I met one such dog two days after my beloved Gonzo died in my arms. Still grieving for my dog, I happened upon a starving, sick shepherd mix in the middle of the road. I had seen him several times and knew that he didn’t have a home. I could tell he had been hit at least once recently as his neck was covered with dried blood. He had fear in his eyes and his body was tired and full of pain. He would just lay in the middle of the road when a car would come, looking like he hoped to be run over for the final time.

I called my husband who helped me get him in the truck and rushed him to my vet, who confirmed my worst fears…he was too far gone to save. I was so heartbroken, I wrote a poem for him to express my sadness. This poem is dedicated to that poor dog and to every dog that has been discarded or abandoned.

Tags: animal rescue, animal shelters, dog, dog rescue, dogs, strays

<clipSource>http://www.thepoochplace.com/dog-health/in-memory-of-a-stray</clipSource>

BACKYARD BREEDERS

clipped by: poodlepub
clipper's remarks: Attention dog owners!

Clip Source: www.thepoochplace.com

BACKYARD BREEDERS

Do you know what a backyard breeder is? A backyard breeder is anyone who purposely breeds or allows their pet to breed and produce litters of puppies to sell for profit. Ask any animal rescue organization and they will tell you that backyard breeders are one of the largest, if not the largest group of irresponsible, careless people contributing to the overwhelming number of abandoned, homeless, neglected, abused and unwanted pets.

Tags: backyard breeder, backyard breeders, breeding dogs, buying dogs, dog breeder, dog breeding, puppy mill, puppy mills

<clipSource>http://www.thepoochplace.com/dog-info/backyard-breeders</clipSource>

GIVE A DOG A BED: Dog Bed Factsuff

clipped by: poodlepub
clipper's remarks: Why does my dog need his own “doggie bed”?

Clip Source: www.thepoochplace.com

GIVE A DOG A BED: Dog Bed Facts

Why does my dog need his own “doggie bed”?

The average adult dog will sleep 14 – 16 hours a day. If you slept that much, wouldn’t you want to do it in comfort? Having a washable dog bed of his own gives your dog his own space where he can feel secure. A dog bed can also save your furniture and help you get a good night sleep by allowing you to have your bed back! Many older or arthritic dogs need a cushiony, firm, supportive bed to relieve pressure on their aching joints. All in all, having his own dog bed will improve the quality of life for your dog. (Of course, he may still enjoy an occasional nap with his person on their bed or couch….)

Tags: dog food recipes, dog food recipe, homemade dog food, homemade dog food recipe, wellness dog food, dog beds

<clipSource>http://www.thepoochplace.com/dog-info/dog-bed-fact</clipSource>

Dog Food and Treats to Avoid for the Health of Your Dog

clipped by: poodlepub
clipper's remarks: Here are helpful tips for dog lovers. Dog food and treats that you should avoid for a healthier fluffy and furry buddy.

Clip Source: www.thepoochplace.com

We have all seen those commercials with the adorable dogs begging and drooling for those dog treats that look and smell like people food, promising to offer even better dog food nutrition. You love your dog and you want to be able to give them a special treat every now and then, after all… how can you resist that lovely little head tilt, and those pleading eyes and possible even a cute little “come on… don’cha love me” whimper.

Naturally this makes you want to cave and give the lovable little pup the treat he deserves. If you aren’t giving him a homemade dog treat then you could be doing more harm then good. The better thing to do is to pet him in the head and tell him how you love him before you reach for one of those doggie treats.

Dog Food and Treats to Avoid for the Health of Your Dog

Tags: organic dog food, healthy dog food, homemade dog food, homemade dog food recipe, homemade dog food recipes, home made dog food

<clipSource>http://www.thepoochplace.com/dog-health/dog-food-and-treats-to-avoid-for-the-health-of-your-dog</clipSource>

The Pooch Place: Pet Food Safety

clipped by: poodlepub
clipper's remarks: Very informative. Tackles the truth about pet food recalls that most dog owners are very concerned about.

Clip Source: www.thepoochplace.com

The Truth About Dog Food

"The Food Your Feeding Your Dog May Actually Be Killing Him"

Thats a shame isn’t it, that the commercial dog food you’re feeding yor dog may actually be poison. Most of the pets foods claim to have all the nutrients your dog will ever need. The reality is most do not. Add to the fact that most are filled with "meat by-products", you know, the non-rendered, other than meat, derived from slaughtered mammals. It includes, but is not limited to, lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, livers, blood, bone, partially defatted low temperature fatty tissue, and stomachs and intestines freed of their contents. Here is what that don’t tell you "it might also contain parts from sick or dying animals".

Tags: organic dog food, dog food allergies, dog food nutrition, homemade dog food recipes, home made dog food

<clipSource>http://www.thepoochplace.com/</clipSource>
