Till some time ago, the website said, call the Police at 999 or the SCDF, which is the Singapore civil defence force at 995 in case of an explosion.

Yeah, yeah.” When you purchase something that requires delivery they do not have an address line, but a box where you are expected to draw a map. Not able to draw a map? Explain like this: I live on the street after the airport road, but before the roundabout. Go past the mosque and make a U-turn.

Is China preparing for war with U.S.?

All eyes in Washington are focused on the Middle East as the war there continues, the troop surge in Iraq nears its climax and the ever-elusive Osama bin Laden, assuming he’s still alive, continues to evade capture. Iran is rattling its sword and the hawks in Washington are demanding satisfaction. The 2008 election countdown has started and politicians on both sides of the aisle have begun the traditional blame game of finger pointing, name calling and jockeying for political advantage. The American political process is once again paralyzed by the politicians’ lust to retain power. Forget the business of running the nation; there’s an election to be won! And so it will go until November of next year.

The deal, according to free-trade, free-market conservatives, went like this:

Allow WalMart (and other super-discount stores) to devastate local, small businesses because,
Such large retailers bring economies of scale, lower prices and create more new jobs than the jobs lost in the once locally owned retail sector.
Allow these WalMart-types to import unlimited goods from cheap labor countries like China, even though doing so destroys high-paying US manufacturing jobs, because...
US workers must adjust to compete in the new global economy and, even though their once high-paying manufacturing jobs will be replaced with lower-paying service sector jobs - like those $10/hr. Jobs at WalMart -- they won't feel the pain because...
US workers will be able to buy the imported stuff for so much less at WalMart.

The sailing stones, also referred to as sliding rocks or moving rocks, are a geological phenomenon found in Racetrack Playa, Death Valley. The stones slowly move across the surface of the playa, leaving a track as they go, without human or animal intervention. They have never been seen or filmed in motion and are not unique to The Racetrack. Similar rock travel patterns have been recorded in several other playas in the region but the number and length of travel groves on The Racetrack are notable.

Google Says, "Goodbye Purchased Google Videos"

Word on the Web is Google are shutting down their—not so hot—premium service branch of Google Video. This would not be a big deal if upon closing any content that was purchased still remained playable—but this is a big deal because any purchased content will be rendered useless when Goggle sticks the knife in on August 15, 2007.

You may be thinking that no one actually purchased from Google Video, but contrary to popular belief that is not true. At least one person did, (Tom over at CNET) and we suspect there will be a few more disgruntled customers, too. Tom at CNET received an email yesterday detailing Google's big plan:

If any of you guys'n'gals have had a similar experience, drop us a line and let us know how you got on. For the cheeky line, "Your bonus expires in 60 days," Google earns itself Gizmodo's Audacity Award. (It's new, but they deserved it).

Picking up women has been getting plenty of press these days, leading up to this week’s premiere of the VH1 reality show The Pick-Up Artist. The show follows eight “socially inept” men through an eight-week boot camp on seduction techniques, led by a self-proclaimed Lothario called “Mystery.” The headliner (whose real name is Erik Von Markovik) initially found fame after being profiled in Neil Strauss’s 2005 book The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists, and went on to co-write his own book, How to Get Beautiful Women Into Bed: The Mystery Method.

The results showed that men who piled on the insults (particularly those in the “derogating value as partner/mental capacity” group) were far more likely to engage in mate retention behaviors, suggesting that “men’s partner-directed insults may be deployed as part of a broader strategy of mate retention.”
