The CIA relied on intelligence based on torture in prisons in Uzbekistan, a place where widespread torture practices include raping suspects with broken bottles and boiling them alive

Bread-bombing bird interrupts LHC cooling

Yep, it’s true: A bird dropped a baguette on some outdoor electrical equipment at the Large Hadron Collider on Tuesday, interrupting the cooling system that chills two sectors of the collider. CERN issued a statement today saying that the incident was similar to a power outage: failsafe systems came on, the cause was identified, and the two sectors are now back to normal operating temperatures.

According to the statement, the bird escaped unharmed but lost its bread.

Lithuanian President Announces Investigation into CIA Secret Prison

The president of Lithuania called for an official investigation Tuesday into an ABC News.com exclusive report in August that the CIA housed a secret prison for al Qaeda suspects in Lithuania for more than a year beginning in 2004.

"If this is true," President Dalia Grybauskaite said, "Lithuania has to clean up, accept responsibility, apologize, and promise that it will never happen again."

At a press conference with the Council of Europe Human Rights Commission, Grybauskaite announced the investigation after it was clear a previous attempt by the Lithuanian Parliament was insufficient, according to a Council of Europe official.

ABC News reported that the CIA built a secret prison in a residential section of Vilnius from September 2004 through November 2005

At Least 8 Shot In Downtown High-Rise

At least eight people were injured in a mass shooting inside a downtown Orlando high-rise just before noon Friday, according to the Orlando Fire Department.

The building is near Lake Ivanhoe.

All patients have been taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. At least four of the eight patients are serious trauma cases. The ORMC ER is closed to patients due to the shootings.

According to Orlando Fire Department District Chief Michael Droege, an unknown number of people are still in the building and could be injured. He said the SWAT team is still trying to pull people out of the building.

Orlando Fire Department spokeswoman Vicky Robles said a shooter has not been taken into custody.

"We don't know who they are," Robles said.

Inside Out Security Envelopes

getting a bill in the mail isn’t any fun, but you know what they say about lemons and lemonade, right?

we get tons of bills

with interesting security patterns printed on the insides. we’ve used them in various craft projects here and there, but one of our favorites requires practically no materials or skill and is a great way to whip up some unique and wonderful stationery.

Here’s what you’ll need:
-envelopes with printed interior security patterns
-letter opener or blade
-glue stick (tombow glue sticks are our favorite!)

1. Carefully de-construct your envelopes using your fingers, a letter opener or a blade, making sure not to rip the paper.

2. Unfold the envelope completely, and flip over so printed side is facing down. re-fold the envelope inside-out along the score lines and apply glue along any seams that overlap. to seal the envelopes, we put a little glue along the top edge and tucked it under the main envelope flap for a clean finish. done!

Simple and surefire rule. Trolls feed on your reactions. Ignore them.

Put comments under moderation.

This way you can approve or disapprove of inappropriate comments. Don’t be overly sensitive just because they go against what you stood for. Debate is healthy.

Ban them.

If you have persistent trolls, you might just want to block them. This way they will not be able to wreck havoc as they please.

If you remove a post, aren't you preventing free speech?

Discussion boards are by design a forum for open communication, a place where the community is encouraged to freely discuss its opinions. Only remove troll posts when they become disruptive to open communication.

A troll is actually silencing the voice of a majority of the community members. Ask the troll to take their comments elsewhere.

An Internet "troll" is a person who delights in sowing discord on the Internet.

Trolls see Internet communications services as convenient venues for their bizarre game.

For some reason, trolls do not feel they are bound by the rules of courtesy or social responsibility.

It would be nice if everybody was so easy-going, but the sad fact is that trolls do discourage people.

posters may leave a message board because of the arguments that trolls ignite, and lurkers (people who read but do not post) may decide that they do not want to expose themselves to abuse and thus never get involved.

The ultimate response to the 'free speech' argument is this: while we may have the right to say more or less whatever we want, we do not have the right to say it wherever we want.

One possibility is that when we’re in love we actually think differently.
