Monster octopi with scores of extra tentacles

In nature, it is quite rare to encounter octopi with extra tentacles (or “arms,” for the purists), but a pair of aquariums in Japan’s Mie prefecture have some extraordinary specimens on hand.

The permanent display at the Shima Marineland Aquarium in the town of Shima includes a 96-tentacled Common Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) that weighed 3.3 kilograms (about 7 lbs) and measured 90 centimeters (3 ft) long when it was captured in nearby Matoya Bay in December 1998. Before dying 5 months later, the creature laid eggs, making it the first known extra-tentacled octopus to do so in captivity. All the baby octopi hatched with the normal number of tentacles, but unfortunately they only survived a month.

clipper's remarks: Like America, we had out War of Independence followed by a bloody Civil War on the issue of independence. This was also in common with many other states that gained independence.

We didn't gain full independence until 1948 when we took it without a shot being fired. We did lose 6 of our 9 counties of Ulster, our northern providence. Hopefully some day our "four green fields" will be reunited peacefully.

By Bush&Co's definition all our leaders would have been terrorists like Nelson Mandela, just like your own revered insurrectionists/freedom fighters/terrorists/founding fathers. Meet the curious "M.01," otherwise known as the Car for Paris 2030.

It's described by its designer Ashley Chichocki as exploring "what is really necessary in a vehicle," and as such it addresses a major issue that cities are facing even today: parking.

The M.01 is made of elastic fabrics stretched over a pneumatic framework. When it's in motion, the two-seater car spreads out, giving its passengers more room. After everyone's out, the car contracts in on itself for easy, ultra compact parking that'll also allow several M.01s to stack against one another.

Watches may be going out of style a bit due to the fact that most people carry around cellphones that can tell time just as well, but that doesn't mean Timex is going to stop trying to come up with new reasons for you to give them money. In fact, they just had a design contest to help them come up with forward-thinking watch ideas.

This Nail Watch entry is, well, interesting. It's designed to slip over your thumbnail, letting you tell the time just by glancing down at your hand.

You can light it up or change the mode by pressing down on the end of your thumbnail. I'm not sure what magical technologies would have to be used to create this, nor do I know how it stays on your thumbnail, but I do know that this is certainly unlike any watch I've ever seen. Whether or not it'll ever actually exist is another question entirely.

Foul

1 (15 ounce) can fava beans
3 chopped garlic cloves
2-3 tablespoons tahini
1 lemon
water
salt
olive oil
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)
1-2 teaspoon chopped jalapeno (optional)

Drain water from beans, rinse beans, then place on stove top and bring to boil.

Mean while place garlic, and jalepeno in bowl, and mash the two of them.

Drain boiled beans, and add on top of garlic and mash untill you get a thick paste.

add lemon juice and tahini, mix together.

gradually add water until mix becomes to a good consistency.

salt to taste, and stir in optional parsley, or leave to decorate the top of the foul.

place foul in plate, and add olive oil on top. serve with warm pita. Enjoy.

In his acoustic translation, harmony represents good health, and discord indicates disease.
