Did Obama Get Snubbed When He Visited Russia?

The video shows members of Russia’s Duma shaking hands with President Medvedev but refusing to take Obama’s often offered hand.

A couple of Americans that I showed the video to suggested that it must be faked, and I wish it was, but I doubt that it is.

I live in an area that is 80% made up of people from the former Soviet Union with most coming from Georgia and when I told people about the video last night and asked them what it meant, they looked at me in a somewhat surprised and half-disbelieving way, and said, “Of course they wouldn’t shake hands with him, he’s black”.

So the refusal to shake hands was because Obama is half black and not because of his politics which is very very sad.

During his visit to Russia, it was widely reported in Europe, but not in the States that Obama suggested to both Medvedev and Putin that they try to put a stop to corruption in Russia.

You Can’t Make Citizens Buy Health Insurance!

Consider for a moment, one component of the health plan known as the "individual mandate", which would require every American to have health insurance, either paid for by an employer, or at his or own expense.

The administration knows full well that the health plan could only work, or might possibly work, if the young are forced to subsidize the old, but a large number of young adults choose to go without coverage, and prefer to use their money for other things.

The Senate version of the individual mandate as it presently stands, would see those who don’t buy health insurance penalized, and a fine would be collected by the IRS, but this would be totally unconstitutional, and is a total non-starter.

Transparency Now Happens Behind Closed Doors

I’m not sure if Bush used to hold more or less closed door meetings than Obama, because it was never something that I ever wondered about, because I always assumed that most negotiations were worked out privately, before being made public.

Obama promised that he would post bills coming to him from Congress online for five days before signing them.

Has He Been Keeping His Promise?

At the time of writing, he has broken his promise forty-one times, and he signed two more bills into law last week within a day of receiving them:

"Once it is clear that a bill will be coming to the president’s desk, the White House will post the bill online",

and the comment was mostly seen as a White House effort to walk back from President Obama’s campaign pledge that he’d publicly post all submitted bills, for five days before signing them.

But I can’t find any of them at Whitehouse.gov and if you can, then please enlighten the world.

BMV Is Offering Big Discounts On Its Diesel Cars

Is It Time To Trade In Your Clunker For A BMV?

BMV (Bayerische Motoren Werke) which is now the world’s biggest luxury-car maker, is offering a $4,500 rebate on its two diesel models in the U.S. in order to attract customers who otherwise wouldn’t be able to qualify for the government’s fuel-economy clunkers trade-in program.

A diesel vehicle’s fuel mileage is as much as 33% better than that of gasoline powered by engines, and diesel drive autos account for more than one half on BMVs’ global sales.

U.S. sales of BMW’s 335d were just a meager 487 through the first half of this year, which is about 1% of the volume for the 3-Series line, and Dave Buchko, who is a spokesman for BMW said, “We wanted to emphasize the efficient nature of these vehicles and raise people’s awareness”.

Let’s Look At The Health Bill

Given what is already known about the health bill that Obama is forcefully trying to get approved, we can clearly state with a good deal of certainty what the effects of the bill’s passage would mean.

a) Taxes will have to be raised.

b) Federal spending will spiral out of control.

c) Unemployment will increase dramatically.

d) Wages will be reduced.

So it’s not surprising that a recent poll showed that 38% of Americans strongly oppose the bill, whilst only 22% strongly favor it, especially when you consider that nobody would benefit from any of the changes until at least 2013.

According to a July 13 CBS News poll;

a) The president’s approval rating now stands at 57%, which is down 11 points from April.

b) Approximately one half of Americans think the recession will last an additional two years, or more.

c) 52% think Obama is trying to accomplish too much.

d) 57% percent think the country is on the wrong track”

Will The Choice Be Sarah or Hilary In 2012?

Articles and comments about Hilary Clinton’s low profile, and lack of visibility are appearing more frequently in the media, and not without good reason.

Every other Secretary of State that I can think of was very high profile and travelled with their President on almost every overseas trip, but Obama is keeping Hilary almost cloistered, and if he does give her a job then it’s one that will damage her politically.

Before being appointed Secretary of State, Hilary was known to be very pro-Israel, but the only high profile job that she has so far been was given was to heavily criticize its settlement’s policy and demand that it stop building new ones and tear down existing ones.

Sarah Palin just took a big gamble and 71% of Republicans now say they would vote for her for president.

It’s hard to read an article about the present economic crisis without one pundit or another talking about when the U.S. will be fully recovered and they talk in depth about previous U and V shaped recessions, depressions and recoveries.

This recession is so deep however, that it’s not investors that will have to bring about some kind of recovery, but consumers, and right now they’re not playing ball.

Consumers account for around 70% of the U.S. economy and they’re the ones that took a real beating this time, and until they start spending you can forget about any serious kind of recovery.

So When Will Consumers Start Fueling The Recovery?

The question might be better phrased, “how will consumers start fueling the economy?”

Americans will replace worn out cars and appliances of course, but who will invest in factories and businesses that build those things?

U.S. District Court Ends Canadian Telemarketing Scam

Following a request by the Federal Trade Commission, a U.S. district court judge imposed a telemarketing ban on a Canadian operation that targeted U.S. consumers with false claims that it could reduce their credit card interest rates.

1) Effectively puts the defendants out of the telemarketing business.

2) Bars them from misrepresenting that they are affiliated with consumers’ credit card companies.

3) Bars them from claiming that they can get consumers’ credit card interest rates reduced.

4) Ordered the defendants to pay more than $7.8 million.

2) Violated the TSR by “spoofing” telephone numbers so that their calls appeared on consumers’ caller identification services as coming from another number.

3) Failed to provide the names of the defendants or their telemarketer on caller identification services.

Palin Is A Great Orator And A Fighter

Sarah Palin, who was a little known Alaska governor until she was chosen to be Senator John McCain’s running mate on the 2008 Republican presidential ticket, announced yesterday that she will be resigning her office at the end of this month.

It is widely assumed that she is stepping down in order to make a run for the Whitehouse in 2012, something which it would be impossible for her to do if she continued as Alaska’s governor.

Palin is an excellent orator that drew huge enthusiastic crowds wherever she spoke during the presidential campaign, and in his concession speech McCain thanked Palin and called her "one of the best campaigners I’ve ever seen, and an impressive new voice in our party for reform and the principles that have always been our greatest strength".
