Is Palin confusing earmarks with clipmarks?

clipper's remarks: In trying to resolve the difference between her actions and her words when it comes to earmarks, i'm thinking that she may be confusing earmarks with Clipmarks.

To the best of my knowledge, Palin has never supported Clipmarks. So, maybe that's what she's referring to and the word "ear" just keeps magically replacing the "clip".

Cause the facts sure seem to suggest that she supported earmarks before she decided to say she didn't.

In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in earmarks, and in a Fairbanks newspaper column earlier this year, she wrote that federal monies, including earmarks, are “incredibly important” to the state. Palin also helped secure millions of dollars in federal money for her hometown of Wasilla while she was mayor.

Nevertheless, Palin told the outdoor audience in Ohio — many of whom came out in spite of the rain – that she was a champion of earmark reform in Alaska.

Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell, adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard, considers Palin "extremely responsive and smart" and says she is in charge when it comes to in-state services, such as emergencies and natural disasters where the National Guard is the first responder.

But, in an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday, he said he and Palin play no role in national defense activities, even when they involve the Alaska National Guard. The entire operation is under federal control, and the governor is not briefed on situations.

Obama 184.5 delegates short of nomination, Clinton 341

Obama won at least 94 delegates in the North Carolina and Indiana primaries, according to an analysis of election returns by The Associated Press. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton won at least 75 delegates, with 18 still to be awarded.

Sixteen of the outstanding delegates were from North Carolina and two were from Indiana.

There are 217 delegates at stake in the final six contests. Also, about 270 superdelegates are yet to be claimed.

The hypocrisy here is large; I would not expect anything else from Krauthammer but Michael Gerson is a "person of faith." And surely he knows the danger of hypocrisy in that part of the public sphere where religion intersects with politics. I'm sure he knows much of the Gospel of Matthew by heart. .. let me remind of Matthew 23 verses 13-15. Each verse begins, "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!"

America needs no heavenly destroyer to revive itself, it needs people in Gerson's position to examine their consciences and stop being hypocrites. A good place to start would be for him to address the shocking statements made by white Christian preachers over the air waves every day. Some researchers are worried that digitally altered photos could alter our perceptions and memories of public events.

"It’s potentially a form of human engineering that could be applied to us against our knowledge and against our wishes, and we ought to be vigilant about it," said UC Irvine psychologist Elizabeth Loftus, who designed the study. "With the addition of a few little upsetting and arousing elements in the Rome protest photo, people remembered this peaceful protest as being more violent than it was, and as a society we have to figure how we can regulate this."

Mailer died of acute renal failure at the age of 84.

News of the loss of one of America’s most unique voices, Norman Mailer, rippled through the literary community Saturday after Mailer’s biographer announced that the author of “The Armies of the Night” and “The Naked and the Dead” had expired at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital.

The 1970s: “The decade in which image became pre-eminent because nothing deeper was going on.”

Poetry: A “natural activity ... a poem comes to one,” whereas prose required making “an appointment with one’s mind to write a few thousand words.”

Technology: “Insidious, debilitating and depressing,” and nobody in politics had an answer to “its impact on our spiritual well-being.”

Just two of 15 senior Edwards staffers are women, with women filling 37 percent of the top-paid roles. Three of Obama’s 12 senior staffers are women, and women fill 45 percent of the highest-paying jobs. […] On her campaign, eight of 14 senior staffers, 12 of the top-20 staffers, and 52 percent of the highest-paid staffers are women. Women are also much more likely to play important strategic roles in the Clinton campaign; in the other campaigns, women are more likely to work in finance and internal operations.

This may seem like petty stuff, but I think it foreshadows the gender breakdown of executive staff under a Clinton administration. As I’ve written before, gender matters. Women understand, and care about, women’s interests, which is one reason many women are supporting Clinton despite reservations about her politics.

A billboard put up and paid for by self-proclaimed "true American" John McCombs in Florida is drawing fire but not for reasons you might think. It's not that Bay Minette has a strong pro-Hugo Chavez lobby, it's that the billboard's choice of language is offensive. Don't Buy Gas from This Ass is the most intelligent response McCombs could come up with after Chavez said Bush was the devil and made nice with Iran. But locals aren't happy with seeing "ass" everyday. They have complained to the city about the sign to try and get it removed. Just as smart is the placement of the billboard. It's right near a BP station.
