Hurricane batters tourist islands Nicaragua

Hurricane Ida swept onto Nicaragua's Atlantic coast on Thursday, battering two islands popular with tourists.

Ida dumped as much as 20 inches of rain on the mainland. Corn Island and nearby Little Corn Island, two popular tourist destinations, were hit by gale-force winds, toppling tress and knocking out power.

Boats were also smashed, and 45 homes damaged. More than 3-thousand people were evacuated before the storm hit. No deaths or injuries have been reported.

What Are Lung Function Tests?

Lung function tests measure:

How much air you can take into your lungs. This amount is compared to that of other people your age, height, and sex. This allows your doctor to see whether you're in the normal range.
How much air you can blow out of your lungs and how fast you can do it.
How well your lungs deliver oxygen to your blood.
How strong your breathing muscles are.

The breathing tests most often used are:

Spirometry (spi-ROM-eh-tre). This test measures how much air you can breathe in and out. It also measures how fast you can blow air out.
Peak flow meter. This meter is a small, hand-held device that’s sometimes used by people who have asthma. The meter helps track their breathing.
Lung volume measurement. This test, in addition to spirometry, measures how much air you have left in your lungs after you breathe out completely.
Lung diffusing capacity. This test measures how well oxygen passes from your lungs to your bloodstream.

Images require alt text; don't always want captions

Images must always have alt text according to the HTML spec (it can be empty, but the alt="" attribute must be present). However, you don't always want a caption to the side of the image. It's possible to create the image, then delete the caption, but it can be maddening for users (especially non-power users) to have to keep doing that.

Satisfying the HTML spec is an implied legal requirement in the UK (and some organizations' funding depends on accessibility standards, and it's also good for users) so I feel it's important to add flexibility here.

Here's a patch to img_assist.module that adds some checkboxes (default=checked i.e. current behaviour) to the insert-image popup, which mean you can populate the alt attribute without getting a caption. Tested with TinyMCE, but I'm a bit at sea when it comes to e.g. the parent.updateCaption() function - it doesn't seem to be used?

The question of whether or not Former President Bush and Administration "allowed 9/11" to happen is pretty much irrelevant- the information that attacks were imminent was circulating within the government and it was not acted upon. Most people have probably forgotten that because Bush launched a war on Afganistan practically the same day the news came out.

Embattled Van Jones Quits, but 'Czar' Debates Rage On

Jones resigned over the Labor Day weekend as President Obama's special adviser for "green jobs, enterprise and innovation," after reports linked him to efforts several years ago suggesting a U.S. government role in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

In a Twitter posting late last week, Fox News commentator Glenn Beck urged his viewers to "find everything you can on Cass Sunstein, Mark Lloyd and Carol Browner."

The story begins with Beck, who called Obama a "racist" with a "deep-seated hatred for white people" during a "Fox & Friends" program on July 28. Seeking to back up his claim, Beck cited Jones as a "black nationalist who is also an avowed communist."

ColorOfChange.org, a group Jones helped launch in 2005, led an advertising boycott of Beck's show. Major advertisers, including Wal-Mart, Mercedes-Benz and HSBC moved their money elsewhere, but Beck's allies took to the Web.
