In this spectacular image, observations using infrared light and X-ray light see through the obscuring dust and reveal the intense activity near the galactic core. Note that the center of the galaxy is located within the bright white region to the right of and just below the middle of the image. The entire image width covers about one-half a degree, about the same angular width as the full moon.

Each telescope's contribution is presented in a different color:

- Yellow represents the near-infrared observations of Hubble. The observations outline the energetic regions where stars are being born as well as reveal hundreds of thousands of stars.

- Red represents the infrared observations of Spitzer. The radiation and winds from stars create glowing dust clouds that exhibit complex structures from compact, spherical globules to long, stringy filaments.

Just watched 30 Days of Night again.

It has occurred to me that the living dead (Zombies & Vampires) would freeze in winter due to the fact they have no metabolism producing internal heat.

"Gollum" crawled out of a lake and charged schoolkids

TERRIFIED locals in a South American town are running scared after a strange creature they describe as "Gollum" crawled out of a lake and charged schoolkids.

The beast — which has "sparked fear and confusion" in the small town of Cerro Azul, Panama — was spotted on Saturday when four 14 to 16-year-olds were playing by the waterfront.

According to their account, reported by Panamanian news service Telemetro, the youngsters "screamed" when the five-foot creature emerged from a cave and started clambouring over rocks towards them "as if to attack them".

In a "desperate bid to defend themselves" the four terrified boys said they hurled rocks at the strange creature to kill it, before throwing its corpse in the water and running away.

Their disbelieving parents returned to the lake the following day — and were stunned to discovered the beast's body washed up on the shore.

A UFO of a very irregular shape has been spotted by more than one person as well as photographed in Argentina (images above and below). The UFO sighting took place in the vicinity of the village of San Rafael on the artificial lake of El-Nihuil

There is another angle to this sighting however. Judging by the image below for certain, and possibly even in light of the image above, the cryptozoology crowd might stake a claim to this sighting and note that this could be a unknown creature or a still existent flying dinosaur such as a Pterodactyl. Many might argue that in this instance they might well have a case.

Sure we've seen canned bacon before, but I don't want to seem I give preferential treatment to one pig's belly over another, so here's Tac Bac! Like its competitor, this bacon is good for TEN FREAKIN' YEARS. Buy now and you can eat the very same can in 2019 while huddled in your basement praying the robots' heat sensors can't reach you down there. Each tactical can will set you back $16 and contains approximately 54 strips of fatty pig. Definitely not the cheapest thing to survive on, but it's worlds better than ten year old Ho-Hos and Ding Dongs, which, I don't care if they're the last things on earth, are still illegal.

Welfare, Food Stamps May Be Next for Those That Can't Find Work by End of Year

These are the most unfortunate of America's 14.5 million jobless: the ones whose benefits are drying up — in some cases after a record 18 months of government support.

With savings depleted and job opportunities scarce, people who've run out of benefits are living with relatives and borrowing cash from friends. They are even skipping meals. Through it all, they are trying to stay positive through exercise and prayer.

In the past year, nearly 5.5 million people exhausted their 26 weeks of standard benefits without finding work. The government says the "exhaustion rate" is the highest on records dating from 1972.

Some 3.4 million people now depend upon extended benefits approved by Congress lasting anywhere from 20 weeks to a year — the longest period of extensions ever added.

Somali pirates have seized two more ships, brushing off their losses from deadly rescue operations and throwing down the gauntlet to US President Barack Obama after he pledged to curb piracy.

Two Egyptian fishing boats have been captured, followed by two cargo ships, and crew members from all vessels are being held hostage.

The latest attacks bring to four the number of vessels taken since the US Navy operation on Monday, which saved an American skipper but led to the deaths of three pirates, upping the stakes in the dangerous waters off the Horn of Africa.

French forces have also shot dead two pirates in recent days.

The MV Irena, a 35,000-tonne Greek-operated merchant vessel flagged in Saint-Vincent and the Grenadines, was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden, the European Union's naval mission in the area said.

Its 22-man Filipino crew is believed to be safe.

clipper's remarks: I'd be lying if I did't say this but I've been having too much fun lately getting hooked up on Joss Whedon's cult classic, short lived 2002 'Firefly', all on Hulu.com. This show (just like his current Dollhouse) is one addictive mind candy! And watching it for the very first time is like someone watching Matrix for the first time. I mean, it's a once-in-a-lifetime type of experience, ain't it?

I am really sorry if you're not in United States and Hulu doesn't work for you.
