Speeding Up FireFox When Using the ASP.NET Development Server from Localhost

The problem was I noticed that Firefox was loading pages very slowly. I'd visit a site through localhost (via the ASP.NET Development Web Server) and pages would take several seconds to load.

Firebug will show you the total number of network resources downloaded when visiting a page, along with the time it took to download each.

Each resource - from the 4KB HTML fiel to the 7KB JPG file, was taking close to a FULL second to retrieve!

I next opened Internet Explorer - the same pages loaded instantaneously.

Turns out that there is a known issue with Firefox's IPv6 support and the ASP.NET Web Development Server that introduces these lengthy delays.

Consequently, to fix this problem of slow response times when visiting localhost using Firefox, either set the network.dns.diableIPv6 configuration property to true or set the network.dns.ipv4OnlyDomains configuration property to “localhost”.

Gmail's anti-spam technology, its thread messages, and its general simplicity has made it quite simply the best webmail service around. But I think we can all agree - Google's design team is either incredibly lazy or extremely concerned with making sure old people, and people still using Netscape can check their email. To be frank - it's ugly and looks very outdated. Here is a Gmail design that I deem appropriate for a service of such quality. I am calling this project Gmail redesigned.

I am in the process of working on this style almost daily, so it's highly recommended you update it often if you want to keep up with the latest features and improvements. Or wait until I make an announcement saying that all the major features are now working correctly. Gmail has over 1500 different styles and a very complicated structure. This style will take some time to finish.

Configuration Mania is a powerful addon for both Firefox 2 and the Firefox 3 Beta 4 that does a lot for being such a little addition to the browser. I am really impressed by this little jewel of an extension because it has just about every hidden away and forgotten about edit and modification you an make the browsing experience all in one place.

New tabs are opened from links and attached to the current tab. If you have tons of tabs open this will help you figure out which tab is associated with which topic you are browsing about.

Some of the features of Tree Style Tab include:

You can collapse/expand sub trees. It is convenient for too many tabs.
When you close a tab which has collapsed sub tree, all of tabs in the sub tree will be closed only one action.
The tree of tabs can be show in at right side.
Vertical tab bar cab be shown/hidden automatically.

So, if it is none of these things, what is going on? Why after a while do we end up using more memory than we should be if we aren't leaking and our caches are clear? At least part of it seems to be due to memory fragmentation.

Michael's twirling dancer link generated a lot of chatter, but this one seems even less fathomable to me

Michele's posted an image as an example of your brain messing with your head (as it were). In this image, the squares marked A and B are the same colour!

Don't believe me? I didn't either, so I snipped a small part of the image and placed it in Paint.

Still didn't look possible, so I drew a rectangle next to the image, split it in 2 and used the eye dropper tool to pick up the colour first from square A (and filled the left segment) and then from B (and filled the right segment).

As my son would say - "Freaky!"
