"But the scariest thing is how the Puteri Umno motion was passed without debate. An important call such as this should have warranted a little more scrutiny. If the Government were to accede to their request, then it is all Malaysians, who will suffer. Not just Muslims.

Movies like the Harry Potter films will not be screened. Lord of the Rings, and even The Wizard of Oz will have to be banned. And what about science fiction films? Alien, Predator and others, may be full of horror, or lack unexplained traditional elements, and thus, will not fit in any religious teaching."

In short - ban fucking everything. Would that make 'em happy?

One outcome of the Puteri Umno general assembly was a call for the Government to ban the production of “horror, mystical and superstitious” movies. It was claimed that films of this genre could weaken the faith of Muslims in the country.

The movement also wanted the authorities to issue a similar ban on all foreign movies of such genres, and also to empower the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to take action against such productions.

Now, if watching a scary movie is enough to weaken the religious faith of a person, then something is wrong somewhere.

The precedent of banning films, of this specific genre, may set an unhealthy trend.

It will stifle creativity and imagination. It may stop some of us from reading books. It will smother interest, or curiosity.

So I repeat, might it be films today, and books tomorrow?

PUTERI Umno wants the Government to ban the production of horror, mystical and superstitious movies, claiming such films can weaken the faith of the Muslims in the country.

The movement also wants the authorities to empower the Islamic Development Depart-ment (Jakim) to take action against such productions.

The call is contained in one of the motions that were passed without debate at the movement’s general assembly yesterday.

“In view of the widespread screening of ghosts, superstitious and mystical movies, we urge the Government to empower Jakim to ban their production as they do not carry any positive message, but instead may destroy the faith,” it said.

PAS wants to ban U.S. pop star Beyonce Knowles from performing in Malaysia, arguing western entertainers like her promoted hedonism.

"We are against western entertainment that promotes hedonism. We do not want our youth to be misled," Ahmad Sabki, vice-president of PAS Youth, told the NST.

The Islamist PAS is the second largest Malay political party in Malaysia, where conservatives still dominate in the mostly-Muslim country of 27 million people, especially in the rural areas.

Beyonce is due to perform in the Bukit Jalil Stadium on Oct 25. If she is allowed to do so, it will be her first concert here, as part of her global tour.

Noisy demonstrations by PAS Youth members had forced Beyonce to cancel a scheduled 2007 performance.

Last year, the party sought to prevent Canadian singer Avril Lavigne from performing. It has also protested against European pop group Michael Learns To Rock and earlier this month, Muslims were initially banned from attending a concert by The Black Eyed Peas.

Pahang Sultan urges support for BN government

KUALA KRAU, Sept 24 – The Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, has called on the people to continue supporting the government so that more social, economic and educational developments would be implemented for them.

Lightning zaps Kuantan High Court

KUANTAN, Sept 24 – The High Court Complex here was engulfed in smoke early today when lightning struck its air-conditioning main switchboard.

If those involved in the said 'cow-head protests' are to be charged in court they should be charged under section 298 and/or 298A of the Penal Code - not for illegal assembly...definitely not under the Sedition Act.

We have been calling for the repeal of all laws that criminalize freedom of assembly..., and that is why we must not at all be happy that the Attorney General have decided the said cow-head protesters under Section 27(5) of the Police Act 1967 for illegal assembly - we must protest this.

The Prime Minister has called on Malaysians to “repair the bridges and tear down the divisive walls” that exist among the races.

In his National Day message, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said opportunistic people had exploited the friction among the people to cause the bridges, which were painstakingly built by the nation’s founding fathers, to become shaky.

Najib said these groups were exploiting the slip lines that existed in society, be they political, religious or social, to satisfy their narrow agenda.

Selangor mosque committee officers - imam, nazir, bilal and siak - are now empowered to arrest Muslims drinking alcohol in public places, said Selangor executive councillor for religious matters Dr Hassan Ali.

He said they could also arrest Muslims selling and storing alcohol beverages.

The officers were also empowered to arrest Muslims who commit offences deemed disrespectful in the month of Ramadan.

Hassan Ali said that more than 1,500 officers would be briefed on the relevant enactments so that they understood how to enforce the law properly, including gathering enough evidence, before bringing the suspects to Syariah Court.

Online and wire agency reports that the Government is mulling an Internet filtering system similar to China’s controversial “Green Dam” project has got the local online community in a huff, while technology experts questioned the viability of the project.

