"I am a Muslim first, lawyer second; I am Muslim first, MP second," asserted PKR Kulim Bandar Baru parliamentarian Zulkifli Noordin today, breaking his silence for the first time after fronting the commotion which disrupted the Bar Council's ‘Conversion to Islam' forum on Aug 9.

"It is not right... for me Islam comes first, a party member second. If you attack Islam I'll be there," he exerted.

"When you talk about the sensitivity of others you should have it behind closed doors and invite those of authority. You don't invite every Tom, Dick and Harry to talk about Islam.

"You cannot look at the forum in isolation and say that they are having a forum, talking about some rights because you look at the background of the Bar Council... they have been very consistent with their anti-Islam stand," said Zulkifli.

"You have a misleading fact. There was no question of us stopping the forum. They have already discussed with the police to stop it... it's not because of us.

PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim will be brought before Sessions judge SM Komathy at the Jalan Duta court complex 10am today to be charged with having carnal intercourse against the order of nature.

The police have put the entire court complex under heavy security, with police personnel lining up along the roads leading to the complex, as well as within the complex itself.

At least seven police and Federal Reserve Unit trucks are seen in the court parking area.

Similarly the police have also mounted several roadblocks in certain parts of the city, causing massive gridlocks in all main arteries that enter the city centre.

BUTTERWORTH: The threat posed by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the nation is even greater than the impact of the current world economic crisis.

Former PKR Youth chief Mohamed Ezam Mohd Nor said Anwar was willing to compromise the country’s political and economic stability to pursue his political ambitions.

Ezam labelled Anwar a “traitor” to the Malays because he was also willing to do away with the New Economic Policy and bumiputra special privileges as long as he received support from the non-Malays.

“Anwar has now shown his true colours. He is a man who cannot be trusted and I hope the Malays will fight him by rejecting him in the coming by-election in Permatang Pauh,” he said.

Fans of controversial Indonesian singer Inul Daratista will be disappointed as Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has cancelled her concert permit at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil.

According to Star, concert organiser Nasir Abu Bakar of IMS Prima Sdn Bhd said he was disappointed with the decision because the Central Committee for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artiste had given the green light for the event.

“We received the directive from DBKL to cancel the concert due to national security. If that is the reason, there is nothing else I can say,” he told the media.

Dangdut songstress Inul - famous for her gelek gerudi (drilling gyration) hip movements - had previously performed in the country last year as well as in 2005.

Inul's concert in Johor Baru was recently cancelled by the Johor Baru authorities barely 24 hours before show time after numerous complaints from Johor PAS and other religious groups.

The youth wing of opposition Islamic party today slammed an upcoming concert by an Indonesian songstress, saying her hip-swivelling dance moves were "too sexy and immoral."

Kuala Lumpur PAS youth chief Kamaruzaman Mohamad said party workers would distribute about 20,000 pamphlets to discourage youths from watching Inul Darastita's concert on Sunday at the Bukit Jalil sports stadium.

"This concert not only promotes un-Islamic values, it is also a very immoral showmanship and even non-Muslims would agree with me," he told AFP.

Days after the political tsunami swept across the nation on March 8, Umno president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo and PAS leaders huddled together in a building in Kuala Lumpur for a secret meeting.

The official agenda was to discuss issues concerning Islam and the Malays.

But according to a PAS leader who attended the two-hour meeting two or three days after the general elections which saw the ruling Barisan Nasional losing five states, the main topic was the possibility of power sharing.

PAS committee member Abdul Khalid Samad told Malaysiakini that Khir (left) had proposed during the meeting that Umno and PAS form a joint government to rule Selangor.

The 12-hour poll which went live immediately after the debate ended at 10pm revealed that almost 96 percent of Malaysiakini readers believed that Anwar did far better than Information Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

A total of 18,684 readers had participated in the poll, of which 17,240 or 95 percent said Anwar was more convincing in his arguments.

Interestingly, while Anwar was seen as the clear winner in the debate, a majority of readers (57 percent) said he had the most rehearsed answers.

Shabery appeared to win in that department for apparently referring less on his prepared notes.

However, 90 percent of readers believed that the information minister had avoided most of the questions put by the moderator and two other panelists.

And when it comes to how the two debaters fared on a scale of 1 to 10, Anwar appeared to have outclassed Shabery.

The hour-long debate was the first time that a government minister was pitted against an opposition leader live on television.

Private investigator P Balasubramaniam has made shocking claims that Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had links with murdered Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu.

