Place the bill on the table, face up

Fold the top end down.

Fold the top end down so that the fold falls just under the white edge. This covers the white edge and makes the finished ring a bit slimmer. Note that the front margins are different from the back margins.

Fold the bottom end up.

Fold the bottom end up about the same amount, to cover the white edge. The exact width for these two folds isn't critical, but try to keep them parallel with the edges of the bill.

Fold in half lengthwise.

Fold the bill in half lengthwise, bringing the two edges you created together.

Fold lengthwise again.

Fold the bill in half lengthwise again.

Check your fold

Check your folds. They should look like this if you open up the end.

Find the number.

Note that one of the small numbers should be facing out. Place it so that it's on your left, as shown.

Fold the right end up.

Fold down.

Turn over.

Loop around.

Fold over.

Fold the loose end under and tuck it in.

Take the temperature of the drink. This step is optional; once you open a can, this method won't be as effective. If this is your first time trying it, though, it may be interesting to record how drastically the temperature can change.

Fill a bowl with water and add ice to it. Add as much ice to the water as you can, but not so much that it prevents the entire beverage container from being submerged into the water. A 50/50 mix of ice and water is a good rule of thumb.

Add table salt to the ice. A small handful should do. Adding salt lowers the freezing temperature of the water.

Place your drinks in the ice water solution and rapidly stir them all around. By stirring, you're using forced convection to speed the transfer of heat out of your drink and into the ice water solution.

Enjoy your cold drink. It should now be about the perfect temperature to quench your thirst.

(CNN) -- Authorities have captured an Illinois man suspected of killing eight people in two states, the FBI confirmed Tuesday.

Nicholas Troy Sheley, 28, of Sterling, was arrested Tuesday evening in Granite City, Illinois, just east of St. Louis, Special Agent Ross Rice told CNN.

He had been the subject of a police and FBI manhunt and was considered armed and dangerous, FBI Special Agent Robert D. Grant said. Before being caught, he was last seen in blood-soaked clothes near St. Louis, Missouri, officials said.

The victims -- six in Illinois and two in Missouri -- apparently died from blunt force trauma to the head, the FBI said.

A bulletin issued by the St. Louis County Police Department said, "He has stated to his ex-wife that he has more killing to do. He is a meth addict and extremely dangerous."

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A 49-year-old woman collapsed and died on the floor of a waiting room at a Brooklyn psychiatric hospital and lay there for more than an hour as employees ignored her, according to the New York Civil Liberties Union, which on Tuesday released surveillance camera video of the incident.

Esmin Green was involuntarily admitted to the psychiatric emergency department of Kings County Hospital Center on June 18 for what the hospital describes as "agitation and psychosis."

Upon her admission, Green waited nearly 24 hours for treatment, said the civil liberties union, which was among the groups filing suit against the facility last year seeking improved conditions for patients.

The surveillance camera video shows the woman rolling off a waiting room chair, landing face-down on the floor and convulsing. Her collapse came at 5:32 a.m. June 19, the NYCLU said, and she stopped moving at 6:07 a.m. During that time, the organization said, workers at the hospital ignored her.

STARKE, Florida (AP) -- Florida on Tuesday carried out its first execution since a botched lethal injection procedure prompted the state to revamp the way it conducts capital punishment.

Mark Dean Schwab, who was convicted of kidnapping, raping and killing an 11-year-old boy, died at 6:15 p.m.

The execution was the initial test of Florida's new lethal injection procedure, which was instituted after Angel Diaz was executed in December 2006. Needles to inject the deadly chemicals into Diaz missed their mark and he suffered burns and extreme pain, prompting a state investigation and a moratorium.

Among the 40 witnesses were the boy's mother and father, who wore white T-shirts with the his picture on the front and "JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED" across the back. Watch what the slain boy's parents have to say »

It took 34 minutes for Diaz to die, more than twice the normal time. Schwab's execution started at 6:03 p.m. and lasted 12 minutes.

July 1, 2008 -- Scientists reported Tuesday that when they surveyed volunteers 14 months after they took a psychedelic drug as part of a research project, most said they were still feeling and behaving better because of the experience.

Two-thirds of them also said the drug had produced one of the five most spiritually significant experiences they'd ever had.

