The emotionally charged battle over end-of-life decisions has taken to the airwaves as Washington state voters decide whether to allow doctors to prescribe lethal medication to terminally ill patients.

Recent TV and radio ads by opponents feature actor Martin Sheen, who calls the measure a "dangerous idea" that could be used by the most vulnerable in society. Supporters are on TV with an ad spotlighting a widow who says it lets those who are suffering have control over their final days.

The measure would allow physicians in Washington state to help terminally ill patients end their lives. Oregon, where voters first approved the idea in 1994, is the only state with such a law.

"It really is a matter of personal decisions and having the freedom to make your own decisions about end-of-life care," said Anne Martens, spokeswoman for Yes on I-1000.

The measure is strongly opposed by religious groups, and Catholic church officials said their opposition shouldn't surprise anyone.

PB&J Bars

1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup cold butter
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup jelly
1-2/3 cups peanut-butter chips, divided

Preheat oven to 375 F. Grease 9-inch-square baking pan. Mix together flour, sugar and baking powder. Cut in butter with fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in egg. Reserve 1 cup mixture; press remaining mixture onto bottom of prepared pan. Stir jelly to soften, and spread evenly over crust. Sprinkle 1 cup peanut-butter chips over jelly. Stir remaining 2/3 cup chips into reserved crumb mixture; sprinkle over top. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool. Cut into bars. — S.G., Louisiana

But Ricard alone achieved an astonishing score of -0.45 – a level of joy so far above the others that his score was nearly off the chart.

They believe that sweet drinks give people a sugar rush that helps supply the brain with the fuel needed to suppress outspoken opinions.

They were then shown a picture of Sammy, a young man said to be gay, and asked to write for five minutes about his typical day.

Using a list of 58 stereotypes associated with gay men, the researchers then counted the number of times they were written.

Those who had drunk the sugary drink used far fewer stereotypes in their essays than those who had the artificial sweetener, leading to a theory that people can use restraint to keep objectionable thoughts to themselves when they have higher amounts of glucose in their body.

A group of first graders were taken on an indoctrinational field trip to witness a gay marriage in California, according to Protect Marriage. If traditional marriage is not upheld, this is what we'll be getting everywhere.

In the same week that the No on 8 campaign launched an ad that labeled as “lies” claims that same-sex marriage would be taught in schools to young children, a first grade class took a school-sponsored trip to a gay wedding. Eighteen first graders traveled to San Francisco City Hall Friday for the wedding of their teacher and her lesbian partner, The San Francisco Chronicle reported. The school sponsored the trip for the students, ages 5 and 6, taking them away from their studies for the same-sex wedding. According to the Yes on 8 campaign, the public school field trip demonstrates that the California Supreme Court's decision to legal same-sex marriage has real consequences.

"I doubt the school has ever taken kids on a field trip to a traditional wedding,"

ScienceDaily (Oct. 10, 2008) — The first ecosystem ever found having only a single biological species has been discovered 2.8 kilometers (1.74 miles) beneath the surface of the earth in the Mponeng gold mine near Johannesburg, South Africa. There the rod-shaped bacterium Desulforudis audaxviator exists in complete isolation, total darkness, a lack of oxygen, and 60-degree-Celsius heat (140 degrees Fahrenheit).

Easy Butter

Ingredients:

2 cups heavy cream
salt
pepper

Directions:

Pour 2 cups of heavy cream in your food processor. The fresher the cream, the better the butter will turn out.

Pop the lid on, blitz, sit back and watch the show. It’s quite entertaining, really, but then again, I’m easily amused

The cream will go through different stages.

Then all of a sudden it happens. You hear a ‘slosh‘ (can you tell I’m all excited? I just have no life:) and the grainy, yellow butter has separated itself from, what is now, nothing but buttermilk. This is what we wanted! Eureka!

All that’s left to do is drain the buttermilk and there you have it. Butter. If you are going to use it all up, you’re good to go now. If you want to keep the butter longer, you’ll have to rinse the butter curds with cold water.

Press it down with a spoon and stir it to get the excess liquid out. Told you it was easy!

But while we’ve been debating the dos and don’ts of technology etiquette, it appears that many of us have forgotten some of the old school manners that our parents, grandparents, and teachers taught us—manners that have nothing to do with a keyboard or a monitor, but have everything to do with the long-forgotten Golden Rule. Maybe technology has eroded our brains so much that we can never go back to those golden days, but there are a few simple courtesies that I’d like to see make a comeback.

Hold doors for people.

Give up seats.

Let those inside the elevator exit before you enter.

Mind your telephone manners.

Research by advertising agency M&C Saatchi reveals that changing consumer behaviour is also creating new types of customers who can be classified depending on their spending patterns.

According to the agency there are now eight different spending personalities: "justifiers" who like to spend, but will only do so if there is an excuse like a limited offer; "scrimpers" who are downtrading by, for example, substituting brands with store labels; "ostriches" who refuse to change their behaviour; "crash dieters" who have stopped spending on all non-essentials; "treaters" who buy themselves special gifts as a reward for their own frugality; "abstainers" who postpone buying big items; "clothcutters" who reduce their spending on certain items to buy more important goods; and "vultures" who love a good economic crash because there are so many bargains.

He said companies that would "soothe the guilt" of spending money and help people reduce their household budgets by offering those sorts of deals
