In an evenhanded report on the air campaign against North Viet Nam, Defense Secretary Robert McNamara last week provided the Senate's Preparedness Subcommittee with a wealth of information that has never before been made public—and some sober conclusions unlikely to encourage either the hawks who would drastically escalate the bombing of the North, or the doves who would end the bombing entirely. Among the highlights:

Infiltration has indeed been made costly and difficult for the North Vietnamese. From January through July of this year, said the Defense Secretary, U.S. fighter-bombers averaged 13,000 sorties a month over the North —75% of them directed against lines of communication and goods moving over them. "In addition, we have struck approximately 1,900 fixed targets in North Viet Nam, including 57 bridges, 50 major railyards, troop barracks, petroleum storage tanks and power plants."

The dude's a foreigner who took it upon himself to act as mankind's savior when, generally, mankind shouldn't need him (note, of course, that a significant number of the catastrophes which assault Metropolis on a weekly basis are initiated with the intent of fighting Superman – if Supes wasn't around, a lot of the criminal bullshit wouldn't be, either).

FBI lied about the death of wanted man.

clipper's remarks: The story is in Spanish, but it relates how the statements about the death of Ojeda Rios, a Puerto Rican Nationalist activist, where a lie. The man was murdered by the FBI.

La investigación del Departamento de Justicia sobre la muerte de Filiberto Ojeda Ríos a manos de efectivos del Negociado Federal de Investigaciones (FBI), el 23 de septiembre de 2005, concluyó que fue falsa la versión que ofreció al Inspector General de Estados Unidos el agente federal que disparó el tiro letal .

Tras más de dos años de investigación, el secretario de Justicia, Roberto Sánchez Ramos, dio a conocer hoy el informe final de la pesquisa, la que dio por terminada.

“La versión del agente del FBI no es creíble”, dijo Sánchez Ramos en una conferencia de prensa en la que estuvo acompañado por fiscales e investigadores del Instituto de Ciencias Forense (ICF).

Hasta el nombre con el que se identificó el agente del FBI, “Bryan”, es falso.

Una de las versiones que dio este agente fue que él pudo ver a Ojeda Ríos con un arma desde el lugar donde estaba ubicado en los predios de la casa del líder de los Macheteros en Hormigueros.

Pero, eso es falso, según la pesquisa.
