I had said to myself on numerous occasions, if Obama ever shows up in the proximity of my neighborhood, (take or leave a few hundred miles) I will go to see him in the flesh. Barack Obama, is like a dream come true for me and my fellow Democrats. He embodies for us, the reason we chose this party over the other big one and all of the smaller ones.
It's not easy being a Progressive, Populist Democrat, especially since the hypnotic propagandizing by Karl Rove, who mesmerized so many Americans with his hypocritical rhetoric that if you don't share his political neoconservative, ideology you are subhuman. Canada Refuses Stay to Resisters of an Illegal War

clipper's remarks: There are many people alive today because Canada gave them refuge from another felonious war so long ago in Vietnam. Now, they are turning their backs to resisters even though they themselves, decided not to fight an illegal war. Hmmm, I wonder why? In a free country, one should have the right to protest an unjust war but we are not a free country. The conscientious objectors have no where to turn.. They can't go back to their own country and Canada won't allow them to stay within their borders. Isn't it ironic that Bush and Cheney have illegally kidnapped and transported people out of different countries to deliver them for torture, abroad and have yet to receive punishment for their criminal actions. Yet a resister to an unlawful preempted war gets the book thrown at him. You must fight, and possibly die even if it is only for a neocon pipedream... Something is so wrong with this picture.
I sure hope President Bush enjoyed his game of golf today!

Canada refuses to allow Iraq war resister to stay

Corey Glass is now the first Iraq war deserter facing deportation from Canada. Last week his application to stay in the country was rejected. Lee Zaslofsky, National Coordinator of The War Resisters Campaign in Canada, says Corey's case is not unique. In December 2007, The Canadian House of Commons Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration passed a motion calling on the Canadian government to implement a program allowing conscientious objectors to apply for permanent residence in Canada, and to cease any removal or deportation actions applied to such individuals. The motion has not yet been passed by Parliament. Toronto lawyer Jeffrey House says the court system does not allow soldiers to question the illegality of the war, and as such the"main argument" and the "main reason" that US soldiers put forward in refusing to continue fighting in Iraq, is being kept out of the court system.

Veteran prosecutor takes over CIA probe

WASHINGTON - For the high-profile, politically charged investigation into the destruction of CIA interrogation videos, the Justice Department is turning to a low-profile, politically independent prosecutor.

While judges focused on the detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and tried to guarantee that any evidence of detainee abuse would be preserved, the CIA was performing its toughest questioning half a world away. And by the time President Bush publicly acknowledged the secret prison system, interrogation videotapes of two terrorism suspects had been destroyed.
