It started with my Pavlovian fetish for yellow trucks. And I would gladly explain. This last winter, a yellow (very DHL delivery looking) truck showed up in my street. A very nice smiling guy (and not the creepy type) was selling GREAT Belgium waffles out of his small delivery window for $5! Ever since then whenever i see a DHL truck in the horizon i start drooling for Belgium waffles.

True, Mud Coffee are a staple in Astor Place for years. They were one of the first to introduce gourmet coffee to the ones in a hurry. But it seems like the combination of low in cash + no time to breath is taking good food to the streets.

recently viewed: Organic Ice Cream sold out of a refurbished postal truck in the SoHo and the UWS, and the amazing dessert truck in University place (former Le Cirque pastry chef).

Okay, so we all already know this fall is all about statement pieces. Whether it be from sculptural shoes to other accessories...But the "it" thing...or shall I say the must have of the season has got to be big bold necklaces. As we've seen big and flashy is it! You've probably read other articles about this, but I won't stop mentioning it because it's oh-so true!

Now, I don't know if you have gotten the chance to check out Lanvin's Fall 2008 Collection on www.style.com or where ever it may be, but I have seen it, and I am absolutely in love! Which is exactly why I urge you to check it out asap!!! The necklaces are so gorgeous and decadent that they are to die for! After all, why wouldn't they be? Why is this trend picking up so rapidly?

According to the WWD headlines this morning, the retail industry is about to collapse under the tough recession times (and who know's if it's the lowest point?). None of these look promising:

But one headline caught my attention striking with contrast to others:

Estee Lauder Profits Up 35.7 Percent

Is it safe to assume that a broke consumer turns to beauty products when has no money to spend on the latest pricey accessories?

Maybe recession times are good to discover our own beauty and not relay on the latest Prada bag to feel good.

BEIJING (Reuters) - At least eight American blogger-activists and several other foreigners have been detained in Beijing as the government intensifies a crackdown on pro-Tibetan protests in the home stretch of the Olympics, rights groups said on Wednesday.

Students for a Free Tibet earlier said authorities detained five self-styled "citizen journalists" who were in Beijing to promote Tibetan freedom on Tuesday. The New York-based group said activist-artist James Powderly had also been nabbed.

Later on Wednesday, the group said four more protesters, including two Americans and a British national, were also detained after unfurling a Tibetan flag outside the National Stadium, or "Bird's Nest."

The Beijing Olympics have not been dogged by the widespread demonstrations that authorities had feared. Several protesters advocating for Tibet independence have nonetheless managed to breach tight security, in one case hanging a "Free Tibet" banner outside the headquarters of the state broadcaster.

Reporters have tracked down Barack Obama's youngest half-brother, George Hussein Onyango Obama, living in Kenya, where he spoke of his life which is a stark contrast to his well-known older brother.

According to The Telegraph, George Hussein Onyango Obama has only met Barack Obama, his older brother, twice in his life, once when he was five years old and again in 2006 when Obama toured East Africa and visited Nairobi.

Obama speaks of his brother in his autobiography, saying he was a "beautiful boy with a rounded head".

George Obama was found by Italy's Vanity Fair in a home which is described as a "two metre by three metre shack," that has football posters, a calendar of exotic beaches of the world and a front page newspaper picture of Barack Obama.

when he asked about his name, Obama, he denies that he is related to Barack Obama, stating "I say we are not related. I am ashamed."

Gwyneth Paltrow is starring in the Tod's fall 2008 campaign, but the newly released advertisements have caused an outrage amongst animal rights activists. The actress modeled the Italian company's fall 2008 collection, draped in fox fur, wearing fur-lined boots, and sporting leather, ostrich and snakeskin accessories.

Ironically, Gwyneth Paltrow is known for being one of the more eco-friendly celebrities and her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, is a prominent celebrity vegetarian. Even more so, Gwyneth has infuriated her personal friend, designer Stella McCartney, who does not use any animal products in her gorgeous designs.

But husband and designer-friend aside, she has really enraged animal rights advocacy groups, such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Respect for Animals, causing them to lash out. PETA even went as far as to criticize her parenting skills: "Gwyneth Paltrow won't be the apple of her daughter's eye if she continues to flaunt fur...

While all three brothers usually wear suits, each one adds his own touch to make the outfit their own. Kevin, the oldest brother, often pairs a scarf with his suits; middle brother Joe occasionally wears a sports shirt with his suits and youngest brother Nick styles his suits with a bow. People seem to love their fashion style as the brothers are often met with screaming fans where ever they go.

Word has it, that the brothers plan to dress up the industry even more and launch their own clothing line. No details about the line have been released, but if it emulates their personal style, it's sure to be a hit!

Jonas Brothers mania is on the horizon and I think it's here to stay. You've officially been forewarned.

She also recently announced that she has had a double mastectomy. Cancer was found in one breast, and she decided to be cautious and remove them both. To top it off, she's making jokes about it. "I’m going to have cute boobs 'til I'm 90, so there’s that…I'll have the best boobs in the nursing home. I’ll be the envy of all the ladies around the bridge table." (This refers to the reconstructive surgery she's going to have.)

Disabled turtle gets skateboard & finds love

Officials at the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo say the 10-year-old spurred tortoise has begun mating since being fitted with a custom skateboard to overcome paralysis of her hind legs.

The 55-pound turtle is unable to move herself forward with her front legs alone. So the zoo's staff built her a metal board with two wheels that can be strapped to her stomach.

Arava arrived in Jerusalem a few months ago from a petting zoo in southern Israel with the unexplained handicap, and found no reptile romance.

Zoo curator Shmulik Yedvad says it's not that Arava has come out of her shell with her unique new wheelchair, but that a particularly amorous 10-year-old male has been after her.

Ellen looked dapper-soft butch in white, while Portia was incredibly dreamy in a Zac Posen halter dress with a pink skirt.

n mid August, I can already smell the fall in NYC's air. Maybe it's because the newest fall fashions already capturing me from their Fifth Avenue windows.

There are some important decisions to be made this fall, including boots (and booties), hats (must haves!) and of course jackets. Here the choice is endless, so to make it easier for all I came up with my favorite picks, while trying to keep it diverse both in shapes and most importantly - budgets.

The first concept that comes to our minds when we hear the word “autumn” is that the trees are changing from gorgeous bright greens to an array of reds, oranges, and browns. But, this doesn’t mean that the clothes we wear should change to the same color scheme of autumn trees.

Ironically, the “It” color for the fall season is pink. Instead of every woman looking like a fall tree’s twin, every woman can stand out like a nightclub sign in a bit of pink. However, no one should ever wear pink head to toe.

Can you imagine a girl wearing pink stockings, a pink dress, a pink hat, and pink oxford shoes? Seriously, no one wants to look like a pink poodle.

This fall, fashion seems to be spouting out some farmer’s daughter chic. Yes, looking like a country superstar is so in! This doesn’t mean it’s time for all us to stock up on cowboy boots, but it’s time to embrace plaids, tweed and rustic colors.
