NoteTab Light — Free Version — I built this web site with this program (every single incarnation of this site, including the current version, stylesheets and all).
Go to the NoteTab website.

Sonar — Free (donations accepted) — Created by the creator of yWriter, this handy program tracks submissions better than a spreadsheet.
Go to the Sonar website.

EverNote — Freeware — EverNote is a fantastic notekeeping program that makes keeping up with notes and research for multiple projects an absolute breeze. Highly recommended for all writers. More of my comments on Evernote.

WordWeb — Free Version — WordWeb is a thesaurus and dictionary that can integrate with other programs or run as a standalone program.

TreePad Lite — Freeware — Great for notes, detailed lists, character and scene sketches, or just anything at all. I've created a story note organizer for TreePad. It's a simple document in the TreePad format that can be used as a template to help you organize all those documents that invariably accumulate as you work on your most recent novel(s). It also lets you keep track of submissions and rejections. Download my template story_note_organizer.hjt (right click and choose "save target as" or "save link as").
Go to the TreePad website.

Atheists need to remember what they stand for, not merely what they are against. Ridicule and contempt have no place in science, and haters should not tarnish its reputation by association.
In the words of the greatest consciousness raiser of the 20th century, Martin Luther King, Jr., in his epic "I Have a Dream" speech: "In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline."

If atheists do not want theists to prejudge them in a negative light, then they must not do unto theists the same.

Clip Source: www.sciam.com

Anti-something movements by themselves will fail.

Atheists cannot simply define themselves by what they do not believe.

Positive assertions are necessary.

Champion science and reason, as Charles Darwin suggested: “It appears to me (whether rightly or wrongly) that direct arguments against Christianity & theism produce hardly any effect on the public

Rational is as rational does.

It is irrational to take a hostile or condescending attitude toward religion because by doing so we virtually guarantee that religious people will respond in kind.

The golden rule is symmetrical.

If atheists do not want theists to prejudge them in a negative light, then they must not do unto theists the same.

Promote freedom of belief and disbelief.

As long as religion does not threaten science and freedom, we should be respectful and tolerant because our freedom to disbelieve is inextricably bound to the freedom of others to believe.

Tags: atheists, atheism, secular, humanism, science, religion, civility, extremism, freedom, belief

<clipSource>http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?chanID=sa006&colID=13&articleID=423C1809-E7F2-99DF-384721C9252B924A</clipSource>

Why Did The Chicken Cross The Road?

clipped by: missangelyss
clipper's remarks: I had a gigglefest over this page. "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."

Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore's Dilemma.

In his new book, "In Defense of Food," what Michael Pollan advocates is nothing less than a wholesale rejection of the
modern American food chain. It's a radical proposal in a time when
"cooking from scratch and growing any of your own food qualify as
subversive acts." Pollan argues convincingly that in recent decades, we have shifted from the traditional diets of our ancestors to what he calls the "western diet" - industrialized food, reconstituted, repackaged and redefined to conform with the latest whims of nutritional science.

It is a red shift that Pollan believes has set us adrift in a
"treacherous food environment," bereft of "cultural tools to guide us
through it." All this has brought us increased obesity, high blood
pressure and diabetes along with the troubling paradox that "the more
we worry about nutrition the less healthy we become."

Tags: food, real food

<clipSource>http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2008/01/in-defense-of-f.html</clipSource>

Pick The Elitist

clipped by: BartendingBear
clipper's remarks: It isn't difficult.

Clip Source: s367.photobucket.com

<clipSource>http://s367.photobucket.com/albums/oo113/amk123amk/?action=view&current=elitist2.gif</clipSource>

Definition of LIfe

clipped by: zizzy

Clip Source: www.thedailystar.net

What is life ? egoldstein
clipper's remarks: In trying to resolve the difference between her actions and her words when it comes to earmarks, i'm thinking that she may be confusing earmarks with Clipmarks.

