For as long as I can remember, when I was young I instinctively knew he would achieve great things. I also knew I would not have the benefit of seeing him grow old. He was 18 months older than I, we were inseperable. He was my biggest Fan and my Worst critic. The depth of his honesty, loyalty and love that he so feely gave me, will never be matched by another living soul. That is his, that was ours.

My perceptions, and interactions, with cops changed after an incident I witnessed a few weeks after I moved to LA. I was smoking a cigarette in front of my new residence on Rampart near 6th when I witnessed four cruisers roll up out of nowhere on three young Latinos in a VW bug. All eight officers popped out of their cruisers and trained their weapons on the VW.

Today's drug users are so stigmatized by America's failed War on Drugs, and lawmakers are so intent to punish, rather than rehabilitate non-violent drug offenders, that society somehow manages to overlook prisoner rape as the unspoken status quo in our correctional institutions.

The latest tempest in the marble teapot of San Francisco's City Hall is public outcry over the cost of a wheelchair ramp to accommodate Supervisor Michaela Alioto-Pier's access in the Board of Supervisors' chambers. Well not exactly her access to the chambers, or to her own seat, but to the podium behind which presides the Board's President... an honor Alioto-Pier is highly unlikely to enjoy during her tenure.