The drug, psilocybin, is found in so-called "magic mushrooms." It's illegal, but it has been used in religious ceremonies for centuries.

The study involved 36 men and women during an eight-hour lab visit. It's one of the few such studies of a hallucinogen in the past 40 years, since research was largely shut down after widespread recreational abuse of such drugs in the 1960s.

The project made headlines in 2006 when researchers published their report on how the volunteers felt just two months after taking the drug. The new study followed them up a year after that.

July 1, 2008 -- At least 12,000 years ago, the most popular musical events might have taken place in torch-lit caves next to walls covered in art, according to new archaeological research in France.

Stone Age-era caves there bear paintings located in the most acoustically resonant places, where sound lingers or echoes.

The first cathedrals, theaters and concert halls, researchers now theorize, may have been inspired by musical performances held in caves.

The latter finding suggests cave dwellers first scoped out caves for their musicality before any painting commenced.

"I am a specialist of the resonance of buildings and spaces, particularly of the resonance of Romanesque churches," Reznikoff explained. "The first time I happened to be in a prehistoric cave, I tried the resonance in various parts of the cave, and quickly the question arose: Is there a relation between resonance and locations of the paintings?"

July 1, 2008 -- Tens of thousands of years ago, "armadas of ice" crumbled off of the ice sheet covering North America into the Atlantic Ocean. Meanwhile, thousands of miles away on the other side of the continent, icebergs calved off of another ice sheet into the Pacific.

Their synchrony -- just uncovered by new research -- suggests the events might be connected in a long-distance domino effect. The fact that melting at one location may influence ice sheets afar may be useful in understanding the behavior of ice today, according to the study's authors.

"What it is saying is that these ice sheets are connected," said lead author Ingrid Hendy of the University of Michigan. "If we melt Greenland, we could raise sea level and affect Antarctica. Or, if we melt Greenland, we can affect the tidewater glaciers up in Alaska."

"I was anticipating that I'd see the ice sheets responding to the rapid climate events," Hendy said. "What I found was that the ice sheet doesn't really care."

Virginia same-sex couple not charged in marriage ploy

An enterprising Virginia gay couple, briefly succeeding in circumventing the state's same-sex marriage ban, won't be charged with a crime for posing as a heterosexual pair, officials said.

Justin McCain, 18, and Antonio Blount, 31, received a marriage licence in March at a court in Newport News, Virginia. McCain, who court employees said appeared to be a woman, filled out the section of the application for the "bride".

McCain pronounced his first name as "Justine". The two were married later by a Norfolk, Virginia official.

The ploy was uncovered when McCain petitioned the court in May to change his name legally to Penelopsky Aaryonna Goldberry, catching officials' attention. A Newport News judge voided the marriage after a court clerk asked McCain, "are you male or female," and McCain answered male, the Washington Post reported.

Police consider dropping Madeleine McCann inquiry

Portugal's attorney general today confirmed reports he was considering winding down the investigation over missing Madeleine McCann.

Earlier, Portuguese media reports claimed a lack of evidence had forced officers to abandon the inquiry, nearly 14 months after the three-year-old went missing.

The Correio da Manha paper said sources within Portugal's judicial police said they did "not have sufficient evidence to allow formal charges to be brought against the McCanns in the disappearance of their daughter".

Madeleine, from Rothley, Leicestershire, disappeared from the resort of Praia da Luz in the Algarve during a family holiday on May 3 last year.

Detectives later named her parents, Kate, 40, and Gerry McCann, 39, as well as a local man Robert Murat, 34, as formal suspects or "arguidos" in the abduction.

The McCanns remain classified as "arguidos" in the inquiry but have not been charged by authorities.

Videos allegedly show torture by police in Mexico

MEXICO CITY—Videos shown by Mexican news media allegedly display municipal police participating in torture.

One of the videos shows members of an elite tactical unit trying out methods on a fellow officer. They appear to squirt water up his nose and dunk his head in a hole said to be full of excrement and rats. The man gasps for air and moans repeatedly.

In another video, an unidentified English-speaking man who appears to be training the group forces one exhausted agent to roll over into his own vomit.

The Reforma newspaper said Tuesday that local officials defended the action of the agents, saying they were being prepared for extreme situations.

Mexican officials have long struggled to eliminate torture by police agencies.
