Eight of the World’s Most Unusual Plants

Weird is relative. What seems weird to me might not seem weird to you. In the plant kingdom, however, there are definitely some species that most people would acknowledge are highly unusual. In the wack spirit of Halloween, some of my findings follow.

1. Rafflesia arnoldii

2. Hydnora africana

3. Dracunculus vulgaris

4. Amorphophallus

5. Wollemia nobilis

6. Welwitschia mirabilis

7. Drakaea glyptodon: an orchid. It is the color of, and smells like, raw meat. Pollinated by male wasps.

8. Wolffia angusta: the world’s smallest flower. A dozen plants would easily fit on the head of a pin and two plants in full bloom will fit inside a small printed letter “o.”

Radiohead 'Nude' Contest Generates More Than 2,200 Remixes

In the single month that Radiohead has been selling individual tracks for remixing its song "Nude" on through the iTunes store, no fewer than 2,239 remixes have been uploaded to the band's website. The contest ends today, so a few more mixes will likely trickle in and the current top ten (listen below) could change. Regardless, the project has already been a success as far as Radiohead is concerned.

ITunes selling the individual components of "Nude" as well as the full track made "Nude" Radiohead's first entry in the Billboard Hot 100 in twelve years. But the main thrust of the project was to engage fans, give them the raw materials Radiohead used to mix down the song, let everyone else hear the resulting remixes, and give the winning remixers a bit of exposure.

Have Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's chances of winning the Democratic presidential nomination improved as Senator Barack Obama has struggled through his toughest month of this campaign?

After weeks in which her candidacy was seen by many party leaders as a long shot at best, Clinton's advisers argued strenuously on Thursday that the answer was most assuredly yes, that the outlook was turning in her favor in a way that gave her a real chance.

Still, despite a series of trials that have put Obama on the defensive and illustrated the burdens he might carry in a fall campaign, the Obama campaign is rolling along, leaving Clinton with dwindling options.

Obama continues to pick up the support of superdelegates — elected Democrats and party leaders — at a quicker pace than Clinton.
