You check in at the airline ticket counter. But instead of a boarding pass, you get shackled with an electronic bracelet which tracks your every move, contains all your personal information, and can shock you senseless. This vision of the future of air security is being floated around the Department of Homeland Security’s research and development office.

According to a video promoting the so-called EMD Safety Bracelet, all airline passengers would be required to wear it “until they disembark the flight at their destination.”

The device, in addition to storing all of your sensitive personal information and tracking you with GPS, would allow someone to activate it remotely and immobilize the wearer for several minutes. This is EMD, or electro-muscular disruption.

And the Department of Homeland Security is interested in buying them.

wie Ihr wahrscheinlich schon wisst, organisieren die US-Paulites am 12. Juli in Washington den "Revolution March".
Als kleines Zeichen der Solidarität und willkommene Gelegenheit, Gleichgesinnte zu treffen, haben wir von Bavaria-for-Ron-Paul beschlossen, eine kleine Kundgebung am selben Tag zu organisieren.

"Kundgebung" deshalb, weil ein "Marsch" im Bayern des Jahres 2008 noch schwerer zu genehmigen ist, als eine stationäre Kundgebung.

Wir nennen es trotzdem den "Munich Freedom March", weil wir ja um den Brunnen am Geschwister-Scholl-Platz marschieren können...Die aus Straßburg bekannten Riesenfahnen werden wieder zu Ehren kommen und selbstgemachte Schilder sind selbstverständlich auch willkommen.

Bush celebrates 62nd birthday on the fly

Wedged between America's Independence Day and a summit of world leaders, President Bush's 62nd birthday got shortchanged this year.

His advisers tried hard to mark his milestone.

As he flew to Japan, White House press advisers quietly gathered in a darkened conference room aboard Air Force One. A steward stuck a single candle in a coconut cake. Bush and first lady Laura Bush were invited inside.

"Surprise! Happy Birthday!" they exclaimed.

"He dutifully pretended to be surprised," press secretary Dana Perino said.

The party for his birthday Sunday was informal; the gift was not.

The staff presented him with a wooden box made from a giant oak tree that fell on the White House lawn in 2007. Some of the wood from the tree, planted by Benjamin Harrison's daughter in 1892, had been sent to Texas to be fashioned into a box about 12-by-18 inches. They filled it with notes and cards from members of his senior staff.

UAE Scraps Iraq Debt

The United Arab Emirates said on Sunday it was waiving Iraq's debt of nearly seven billion dollars and also named an envoy to Baghdad during a visit by Iraq's premier to the oil-rich Gulf state

President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan told Nuri al-Maliki the UAE has "decided to write off all debts owed by Iraq totalling four billion dollars... plus accrued interest," the official WAM news agency said.

An Emirati official, confirming the decision, told AFP the debt and interest amounted to just under seven billion dollars.

The UAE, a close US ally, also named its current envoy to India as ambassador in Baghdad, an Emirati official said

Before the UAE announced the debt writeoff, the US State Department had said Iraq's debt has been reduced by 66.5 billion dollars over the past three years, including a total of 42.3 billion dollars cancelled by Paris Club members

50 billion to 80 billion dollars remain, with a "significant majority" owed to Arab countries.
