Today, the White House released a statement criticizing Congress’s potential plan to limit CEO compensation at the companies the federal government is bailing out, firmly standing against any “punitive measures”:

We certainly understand and are sympathetic to the sentiment regarding the pay of CEOs and senior management of these firms, but we have to focus on the problem, and the problem is that we need these firms to participate in the program and sell us this debt. Having punitive measures would provide a disincentive for firms to participate, and that would make the program much less likely to succeed.

In 2007, Wall Street’s five biggest firms — Bear Stearns, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, and Morgan Stanley — paid a record $39 billion in bonuses to themselves.

I thought, he's not just another crackpot trying to sell a crackpot book, he is serious. Bush lied us into an illegal war and thus far, nothing, but words has happened to him and his crew. Is this reality? A reality that allows Bush to go scot-free for so many crimes. With no one not one group to point a finger and demand he pay for his misdeeds. Without a doubt, Bush, appears to be one who IS above the law. Not only is he above the law, he gets help to get away with his transgression. (namely: the FISA vote).... We are, most of us anyway, holding our breaths to see this sad excuse for a man leave the highest office, once and for all. But is that enough? The War on Terror is failing. The U.S. citizens are losing. From the Patriot Act to mother's having to drink their own breast milk in order to board planes, the so-called "War" has been a miserable defeat to the citizens of the United States.

We are living in a reactionary period and the U.S. government has invoked and provoked more fear into the hearts of their citizens more so than any act of terror from foreign hostiles have. Humans have this wonderful capacity to forgive and forget but since that seems to be apathetic to the plight of those who have lost loved ones due to foreign enemies let's try a rephrase: Time is a magic pill.

Running from looks exactly the same as running toward but in the difference, there is a world. "I don't know where I'm going but I need to get away." versus "I am running toward something I want." Fear versus Freedom. The government is counting on your fear-based beliefs to not know the difference.

10,000 hopefuls keep eyes open for Wal-Mart job

For the fourth consecutive day, people waited in long lines Thursday for a shot at a job at a new Wal-Mart in DeKalb County, pushing the total number of applicants beyond 10,000.

Beginning Monday, after virtually no advertising or any signs, the throngs of hopeful applicants continued to pour into a church converted into a job processing center — all vying for only 350 to 400 available jobs, according to Wal-Mart officials.

The job-seeking frenzy may be a peek into a larger economic picture. A report from the U.S. Labor Department last week indicated a surprising plunge in job creation by private employers in November, with new jobs far below the level needed to keep pace with population growth.

Shantica Riley (right) of College Park and Cleo Moore of Decatur are among the more than 10,000 people who have applied so far for 350 to 400 jobs at the Wal-Mart near Avondale Estates.

Pentagon Reverses Position and Admits U.S. Troops Used White Phosphorous Against Iraqis in Fallujah

The U.S. government has now admitted its troops used white phosphorous as an incendiary weapon against Iraqis during the assault on Fallujah a year ago.

Chemical weapons experts say such attacks are in violation of international law banning the use of chemical weapons.

White phosphorous is often compared to napalm because it combusts spontaneously when exposed to oxygen and can burn right through skin to the bone.

Peter Kaiser, of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, said, "Chemicals used against humans or animals that cause harm or death through the toxic properties of the chemical are considered chemical weapons."

Doberman saves toddler from deadly snake bite

A Doberman has saved a toddler from a deadly snake bite in what has been described as an unbelievable act.

Khan, a Doberman new to the Svillicic's Atheron home just four days after rescuing it from an animal shelter, was alerted to the danger and miraculously flung the little girl from the snake's reach, and earned a poisonous bite on the leg for its troubles.

"Khan was really concentrating and was acting aggressive towards Charlotte and kept trying to nudge her but it wasn't working, so he grabbed her by the back of the nappy and threw her more than a metre.

Khan received a shot of anti-venom from a local vet and apart from being very sick of the night of the attack, will make a full recovery.

A federal appeals court sharply rejected the Bush administration's new pollution standards for most sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks and vans and ordered regulators Thursday to draft a new plan that's tougher on auto emissions.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration failed to address why the so-called light trucks are allowed to pollute more than passenger cars and didn't properly assess greenhouse gas emissions when it set new minimum miles-per-gallon requirements for models in 2008 to 2011.

The court also said the administration failed to include in the new rules

heavier trucks driven as commuter vehicles

California and 10 other states, two cities and four environmental groups sued the administration after it announced the new fuel economy standards last year.

"It's a stunning rebuke to the Bush administration and its failed energy policy," California Attorney General Jerry Brown said.

Utopian fantasies have long transfixed the human race. Yet today a much rarer fantasy has become popular in the United States. Millions of Americans, the richest people in history, have a death wish. They are the new "Armageddonites," fundamentalist evangelicals who have moved from forecasting Armageddon to actually trying to bring it about.

These end-timers have great influence over the U.S. government's foreign policy. They are thick with the Republican leadership.

American fundamentalists strongly supported the decision to invade Iraq in 2003. They consistently support Israel's hard-line policies. And they are beating the drums for war against Iran. Thanks to these end-timers, American foreign policy has turned much of the world against us, including most Muslims, nearly a quarter of the human race.
