The massive central door in the side of Noah's Ark was thrown open Saturday for the first crowd of curious Pilgrims and townsfolk to behold the wonder.

Of course, it's only a replica of the biblical Ark , built by Dutch Creationist Johan Huibers as a testament to his faith in the literal truth of the Bible.

The ark is 150 cubits long, 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide. That's two-thirds the length of a football field and as high as a three-story house.

Life-size models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, bison and other animals greet visitors as they arrive in the main hold.

There is enough space near the keel for a 50-seat film theater where kids can watch a video that tells the story of Noah and his ark.

But according to The Seattle Times, concerns have been raised over that particular gathering. The newspaper reports that Melissa Jones -- a Christian parent -- challenges the idea that a spiritual leader can "deliver a completely secular message," as the schools and organizers say the exiled leader will. Another parent, Becky Tilev, tells the Times it is unfair that the district tiptoes around her Christian faith, yet appears to have no problems busing students in to hear the leader of another religion. And she feels uncomfortable that the Dalai Lama will be introduced as "his holiness."

Hiram Sasser, the director of litigation with the Liberty Legal Institute, says there is no cause for concern -- at least legally. The attorney points out that U.S. Supreme Court rulings have made it clear that school buses and government buses can be used to transport children to religious education and activity.

Wal-Mart, the world’s largest corporation, has jumped on the faith-based bandwagon with representatives announcing Tuesday that they will begin to test-sell biblical action figures in their stores.

About one-eighth of the company’s discount stores – 425 out of a possible 3,376 – will now devote part of their toy aisle to One2believe, a Valencia, Calif.-based company that creates action figures based on biblical heroes such as Samson.

Worms consume and recycle organic material. In this article you will see how easy it is to set up and maintain your own indoor family or classroom worm bin. It’s engaging, educational, fun, and yes…creepy and crawly!

Your children will discover how to keep, feed and maintain worms while having numerous (almost endless) related science projects throughout the summer and way into the school year.

Keeping a worm bin can strengthen children’s problem solving skills and scientific methodology practice (even with young children). The end result of having an indoor worm bin is harvesting the worm castings (the greatest natural fertilizer).

Aboriginal people take instructions literally. Truck drivers who travel the country often have no one with whom to share anecdotes and insights. A program called Trucker Buddy International offers such drivers an eager audience. The program pairs truckers and classes, giving students a driver's-eye view of the world and prolific pen pals

Truck drivers might not have soft and cuddly reputations in some circles, but to thousands of schoolchildren, they are friends and confidantes who write exciting letters about cross-country travel.

A non-profit organization called Trucker Buddy International pairs truck drivers with kids in second through eighth grade and with special education students. Truckers write to students about their travels and incorporate math and geography lessons. Students get to practice their letter writing.

Trucker Buddy Tom Hawks visits some of his students.
