This is a video of a homeless guy in Santa Barbara and his pets. You can see these guys every week working State St. for donations.

The animals, as you can see, are pretty well fed, and they are a family.

The man who owns them rigged a harness up for his cat so she wouldn’t have to walk so much (like the dog and himself). At some juncture the rat came along, and as no one wanted to eat anyone else, the rat started riding with the cat and often, on the cat! The dog will stand all day and let you talk to him and admire his altruistic, we are one, personality for a few chin scratches.

The Mayor of Santa Barbara filmed this clip and sent it out as a Christmas card.

Frozen tidalwaves in the Antarctic

Camille Allen -British Columbia, Canada makes baby dolls out of clay…would you believe it…? She learned this art of creating realistic miniature dolls of baby infants from her husband’s grandmother just over 5 years ago….

Starting from detailed photographs and a lump of professional clay such as Cernit or Prosculpt., sculpting a lifesize or miniature baby begins. It takes many, many hours of patient concentration to form a realistic baby and finish with fine details - including wrinkles and fingernails...she says.

Tree Man

32-year-old Dede, an Indonesian villager, is dubbed the “Tree Man.” He has woody growths on his hands that make him unfit for any kind of work except to feature as a “freak.”

Anthony Gaspari, a dermatologist from the University of Maryland, examined Dede as part of the documentary.

He believes the massive growths are a combination of the human papilloma virus, which causes warts, and a genetic disorder that means his immune system is too weak to fight them off.

Gaspari said he was in negotiations with a US pharmaceutical company to provide Dede with an ongoing supply of vitamin A, which would hopefully boost his immune system and hinder the growth of the warts.

“My initial plan would be to send medication to Indonesia to a local doctor to administer,” he said. “If it doesn’t work I won’t have any choice but to try to get him over here.”

This quote by Dwight David Eisenhower 1890-1969(America’s 34th President (1953-61) echoes my sentiments on the futility of war. Steven Meisel raises the same questions in this fantastic post titled Make Love Not War for the blog paintalicious.org ( some images are NSFW)

In the September 2007 issue of Italian vogue, fashion photographer Steven Meisel (the man behind Madonna’s controversial Sex book) stirs up controversy with his glamorized imagery of the war in Iraq. His ‘Make Love Not War’ series (mostly) depicts sweaty, dirty soldiers in the middle of a war-zone interacting with models in a very “heated fashion” Apparently, claims are being made by ‘Women In Media and News’ suggesting this series of photographs are pornographic and evoke sexualizations of horrific situations, also saying that violence is erotic. Am quiet certain everyone would agree by this “surface” reading, but is that the point of the message? What do they mean to you? Check out the rest.
