Mr. Speaker, I rise to introduce the Free Housing Market Enhancement Act. This legislation restores a free market in housing by repealing special privileges for housing-related government sponsored enterprises (GSEs). These entities are the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie), the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie), and the National Home Loan Bank Board (HLBB). According to the Congressional Budget Office, the housing-related GSEs received $13.6 billion worth of indirect federal subsidies in fiscal year 2000 alone

Ironically, by transferring the risk of a widespread mortgage default, the government increases the likelihood of a painful crash in the housing market. This is because the special privileges of Fannie, Freddie, and HLBB have distorted the housing market by allowing them to attract capital they could not attract under pure market conditions.

Ralph Nader "was here in Cincinnati and I went down to see him speak hoping that he would take questions afterwards and he did. I asked him if he was aware of a third-party unification ticket to be announced this Wednesday [10:00am at the National Press Club in DC]. He said he was unaware of a 'third-party unification ticket', but said that he would be at the press conference along with Cynthia McKinney and Bob Barr [and Chuck Baldwin] and that there would be an 'unprecedented announcement.'"

There is indeed great and important news coming on Wednesday, as Ralph indicates. It is not a unification ticket, but it is an historic and direct attack on the Republicrat duopoly. Go, Ron, go!

In Montana’s June 3 primary, Paul took 20,606 votes, well short of McCain’s 72,791, but still a sizeable chunk of Republican voters. An additional 2,333 Montanans voted for neither, choosing Republican “no preference.”

Martin said he would not be concerned if putting Paul on the ballot harmed McCain's candidacy.

"If it would affect that, it wouldn't bother us too much," Martin added. "We wanted to put the best candidate that was out there on the ballot."

Ron Paul's name will appear on the Montana presidential ballot as the Constitution Party nominee, along with running mate Michael Peroutka, according to a spokesman at the Montana Secretary of State's office

Jonathan Martin, state chairman of the Constitution Party of Montana confirmed that he submitted the paperwork for Ron Paul's presidential candidacy Friday. The Montana Constitution Party recently disaffiliated itself with the national Constitution Party, which is supporting Chuck Baldwin, a conservative radio talk show host and Baptist minister in Florida. Ballot Access News first broke the story about Paul's name on the Montana ballot

Martin said he simply felt Paul was the most qualified, experienced candidate with views most closely in line with the Constitution – though he acknowledged neither Baldwin nor Paul are likely to win the state.

"Ron Paul did not seek it, but he did not oppose it," Martin said. "He allowed it."

According to some estimates, the line of credit may be worth over $2 billion dollars. This explicit promise by the Treasury to bail out GSEs in times of economic difficulty helps the GSEs attract investors who are willing to settle for lower yields than they would demand in the absence of the subsidy. Thus, the line of credit distorts the allocation of capital. More importantly, the line of credit is a promise on behalf of the government to engage in a huge unconstitutional and immoral income transfer from working Americans to holders of GSE debt. The Free Housing Market Enhancement Act also repeals the explicit grant of legal authority given to the Federal Reserve to purchase GSE debt. GSEs are the only institutions besides the United States Treasury granted explicit statutory authority to monetize their debt through the Federal Reserve.

clipper's remarks: I know what community organizers do. I have friends and family who are involved with social work and community organization. They register people to vote. They get people involved with the political process. They know the real, day-to-day problems of the people in their community like the back of their hand. They help people with their life problems, helping elderly folks keep the lights on and helping gro ups with a significant problem get organized enough to get the attention of an alderman or city hall. The people on the ground, the "community organizers" and very local politicians, do a ton of good work for the people of this country. And through that process, they gain a deep understanding of the real problems and thoughts of everyday people. I held out hope that during the Convention, I could get a real grasp on where the Republican Party was.Last night, Sarah Palin gave a speech that was in theory meant to get people like me excited about the Republican ticket.

Over the next several months, as the campaign season went along, I started actually opening my ears and listening to talk radio a bit

And I was deeply disturbed. Instead of hearing compelling arguments for why John McCain was the right man for the job, I would hear three nonstop hours of insults levied toward Barack Obama, much of it not directly aimed towards him, but intended to serve as character assassination by association

Very rarely did I hear a word abou t policy, and when I did, it was usually just deriding a specific plank of Obama's plan

I learned virtually nothing about what John McCain actually planned to do for this country

The worst, for me, was repeated harpings on the idea that Barack Obama was somehow "bad" because he was a community organizer

Kokesh, a passionate Ron Paul supporter, is 26 and a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War. He served in Fallujah in 2004, grew up in Santa Fe, and currently lives in Washington, D.C. He has a website.

At the beginning of McCain's speech, Kokesh held up a sign reading, "McCain Votes Against Vets" and yelled, "Ask him why he votes against vets!" I followed as Kokesh was escorted out of the Excel Center by security, handcuffed by local police, and then briefly questioned while security debated whether or not the Secret Service would get involved. They did not. He was then escorted off the premises and allowed to go free. I interviewed him just outside the security gates, where he was greeted happily by antiwar protesters.

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.) has warned millions of radio listeners that the United States is heading into an illegal attack on Iran, stating his amazement at members of Congress who have openly voiced support for a criminal nuclear strike.

"If we do (attack) it is going to be a disaster," the congressman told the Alex Jones radio show. "I was astounded to see on one of the networks the other day that the debate was not are we going to attack, but are we going to attack before or after the election?" Paul continued.

Paul recently voiced concern over House Congressional Resolution 362 which he has dubbed a "virtual Iran war resolution."

"The frightening thing is they say they are taking no options off the table, even nuclear first strike," Paul said. Paul believes from talking with his contacts in and around Congress that a strike on Iran has already been green-lighted.