To the best of my knowledge, Palin has never supported Clipmarks. So, maybe that's what she's referring to and the word "ear" just keeps magically replacing the "clip".

Cause the facts sure seem to suggest that she supported earmarks before she decided to say she didn't.

Clip Source: politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com

In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in earmarks, and in a Fairbanks newspaper column earlier this year, she wrote that federal monies, including earmarks, are “incredibly important” to the state. Palin also helped secure millions of dollars in federal money for her hometown of Wasilla while she was mayor.

Nevertheless, Palin told the outdoor audience in Ohio — many of whom came out in spite of the rain – that she was a champion of earmark reform in Alaska.

Tags: palin, earmarks, politics

<clipSource>http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/09/palin-stays-firm-on-bridge-to-nowhere-claim/</clipSource>

Yoga for your Face

clipped by: BobbyDelray
clipper's remarks: Go ahead and laugh. "Negotiations were tough, but I think both Microsoft and the Prince of Darkness are happy with this deal."

Microsoft already controls 15% of the evil market, and with this purchase that number nears 100%. The Department of Justice voiced concerns over one corporation controlling so much evil, and launched investigations.

"We feel that there are real opportunities with evil, and that when evil is integrated into our next generation of Windows products consumers will appreciate evil on their desktop," said Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates. "Businesses haven't been able to fully realize their evil potential. With evil integrated into Office XP, corporations big and small will begin to see enhanced evil productivity."

"Evil is a real growing market," market strategist Frank Dresgan of Merrill Lynch explained. "Microsoft is a little late in the game, but even when they enter a market late they still tend to dominate. I think we'll see the same results with evil."

"I've been dealing with Microsoft for some time," Lucifer said. "I've been at this evil thing for millions of years, and wanted a way out. I considered an IPO, but then Steve-O and Billy came along and told me about their 'Evil Everywhere' plan. I just couldn't refuse."

Evil was founded by Satan close to the beginning of time. It has been growing steadily ever since, although most of the growth has accelerated in the past five years with the development of the Internet. Satan plans to retire to a small island in the Bahamas and write a column for the local newspaper.

More Microsoft News

Recommend this Story to a Friend

Tags: humor

<clipSource>http://bbspot.com/News/2000/4/MS_Buys_Evil.html</clipSource>

Disbelief over 9/11 - at last

clipped by: firebird
clipper's remarks: Finally this issue of immeasurable importance is moving from the internet into the main stream media. If the idea that this was a self-inflicted strikes you as unbelievable, then do some careful research on the internet, with an open mind, and be prepared to have your beliefs challenged. If that is not convincing, read one of the three books on the subject by the academic and theologian David Ray Griffin.
Let's hope this year the truth begins to be more widely disseminated. It is hard to watch Loose Change (easy to get on the internet) without concluding something is very amiss.

Clip Source: www.dailymail.co.uk

An explosion of disbelief - fresh doubts over 9/11

The official story of what
happened on 9/11 never fails to
shock. Four American airliners
are hijacked by Osama Bin
Laden's terrorists in an attack
on the heart of the Western
world on September 11, 2001.

Two are deliberately flown into New York's
famous Twin Towers, which collapse. A third
rams into the United States defence headquarters
at the Pentagon, in Washington D.C.

Or that's how the official story goes.

Yet today, more than five years on, this
accepted version of what happened on 9/11 is
being challenged by a 90-minute internet
movie made for £1,500 on a cheap laptop by
three young American men. The film is so
popular that up to 100 million viewers have
watched what is being dubbed the first
internet blockbuster.

Called Loose Change, the film is a blitz of statistics,
photographs pinched from the web,
eyewitness accounts and expert testimony, all
set to hip-hop music. And it is dramatically
changing the way people think about 9/11.

A recent poll by the respected New York
Times revealed that three out of four Americans
now suspect the U.S. government of not
telling the truth about 9/11. This proportion
has shot up from a year ago,
when half the population said
they did not believe the official
story of an Al Qaeda attack.
