If she is right, it's a frightening truth. For millions of people feel they have no option but to struggle on alone. They do not choose solitude like the hermit, recluse or artist. Theirs is the punishment of solitary confinement which is the prisoner's torture.

The irony is that in this world of frenetic communication, more and more people feel there is nobody who wants to communicate with them at a meaningful level.

think of the electronic ether, zinging with messages and junk mail, billions upon billions of words and symbols, keeping people in touch as well as peddling everything from shoes to sex.

What does it add up to? What use are the multi-layers of "communication" when so many people have no feeling of belonging? We are deceived by communication. Mistaking it for community, we pay the price each day in a downward spiral of mental health.

He had waited 64 years to tell the story of something he had seen outside a small village in Alaska when he was a young man: a cigar-shaped craft with blue-green lights that flew over his head and disappeared into the mountains.
After hearing Davenport on the radio, Berg sought him out to tell him about the UFO. Four months later, in early 2001, Berg died at age 84.
His story, which Davenport captured on cassette, is the only record of the incident. If someone, anyone, ever wants to look into it for whatever reason, the tape and accompanying notes await in a safe place, in a city of file cabinets, under the desert."

Clip Source: www.latimes.com

"That door," he says with dramatic pause. "That door weighs 4,000 pounds. It's been reinforced to withstand a nuclear blast."

It is Davenport's door, which opens into a tunnel leading below ground to what was once a nuclear missile complex here in the desert of eastern Washington.

Davenport, longtime director of the National UFO Reporting Center, a nonprofit clearinghouse and 24-hour hotline for UFO sightings, bought it for $100,000 two years ago to turn into his new headquarters.

Why does a man buy an old windowless missile complex deep underground, only to spend his days tracking unidentified objects flying through the sky?

His life revolves around a question, namely: "Are we alone in the universe or are we not?" He believes there are clues behind the monstrous door that he now faces.

Clip Source: www.latimes.com

Clip Source: www.latimes.com

Not many people would waste their lives pursuing such an elusive subject," Davenport says on the drive home

Sometimes I don't know why I do it."

The front cover of renowned publication Time Magazine depicts a young man in a "hoodie" with mugshots of others across a Union Jack.

Its headline reads: "Unhappy, Unloved and Out of Control - An epidemic of violence, crime and drunkenness has made Britain scared of its young."

It also pours scorn upon the parenting abilities of the British, claiming they do not spend enough time with their children and cannot cope.

The magazine criticises our class-riven society, education system and binge-drinking culture.

"The boys and girls who casually pick fights, have sex and keep the emergency services fully occupied are often fuelled by cheap booze."