Online portals and wire agencies reported earlier Thursday that the Government has called for a tender for a system that could block “undesirable websites.”

Information, Communication and Culture Minister Rais Yatim, whose ministry issued the tender, also plans to secure direct control over the content and monitoring division of Malaysia’s Internet regulator, Reuters quoted a source as saying.

Rais himself said last month that he would introduce measures to “control the bad” elements on the Internet.

Women file for divorce over hubbies’ unusual sex drive

TWO women have filed for divorce on grounds that their husbands’ unusual sex drive is linked to black magic, reports Metro Ahad.

“The riddle to the husband’s unnatural sex drive was answered when a relative of the wife saw the husband in the house when the family had seen him left for work earlier.

“The relative heard the husband’s voice in the bedroom and upon checking, found an ‘individual’ in the room looking exactly like the husband,” he said.

In the other case, Perubatan Islam Mustajab specialist Nazri Md Isa said an 18-year-old woman had filed for fasakh after her husband asked her for sex more than 10 times a day.

Religious leader Datuk Abu Hasan Din Al-Hafiz claimed that it was not impossible for a man to have sex many times in one night if he was “friendly with the devil”.

Burma's junta has refused to allow visiting UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to meet jailed opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Mr Ban was told of the refusal when he held a second round of talks with military leader Gen Than Shwe.

"I'm deeply disappointed," he told reporters. "I'm very sorry to report to you that this is not possible."

Mr Ban said he had been assured that elections planned for 2010 would be "held in a fair, free and transparent manner".

The UN chief is due to make a speech outlining his vision for Burma later on Saturday.

In one of its first acts after usurping the will of the Iranian people, the government of Mahmud Ahmedinejad has banned a rally by the supporters of Mir Hussain Mousavi, the man from whom they stole it. If there was any doubt about the sham nature of the Iranian elections, this first act by the Islamic Republic should remove it.

Results leaked by the staff at the Ministry of Interior suggest that not only did Mousavi win the first round of the elections, the incumbent Ahmedinejad came in third, behind second=place Karoubi.

The question then remains, why does the Islamic Republic go through this charade every four years?

Out of above 2,000 candidates who aspired to be president, , only four were declared qualified by the "Shoray Negahban" - the so-called Council of Guardians of the Constitution.

The outcasts rejected and barred from running included women, religious minorities, leftist, and some liberal-nationalists.

Information, Communication and Culture Minister Rais Yatim has come under fire in the local media for using a Tadau Ka'amatan visit in recent days to drum up support for Barisan Nasional at the expense of the goodwill generated for the harvest festival.

"His allegation that some people were sowing discord in Sabah and Sarawak and that this needs to be thwarted came at a bad time," said PKR deputy state chief Daniel John Jambun.

"He knew that we were in the festive month of Ka'amatan and yet he chose to come here and make such an ignorant remark. The people and all leaders, both from the government and opposition were celebrating the season together in the spirit of joy, peace and togetherness.

"It was not an appropriate time to start throwing accusations. He can be accused of the very same thing when he uses words like 'sowing discord' and other terms like disharmony, disunity and making trouble," he added in a statement.

Khalid Samad admits overlooking Sisters in Islam resolution

Shah Alam PAS head Khalid Samad today admitted his mistake of overlooking the resolution by the division to ban Sisters in Islam, which has drawn strong reaction from various quarters.

At the specially held press conference here to explain the issue, Khalid said that before the general assembly, he had identified certain unsuitable words in the resolution which were deemed sensitive.

Hence, he said, he asked the Dewan Muslimat or women's wing of Shah Alam PAS to submit the resolution for correction so as to be in tune with contemporary Islamic propagation concept, during a special meeting on April 23 to discuss the division's resolutions to the general assembly.

Asked whether he had accepted SIS' demand for an apology over the controversial resolution, Khalid said he would need to apologise to the party first for the mistake.

Umno will harness the power of the new media to attract the young towards the party but not in the way the opposition has been using them to undermine leaders of other parties.

Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan said the strategy would be among the steps he would take in the efforts to woo the young towards Umno apart from holding face-to-face meetings to get an insight into their aspirations for the party.

"We will speak their language because they are now speaking in the new media terms like blogs and Facebook, but in doing so we will say the truth.

"It's only that the society is now more critical and exposed to all types of information.

"We, therefore, need to go deeper in understanding them... to think about how we can attract a generation that is exposed the free-flowing of information," he said.
