If voters weren't frightened of a trigger-happy, impulsive McCain before, then they sure had better be now.

McCain's choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice President displays near-reckless judgment.

She's a small-town gal without credentials who will be one heartbeat away from the U.S. presidency. Just 20 months ago, according to her biography, she was mayor of a town of 8,000, in Alaska, then became Governor in 2006

Palin's candidacy fails to meet the most basic requirements for this job:

1. Vice Presidents must assume the reins should the President become ill or deceased

How dare McCain put someone into the biggest most important job in the world who is mere months out of running a tiny village in an isolated part of the country?

2. Vice Presidents also chair the Senate.

Successful ones are savvy and experienced operator at brokering deals and forging bipartisan coalitions

"I strongly believe that adding them [polar bears that is, not scientists] to the list is the wrong move at this time. My decision is based on a comprehensive review by state wildlife officials of scientific information from a broad range of climate, ice and polar bear experts."

But was Palin lying? Not technically. Look at what she wrote again. She only says her decision is "based on a comprehensive review of wildlife experts." She doesn't say it's based on agreeing with anything they said. That's you, jumping to conclusions.

The Feds -- who eventually did add the bears to the list -- based their decision on models that showed all of Alaska's polar bears dead by 2050. The ice they hunt and mate on is melting and they'll fall in the water and drown.

In other words, the Feds are right. The email is dated October 9, 2007. Palin's op ed, where she says they said the Feds were wrong, was published January 5th, 2008.

Watching Michael Phelps swim you quickly realize that he’s not like the others. He’s clearly in a league of his own.

Or more accurately, he’s swimming in a genetic pool of his own. Phelps has a number of fortuitous physical endowments that have enabled him to dominate like no other. Simply put, he is the perfect swimmer.

Here’s what Phelps has going for him:

Most people have a wingspan that matches their height. Not Phelps. He may be 6’4” tall, but his arms extend outward to a total of 6’7”.

The average shoe size for a person the size of Phelps is 12; he wears a size 14 which gives him a 10% advantage over the competition.

He also has a larger than average hand size which allows him to move more water.

Huge Marcus Aurelius statue uncovered in ancient Turkish city of Sagalassos

The head, right arm and lower legs of a huge statue of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius have been uncovered by archaeologists in the ancient city of Sagalassos in Turkey.

The 15-foot statue was originally located in the frigidarium, the coldest and largest room in the Roman baths at Sagalassos

Archaeologists now believe the frigidarium contained a gallery of large imperial statues running around its long walls, offering a treasure trove of antique images.

Crocodile eats man who sought its blessing

A CROCODILE killed and ate a 25-year-old man in Bangladesh after he waded into a pond next to a shrine hoping to be blessed by the animal, police say.

hundreds of people visit the shrine every day to offer hens and goats to the five crocodiles living in the pond. Part of the ritual involves bathing in the water.

"He went into the pond hoping to be blessed when a crocodile attacked him and dragged him into the deep part of the pond,''

"This is a very unusual incident. Normally, the crocodiles are very friendly and do not harm people.''

about 25 people dived into the pond following the attack yesterday, but could not find the man's body.
