AIDS Awareness Programme

In this context, SAPID organised an awareness program on AIDS at Bolagarh block. One doctor, one ANM and one LHV, attended the program. They made people aware about the most hazardous disease. The volunteers of SAPID on HIV/AIDS also arranged a group discussion. The invited guests discussed about the mode of transmission and prevention of AIDS with the participants. A large number of villegers participated in the program. The program was quite successful and the participants showed interest.

Health Programs

Since the establishment of the organisation it has become a regular feature to conduct Eye camps, Health Check-up Camps and meeting on AIDS prevention, Population Stabilisation and Reproductive Child Health care in outreach rural villages of Keonjhar district. Local doctors, paramedical staff and district health department have been extending all cooperation in this respect. Reproductive Child Health (RCH) care program was undertaken in Bangorekote Gram Panchyat of Dangadi block in jajpur district under ASRA (MNGO) on getting financial assistance from Ministry of family Welfare, Government of India during the year 2002-2003.

Community Health Services

Cataract Operation:

The organization focused on the Cataract affected people of the area in 2007- 2008. During this fiscal year a total of 46 patients have been operated for their Cataract and got clear vision. This programme was totally collaborated with the Nandapur Community Health Center (CHC). We also sent 35 patients for different cases to the Mega Health Camp organised by the District Head Quarter Hospital, Koraput.

Pulse Polio:

At regular intervals, our organization cooperates with the National Pulse Polio Programme. Two staff members have been deployed to assist the Nandapur CHC-staff for the remote pockets to provide pulse polio to the unreached children of the community.

“SEWA” considered income generation as the important tools for making people self sufficient.Hence fish farming activities were undertaken through out our operational area to cater the needs of our financial requirements for conducting diff. progarmmes community ponds as well as private ponds were taken on lease for fish farming and there were good sale proceedings.

The people in our operational area do not have any health facilities. They mostly depend on village quacks who often exploit them,so the organization has taken several steps to help them ie; the health education programmes on malaria and for mother and child care.

Area of Operation

SWARA has taken many steps to help them without any assistance from Government or any other agency. We have started:

Health Education Programmes for mother and child care in 26 SHG's (Self Help Groups).

Health Education Programme on Malaria and its control and prevention at 2 G.P. Of Khandapada Block. Several young people participate in this education camp.

The people in our operational area do not have any health facilities. They mostly depend on village quacks who often exploit them. People in this area regularly suffer from malaria. The mortality rate due to brain malaria in infant and postpartum mothers is very high. Unfortunately, due to ignorance and illiteracy most of the people follow traditional preventive and curative methods, that do not work well.

Projects Implemented

Even since its establishment, WIHRET has been taking up several developmental projects for the benefit of the poor and needy. It has been promoting development through participatory action and appropriate intervention in the rural areas of Baliapal & SORO Blocks, of Balasore district. The various programmes implemented are :

Solidarity, Empowerment & Leadership ventures programme for the backward rural women in 100 SHGs of Baliapal block.

Adult Women Literacy Programme for women in the SHGs level for the illiterate women.

Provision for vocational education : tailoring institute for ladies in the 5 GPs of Baliapal block, Balasore. Vocational courses of short duration (1-6 months) mainly for ladies in the trades of tailoring, embroidery, coir, mushroom cultivation.

ABCD is a developmental organization working for downtrodden rural women who are socially neglected, economically exploited and culturally deprived. ABCD has grown gradually into a massive movement that works for and uplifts rural people with special attention to the rural women. Women are considered an inseparable part of the development process and they have contributed to the development of the family and community. But they normally do not get recognized in the social structure, and so are debarred from growth and change.

Keeping this concept in mind, ABCD tries to organize the rural people and women in order to involve them in the process of development. This ensures that the problems related to their socio-economic and cultural life can slowly be reduced and they form a society where every person can be self sustained and self supportive.
