Following are excerpts from NASA's official pre-flight interview for STS-107 that demonstrate how Husband and Anderson felt about their faith:

Rick Husband: Well, I think apart from NASA, the most enjoyable part of my life has been my time with my family. And, if you think about, probably the pinnacle or the most exciting or memorable events, I would say probably my marriage and then the birth of our two children, and being there with my wife, and just the awesome experience of seeing a baby come into the world. And just being so overwhelmed with God's goodness in blessing us with two wonderful children.

And as you look back at your life, there are just a million different things that have happened, just in the right way, to allow you to make your dreams come true. And you know, someone has all that under control.

But it's really the people that you don't think about every day that influence you

Lisa Beamer, also 32, is expecting the couple's third child in January. Lisa Beamer says faith and family were always her husband's priorities.

"He's one of the few people that I just look up to," Caterson says. "Both of them are rock steady in the faith and grounded in the Word."

Gina maintains a 3.9 overall GPA and did very well on the first few philosophy class assignments, her grades in the philosophy course dropped significantly after the question of God’s existence and attributes became the focus of class discussion. Gina read the assigned materials and participated in class discussions, presenting traditional philosophical arguments on whether God exists and whether He possesses certain characteristics such as being all-knowing or all-good. However, Gina was unwilling to state that she would reconsider her personal religious beliefs on God’s nature and existence, and her grades suffered as a result.

Gina was posed with the difficult choice of either violating her religious beliefs by publicly declaring, “I am Gina. I am not free because I am determined” or being penalized by failing to receive extra points like her classmates.

Gina chose to adhere to her faith because she could not, in good conscience, make that statement.

His academic prowess and his family's income made him a perfect selection for Washington's Promise Scholarship, which goes annually to more than 6,000 of the state's brightest students who come from modest means. Indeed, the state awarded him $1,125 in 1999 for his freshman year at Northwest College, a Kirkland school affiliated with the Assembly of God denomination.

But not long into his first year, Davey's scholarship vanished. He had committed the one unpardonable sin that would disqualify him from state aid: He would major in pastoral ministries and intended to become a minister.

Now he may get his scholarship money and a religious degree after all. A federal appeals court yesterday sided with Davey, 22, saying that the state law violated his constitutional right to practice his religion.

In the latest battle between church and state, a church's right to choose whom it employs is running headlong into the state's authority to protect workers from alleged age discrimination.

"Their legal argument is that the state really doesn't have any jurisdiction over Catholic schoolteachers who carry out the mission of the church," Johnson points out. "And that's what they're saying should apply here."

Johnson warns that there is concern over a "growing encroachment [on] church autonomy, where the government is trying to meddle in the affairs of faith communities and organized religions."

Gina D.’s stated unwillingness to reconsider or abandon her personal beliefs in favor of her Introduction to Philosophy Professor’s preferred viewpoints has led to her receiving poor grades on class assignments. She has also been singled out and derided in online discussions.

While a college professor may encourage students to be informed about viewpoints and arguments that differ from their own, it is inappropriate — and unconstitutional — for a public college professor to make passing a required course (and thus graduation) contingent upon a student’s willingness to express agreement with philosophical viewpoints conflicting with her religious beliefs.

The Church is obviously backslidden. The greater question it provokes is: Could we be in the Great Apostasy and not be aware of it?

First, I came to realize that this falling away would not primarily be an obvious, outward renunciation of Christianity; it would be much more an issue of what is occurring in people's hearts (e.g., Matthew 24:12 -- Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold... [NIV]).

News reports say that Warren gave her a hug and that at least one member of the popular author's Saddleback Valley Community Church called Clinton her "hero." Associated Press quotes Warren, who acknowledges there are issues on which his church and Clinton disagree, as saying: "[W]hen millions are dying each year [from AIDS], we are interested in lives, not labels."

Senator Clinton (D-New York) was one of several speakers to attend this week's AIDS summit at Pastor Rick Warren's church in California. During her speech on Thursday to the crowd of more than a thousand people, Clinton vowed to fight what some refer to as the "global AIDS pandemic" and pledged to spend $50 million on HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention worldwide if elected president.

"What Saddleback is doing is helping raise her profile as a legitimate presidential candidate in the eyes of evangelical Christians," he says -- adding: "I think that is a huge error."

Wal-Mart, the world’s largest corporation, has jumped on the faith-based bandwagon with representatives announcing Tuesday that they will begin to test-sell biblical action figures in their stores.

About one-eighth of the company’s discount stores – 425 out of a possible 3,376 – will now devote part of their toy aisle to One2believe, a Valencia, Calif.-based company that creates action figures based on biblical heroes such as Samson.

An official with the Institute on Religion and Democracy says many critics of President Bush's nominee for surgeon general have no problem with his qualifications. Their main concern, says Mark Tooley, appears to be his faith.

Recently, the first hearings were held concerning the president's nominee for surgeon general, Dr. James Holsinger, Jr. The Kentucky cardiologist has come under fire by homosexual activist groups who have condemned him because he is president of the Judicial Council in the United Methodist denomination, which is the church's top court. One of those groups, the Human Rights Campaign, has attacked Holsinger for what it calls his "anti-gay beliefs" and for his association with a church that has an ex-"gay" ministry. Both stances, says HRC, would conflict with his responsibilities as surgeon general.

The IRD spokesman says it seems as if critics of Holsinger want to prohibit all traditional Christians from holding public office.

A Jacksonville, Alabama, man who was prevented from speaking on a public sidewalk about his faith while using a speaker for amplification has won the repeal of a city ordinance that was responsible. The repeal was part of a settlement in the lawsuit he filed in U.S. District Court over the incident.

In March 2006, Wesley Sewell, an ordained minister, was sharing his faith on a public sidewalk using a ten-inch speaker when he was told by local police he was in violation of the city's noise ordinance because he could be heard more than ten feet away.

Jacksonville's speech policy was so restrictive, it prohibits any amplified sound that can be heard ten feet away -- which covers nearly all speech that exists."

ADF says as part of the settlement, Jacksonville officials agreed to a permanent injunction barring future enforcement of the old ordinance, and passed a new, less-restrictive law that will allow Sewell and others to share their faith publicly, with or without amplification.

Public official to call for revamped policy on Christmas decorations in New York City

A city councilman from New York City is challenging that city's policy that allows and encourages Muslim, Jewish and secular decorations in public schools during Christmas, but does not permit Christian symbols. Councilman Tony Avella will unveil a resolution this weekend that would change public school policy regarding the display of Christmas decorations.

I've heard this argument over and over from Pagans of all varieties, both while I was one, and now that I'm saved. I used it myself, in fact. I hear it from people raised in the church, and those invited in after their formative years. I've heard it from PK’s (Preacher’s Kids), and from former Mormons. From people of almost every walk of life, who have come to Paganism by means of a book, whether fluff like Silver Ravenwolf, or dark like Aleister Crowley, or by means of a teacher.
