"We are now in a fight against the great Russia," he said, "and our hope is to receive assistance from the White House, because Georgia cannot survive on its own.

"It's important that the entire world understands that what is happening in Georgia now will affect the entire world order. It's not just Georgia's business, but the entire world's business."

One of the Georgian parliament members did not settle Saturday for the call for American aid, urging Israel to help stop the Russian offensive as well: "We need help from the UN and from our friends, headed by the United States and Israel. Ben-Yehuda tracks the process by which Masada became an ideological symbol for the State of Israel, the dramatic subject of movies and miniseries, a shrine venerated by generations of Zionists and Israeli soldiers, and the most profitable tourist attraction in modern Israel.

"Placing the story in a larger historical, sociological, and psychological context, Ben-Yehuda draws upon theories of collective memory and mythmaking to analyze Masada’s crucial role in the nation-building process of modern Israel and the formation of a new Jewish identity. An expert on deviance and social control, he looks in particular at how a military failure was fabricated as a heroic tale."

Clip Source: books.google.ie

Ben-Yehuda describes how, after nearly 1800 years, the long, complex, and unsubstantiated narrative of Josephus Flavius was edited and augmented in the twentieth century to form a simple and powerful myth

He looks at the ways this new mythical narrative of Masada was created, promoted, and maintained by pre-state Jewish underground organizations, the Israeli army, archaeological teams, mass media, youth movements, textbooks, the tourist industry, and the arts. Menachem Begin was commander of the Irgun terrorist gang then more infamous and feared than today's al Qaeda.

Begin wrote in his memoirs, The Revolt:
" History and experience taught us that if we are able to destroy the prestige of the British in Palestine, the regime will break. Since we found the enslaving government's weak point, we did not let go of it."
Words that could be about the USA instead of the Brits by al Qaeda and not the Prime so-called "Monkey Trial" ended
in Dayton, Tennessee, with high school teacher John T. Scopes
convicted of violating a state law against teaching Darwin's
theory of evolution. It was considered to contradict the Bible’s
                  description of creation in Genesis

Scopes

.
The trial pitted two of America’s leading advocates as
the opposing lawyers: William Jennings Bryan, thrice the Democratic
                  presidential candidate (1896, 1900, 1908), the state’s
prosecutor; and Clarence Darrow, a lawyer famous for representing
the underdog, for the defense. Referred to as “the trial
of the century” even before it began, it was the first
trial ever broadcast (on radio). Bryan became ill and died
shortly after the trial’s end; the conviction was later
                  overturned by Tennessee’s Supreme Court.

The

After a successful amateur career, including winning the Walker Cup with the Great Britain & Ireland team in 1995, he turned professional later that year, joining the European Tour in 1996. He came to professional golf at a relatively late age, having qualified as an accountant and worked in the business for a number of years.

He has spent a considerable amount of time both in the top ten of the Official World Golf Rankings and as the highest ranked European golfer, his best ranking being third, which he achieved following his second Open Championship victory.

He has also played for Europe in four Ryder Cups; losing in 1999 but winning in 2002, 2004 and 2006. He has also won the par-3 contest at the Augusta National Golf Club.

Clip Source: www.guardian.co.uk

Harrington blows field away to seal double Open triumph

Padraig Harrington won his second consecutive Open title

Clip Source: www.todaysgolfer.co.uk

Clip Source: www.nytimes.com

Clip Source: en.wikipedia.org

A year later at the 2008 Open Championship it was unclear if he would get a chance to defend his Open title at Royal Birkdale as eight days prior to the event he injured his wrist. sahara
clipper's remarks: How is it possible their candidate is seeking to create some kind of massive but secret national police force that will be even bigger than the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force put together?
Now, maybe he was misquoted by the Congressional Quarterly and the Chicago Tribune. I guess it's possible. If so, you would think he would want to set the record straight. Maybe he misspoke. That has certainly happened before. Again, why wouldn't the rest of my colleagues show some curiosity about such a major and, frankly, bone-chilling proposition?
Are we talking about creating a police state here?
The U.S. Army alone has nearly 500,000 troops. That doesn't count reserves or National Guard. In 2007, the U.S. Defense budget was $439 billion.
Is Obama serious about creating some kind of domestic security force bigger and more expensive than that?
If not, why did he say it? What did he mean?

Clip Source: www.worldnetdaily.com

For several days now, WND has been hounding Barack Obama's campaign about a statement he made July 2 in Colorado Springs – a statement that blew my mind, one that has had me scratching my head ever since

In talking about his plans to double the size of the Peace Corps and nearly quadruple the size of AmeriCorps and the size of the nation's military services, he made this rather shocking (and chilling) pledge: "We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. Apostles and Bloody Sunday (original)

clipped by: righthand
clipper's remarks: Like America, we had out War of Independence followed by a bloody Civil War on the issue of independence. This was also in common with many other states that gained independence.

We didn't gain full independence until 1948 when we took it without a shot being fired. We did lose 6 of our 9 counties of Ulster, our northern providence. Hopefully some day our "four green fields" will be reunited peacefully.

By Bush&Co's definition all our leaders would have been terrorists like Nelson Mandela, just like your own revered insurrectionists/freedom fighters/terrorists/founding fathers. Our longest serving PM and president de Valera would have been executed along with the 1916 Rising leaders only he was born in America.

Clip Source: en.wikipedia.org

known as the Twelve Apostles

unit founded by

Clip Source: en.wikipedia.org

Michael Collins

Clip Source: en.wikipedia.org

to counter the British intelligence efforts during the Irish War of Independence, principally by means of assassination

Sinn Féin official policy was against acts of violence.
