warm, incredibly buoyant and mineral-rich waters have attracted visitors since ancient times, including King Herod the Great and the beautiful Egyptian Queen, Cleopatra. All of whom have luxuriated in the Dead Sea’s rich, black, stimulating mud and floated effortlessly on their backs

Names of the Sea
Known in the Bible as the "Salt Sea" or the "Sea of the Arabah," this inland body of water is appropriately named because its high mineral content allows nothing to live in its waters. Other post-biblical names for the Dead Sea include the "Sea of Sodom," the "Sea of Lot," the "Sea of Asphalt" and the "Stinking Sea." In the Crusader period, it was sometimes called the "Devil's Sea." All of these names reflect something of the nature of this lake.

Clip Source: www.bibleplaces.com

Lowest Point

The Dead Sea is located in the Syro-African
Rift, a 4000-mile fault line in the earth's crust. The lowest
point of dry land on earth is the shoreline of the Dead Sea at 1300 feet
below sea level. That the lake is at the lowest point means that
water does not drain from this lake. Daily 7 million tons of water
evaporate but the minerals remain, causing the salt content to
increase. Figures for the Dead Sea's salinity today range from
        26-35%.

Nearly ten times as salty as the

They are rebelling against Bush and Cheney. Washington Post reporter Dana Priest recently said in an interview that she believed the US military would revolt and refuse to fly missions against Iran if the White House issued such orders.

"CENTCOM commander Admiral Fallon reportedly thwarted Cheney's wish to sent a third additional aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf. One paper wrote that he "vowed privately there would be no war against Iran as long as he was chief of CENTCOM."

"Lt. Gen. Wright, in charge of US forces in Japan, told AP last week that the Iraq war had weakened American forces in the face of any potential conflict with China. He was quoted as saying, "Are we in trouble? It depends on the scenario. But you have to be concerned about the small number of our forces and the age of our forces."

...Spiegel

Mutiny in the ranks - at the top!!!

Clip Source: www.spiegel.de

'Many in the US Military Think Bush and Cheney Are Out of Control'

The UN's World Food Program says the cost of cereals has risen 50 per cent over the past five years, which experts say is due to the world's growing population — particularly in non-food producing urban areas — combined with bad harvests and an increased demand for cereal products in previously rice-eating India and China.

Tags: world, poverty, united nations

<clipSource>http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20071016.wfood1016/BNStory/International/?page=rss&id=RTGAM.20071016.wfood1016</clipSource>

Scientists Discover Rare Black Jellyfish

clipped by: pokkets

Clip Source: www.mail.com

By OLIVER TEVES
<A href="javascript:alert('This link contains javascript.
