The world’s largest solar photovoltaic farm is strangely beautiful. Fields lined with solar panels tilting sunward seem almost like a massive environmental art project—one with an empowering message to the world. We can find ways to run the world predominantly on clean energy if we choose to. It’s already beginning. By 2020, Portugal plans to generate over a third of its energy from renewables, with that percentage increasing every year.

The farm, located high on the Alantejo Plain near the small town of
Mouro, will be twice as large as any other project of its kind. The
farm is comprised of 2520 giant solar panels, positioned at a 45
degrees angle to track the sun as it moves across the sky.

Portugal has already made its mark as a world leader in switching to
clean energy. Why? Partly because unlike other developed countries,
Portugal doesn't have an economy dominated by coal, gas and uranium
extraction industries.

Tags: energy

<clipSource>http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2008/06/the-renewable-r.html</clipSource>

Mugabe and Ahmadinejad off the menu

clipped by: tabsey
clipper's remarks: Cause enough indigestion without being there.

Clip Source: www.smh.com.au

The Italian and UN hosts of a United Nations crisis summit on

Did Britney Spears cause the global credit squeeze? Slithershanks certainly thinks she did, shameless content free media image that she is. He revealed the plot to me over a hot conspiracy theory. It went like this.

"Britney has been hit with a restraining order by Britney's parents, after she tried to swap her hat for 45,327 subprime mortgages," he told me, beside himself and several other people as well. "Worried, Ben Bernanke, chairman of the US Federal Reserve, dropped interest rates 25 basis points and said he would never listen to MTV again, but only because he had no idea what an MTV was."

Tags: don't, know

<clipSource>http://blogs.theage.com.au/slithershanks/</clipSource>

Bond insurer woes could become market tsunami: Spitzer

clipped by: tabsey
clipper's remarks: The steam roller is rumbling.

Clip Source: www.reuters.com

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The bond insurer problem must be fixed, or else it could become a "financial tsunami" that wreaks havoc on the broader economy, New York Governor Eliot Spitzer is due to tell the U.S. Congress on Thursday.

A copy of Spitzer's prepared testimony was obtained by Reuters on Wednesday.

New York State Insurance Superintendent Eric Dinallo is working with banks on rescue plans for several bond insurers, which guarantee more than $2.4 trillion of debt and are expected to suffer big losses from insuring bonds linked to subprime mortgages and other risk assets.

Those losses threaten the top credit ratings that insurers need to win new business.
