Find the demon.

Do you know what I'm talking about? It's the little voice in the back of your head that's always whispering, “You can't.” You know the demon. You may think you hate the demon, but you don't. You love it. You let it own you. You do everything it says. Everytime there's something you want, you consult the demon first, to see if it will say, “You can't have that.”

What you don't realize is that your demon doesn't know anything. It's an idiot. It's nothing but a parrot, repeating back to you anything negative that it's ever heard, anything that makes you hurt, makes you squirm. If a teacher once told you “You'll never accomplish anything,” it was listening; it hoards words like that and repeats them back to you to watch you jump. It doesn't know what it's saying. It doesn't care.

Millions of cows (and sheep) have been killed in Great Britian and other European countries in the past 15 years to preven the spread of two diseases; millions of chickens have been killed in China for the same reasons. The first is known as "Mad Cow", or Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in which actual holes are found in the animal's brains. The human form of this goes by the less-obvious name of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. What causes these is an abnormal protein called a "prion". Tissues from the brain and spine contaminate and mix with other parts and non-infected cows at the slaughterhouse. The cows are getting this because people have been grinding up sick cows and feeding them back to more cows. This is not the way nature intended, so mutations have arrived.

This segues nicely (well, pretend it does...) to this photo - taken in China, circa 1937. These are the heads of "outlaws". It was common practice to hang their heads on billboards after public execution. I bet that would be a bit of a deterrent, walking down the street and seeing this. They still don't mess around in China. I sometimes hear how China has a billion people and, like, 19 people in jail. (I love statistics). If you read about how criminals get taken care of in China and how tough their prisons are, I think you have your answer as to why. I won't get into my rant about letting people lounge on Death Row for 25 years, getting college degrees, getting married, writing books, becoming celebrities. (I said I'd shut up a while back..didn't I?) :)

Convicted forger A. Schiller was serving his time in Sing
Sing prison in the late 1800s when guards found him dead in
his cell. On his body they found seven regular straight pins
whose heads measured the typical 47/1000ths of an inch or
1.17 millimeters in diameter. Under 500 magnification it was
found that the tiny etchings seen on the heads of the pins
were the words to The Lord's Prayer, which is 65 words and
254 letters long. Of the seven pins, six were silver and one
was gold - the gold pin's prayer was flawless and a true
masterpiece. Schiller had spent the last 25 years of his life
creating the pins, using a tool too small to be seen by the
naked eye. It is estimated that it took 1,863 sepatate carving
strokes to make it. Schiller went blind because of his
artwork.

America is secretly funding militant ethnic separatist groups in Iran in an attempt to increase pressure on the Islamic regime to give up its nuclear weapons programme. CIA officials are understood to be helping opposition militias in Iran's border regions. The controversial operations involve dealing with movements that resort to terrorist methods against the Iranian regime. Last week the UN Security Council deadline passed for Iran to stop its programme and a second American aircraft carrier entered Iran's southern coastal waters. (Sunday Telegraph)

More than 5,000 children are being forced to work as sex slaves in the UK - many of them trafficked to this country by criminal gangs. A report published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation says that 200 years after the slave trade was officially abolished, Britain is a major transit point for the movement of child slaves around the world. The report finds that the UK's response to trafficking is too biased towards law enforcement at the expense of victim protection. (Independent on Sunday)