He revealed that Najib had also informed his close associate Abdul Razak Baginda that Inspector General of Police Musa Hassan was 'taking care' of the murder case which implicated Abdul Razak.

He further revealed that his evidence linking Najib to the murdered Mongolian was removed by the police and prosecutors during the murder trial - a move seen to protect the DPM

The former special branch officer also revealed that Abdul Razak had SMSed Najib on the day he was arrested over Altantuya's killing and had received a reply stating, “I am seeing IGP at 11.00 am today … matter will be solved … be cool”, from Najib indicating that the matter will be taken care by the IGP.

"Anwar is a tukang lapor (snitch) to America. Every time when something happens, he reports to the US," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

"I thought he wants to be our country’s leader ... why ask advice from foreign countries?" he added.

Yesterday, US State Department spokesperson Tom Casey cautioned that US would oppose any politically motivated investigation or prosecution of Anwar.

Noting that Anwar had previously faced similar charges and that his conviction was ultimately overturned, Casey said: "So, we would hope that there’s not a pattern here."

At a separate press conference, DAP chairperson Karpal Singh said US should be given its right to air its view on any matter.

Karpal said US is concerned about Anwar’s case after what happened in 1998.

"The (Malaysian) government should not forget they are being watched by other countries ... A lot of other countries are watching us, we are not in isolation.

Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin wants the Home Affairs Ministry to disallow open forums discussing the social contract and Ketuanan Melayu (Malay Supremacy).

He said such forums could inflame racial feelings among the Malays as the matter had been accepted by all and had become history.

“We are not trying to curb the freedom of any group but an open forum on Ketuanan Melayu could hurt the Malays if politicised.

“I fear if such a forum is held, it can touch on sensitive issues and can also violate the Sedition Act,” he said said when commenting on Bar Council forum.

A police report is expected to be lodged against the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General this morning over their alleged misconduct during Anwar Ibrahim's trials in 1998-1999.

Lawyers acting for the PKR de facto leader are expected to lodge the report.

Yesterday Anwar had said that he had evidence implicating IGP Musa Hassan and AG Abdul Gani Patail in misconduct, including fabrication of evidence in the cases launched against him after his sacking from the government in 1998.

He added that a fresh police report lodged against him for sodomy was a result of "interested parties to attack me in retaliation" over this evidence in his possession.

The report alleging sodomy was filed by Anwar's aide, 23-year-old Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, yesterday.

Anwar yesterday had claimed that the accusation against him was fabricated. PKR also said that Saiful was arrested and forced by the police to lodge such a report against Anwar.

A police report has been lodged against PKR

de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim for allegedly sodomosing one of his aides - the second time that such an accusation had been made in over 10 years.

The report was lodged by the 23-year-old victim at the Jalan Travers police station at 6pm.

At 11.15pm, PKR sent out an SMS message stating that the police had detained Anwar's special aide Saiful Bahari this afternoon and forced him to lodge a police report about being sodomised by his boss.

It added that the police are expected to arrest Anwar soon.

Meanwhile, Anwar is expected to comment on this latest crisis at a pre-arranged press conference tomorrow.

KUALA LUMPUR: Don't be surprised if some petrol stations do not accept payment by credit cards any more.

The Petroleum Dealers Association has sent notices to its 3,500 members nationwide, advising them to accept only cash from motorists who fill up their tanks from today.

Association president Abdul Wahid Bidin said following the increase in fuel prices, petrol station operators could no longer be burdened by the charges imposed on them by credit card companies.

"It is a business decision. After the fuel price hike, petrol station operators have to cut costs."

He said some of the stations had stopped accepting credit cards since yesterday.
However, as stated in the association's notices, each petrol station operator would have the final say on whether or not to accept credit cards.

"While our members have agreed not to accept credit cards, there might be some who will accept them. But we hope all members will cooperate with us."

PAS Youth is keen on implementing hardline Islamic laws that ban gambling, limiting sale of liquor and introducing dress code for office workers in all Pakatan-ruled states.

In taking the first step towards introducing such laws, PAS Youth will organise a seminar in August to discuss the possibility of doing so.

The movement’s deputy chief Azman Shapawi Abdul Rani said that committees to study the proposal would be established in Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor.

“We are aware that it is not going to be easy in states like Penang and Perak where PAS is a minority but we will push for it,” said Azman, according to Bernama.

Azman said that the proposed laws would not negatively affect non-Muslims despite the proposals directly touching on gambling, liquor and dress codes.
